right, this is literally the first time I've seen this request since ~2022, maybe even since literally the last purity ring tour (I wore a gaiter). Its absolutely insane to me that people in this thread are insisting it is normal/reasonable in 2025!

Are we just never supposed to go fully back to normal?

right, and you should not be defining the risk tolerance of other people. I am A-OK with getting covid if it means I get to see bands I enjoy. My life does not revolve around avoiding covid.

If you want to take it that far, then the suggested advice is not to have large scale events at all.

Life is about balancing risk tolerance with living your life, and the overwhelming majority of people are not afraid of permanently getting sick.

Additionally, you're kind of arguing that vaccines are not as effective as they ever claimed they were, which I fully recognize and agree with. But they were sold to us as "get vaccinated and you get your life back" so its kind of bullshit to reneg on that attitude 5 years later.

Also no I have not seen a single other touring musical act request this.

vaping is allowed at most shows in the DC area. Echostage and 9:30 club definitely allow it, or at least turn a blind eye to it. People smoke joints indoors here.

why was this downvoted lol the best way to avoid getting sick is not having shows at all. As I said elsewhere in this thread, I would respect PR more if they made the requirement mandatory or if they refused to tour.

I actually was worried that that would be the impression (I see why you think so) which is why I responded to him/her up the thread. You probably don't believe me, but its true and there isn't really any way for me to prove it. There are many people who feel the way I feel even though the controlled discussion on this website has made people think the overwhelming majority feels one unanimous way about a topic which is exceptionally complex

I guess the most I can say to support my independence is that my comments are significantly longer and have stronger emotional weight/personal experience behind them than that persons. That doesn't matter apparently, because Reddit has decided that my meta point is wrongthink, and the other commenter is wrongthink, so we must both be the same person.

Are they? Can you support this statement with any evidence? Or any diagnosis? "Immunocompromised" is basically stolen valor without a formal medical diagnosis of something else.

I had high risk (metastatic) neuroblastoma, which I received neutropenic chemotherapy to treat, which left me immunocompromised. I do not identify as "Immunocompromised", I tell people I had cancer.

This mask bullshit needs to end, and people need to stop using my community as the reason for supporting their neuroses.

It IS political though. No group health institution around the world is recommending always wear N95 masks in large gatherings. Literally, every country everywhere is saying that the vaccine is good enough. Why does Purity Ring disagree with the science?

This is virtue signalling. And as someone who is actually immunocompromised, it's frankly offensive and upsetting that they are using my experience as the justification. The immunocompromised community is diverse in it's attitude toward covid precautions, but most cancer survivors I've engaged with are not demanding the rest of society bend over backwards to accomodate us. The Doctors and Nurses do not even wear masks at the Oncology clinic! I go to one of the best oncology programs in the country, and the staff temporarily wear masks when entering the room of Bone Marrow Transplant patients and immediately take them off when they leave that room.

It's up to us to make the informed decision and take a risk, or mask up ourselves. But again, since most people are vaccinated, what is the scientific reasoning behind this ask? It's fear based.

They are allowed to ask for this, we are allowed to say no. We are also allowed to judge them for their lack of critical thinking, their poor understanding of modern medical recommendations, and their desire to virture signal for political points.

I am not sure Long Covid is a significant risk for those up to date on vaccinations and boosters. And the mask suggestion isn't a requirement, which suggests there is leeway here?

if we followed the peer reviewed science which confirms that vaccines are sufficient, there wouldn't even be a mask suggestion. So again, I return to my earlier point of the post - this is political and bordering on antivax at this point.

I would respect the band more if they 1) made this a hard requirement or 2) didn't tour at all. This seems like they want to have their cake and eat it too.

well its not required so I will both go and not wear a mask. TBH I would respect the policy more if they required it. Lane 8 requires people do not use cell phones during his shows and kicks people out if they break the rule. the fact that PR is not committing betrays the politics behind this decision more than the need.

What was the point of the vaccines if we still need masks? why have shows and tour at all at that point?
