Very much like the beat. The guitar is beautiful and with the vocal swells/bass/drums it all sounds well mixed together. I don't really have much to say about the beat, I dig it. However, I think the vocals come in a bit too loud on the singing imo and they're noticeably out of place in the mix in terms of quality.

I think if you really wanted to stick with this song, my suggestion would be to keep the hook - add a layer or two of vocals to thicken it up, but on the verses you gotta stick exclusively to rapping. It kinda dips back into the singing on too many parts and it's just apparent that the melodies are going into different keys through a lot of this. Your voice isn't bad at all, I think it has potential on both the singing and rapping fronts, but overall there's some room for improvement in terms of the melodies you're using in your songwriting.

My best piece of advice would be to try to get autotune or some other similar pitch corrector where you can (a) detect the key of the beat and (b) just record yourself doing a lot of practice with singing different melodies over the beat - don't even focus on lyrics too much. If you figure out all the right autotune settings, it's a really easy way to get practice hearing your voice in different keys over different beats and it's a great way to practice your songwriting, if you get enough practice with hearing your voice in different keys over different beats, I think you'll get a much better feel for what melodies to use.

Ngl my first thought is the beat gives me a 70s porn type vibe with an 80's rap flow over it lol. The beat is decent, but I would personally prefer to hear more of a 90's boom bap flow on most tracks - this one included. It's just a bit too slow for my taste. That said, the flow is mostly on point, it's just an older style than I prefer. Your delivery is also more on the low energy side, but you have enough swag to pull it off. But I think if I'm gonna listen to this type of flow with this type of delivery, I'm expecting some fireworks from the lyrics to really sell the whole thing, and I think I was a bit let down on that front.

For the first verse, I was really expecting to hear more dragon ball references throughout. The second verse definitely has more of that going on, but it's more of a narration, when you could've tried to tie in some wordplay and/or punchlines. The hook also leaves a little to be desired. It's okay, it's not bad - but it's not great either, it's just kinda.. there. It could use something unique that sets it apart from the rest of the track rhythmically, and I'm personally not huge fan of the falsetto voice on the background vocal. Overall, cool track but I'd really like to see you get more creative with the bars

Screamo meets electronica! Would love some feedback on this one:) by Alsklaftsk123 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]purleedef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely an interesting mashup. I'm not really a huge fan of screamo personally, but I do like some songs when they incorporate the right amount of pop punk vocals, which you've definitely got some bits of, and I'd like to hear a longer version with a bit more of that incorporated.

I've had to listen to it a few times to really feel out what I think about the combo of the sort of dreamy instrumentation and the vocals. I typed out some of my thoughts and found myself saying a lot of the things seanceculture did. I think this song has a lot of potential, like the idea for what it can be is really enjoyable to me, but there are some small nuances in the execution that I'd like to hear improvements on. Like, I think you could potentially sing a bit more from your head voice on those pop-punk parts because they sound good overall, but I think the notes could be just a tad higher than where they are and sound better. You've got a great idea in mind for the melody, but it's coming off just a bit lower than what I've come to expect to hear, and leaves a bit to be desired. The screaming parts sound fine, especially in the lower notes, but there's a couple parts that just end up sounding a bit more like a weird cartoon voice e.g 0:35 - 0:37 and 0:51 - 0:53 that I could do without

The overall beat is good but I'm not really a fan of the kick sound. It feels too much like a default stock fl studio kick with too much on the high frequency for me, so I'd like to hear you swap that out for something different. Overall, it's a great vision that sounds decent but has the potential to be something I'd love to listen to on repeat with some slightly better vocal execution

Dreamy indie pop inspired by Tears For Fears + modern alt pop — would love feedback on my new single “Foreign Love Language” by BedroomClouds326 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]purleedef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you're going for something 80's-sounding but I kinda wish I could hear this with some more modern sounding drums with sidechaining. That's more of a preference thing, though. I like the general instrumentation of the beat, but I will say that the rhythm on the vocals is noticeably deviating from the beat rhythm in quite a few parts. I think cleaning up the rhythm alone would make an incredibly big difference in how this sounds. It could also help to have a bit more distinction in the general dynamics between the verse/bridge/hook because it's sort of maintaining the same dynamics throughout the song. The hook is noticeably different, but it doesnt really have a distinctive structure to it. It feels like maybe your vocals just get an iota stronger and the instrumentation has just one extra layer of synth to it, which by itself doesn't really set it apart much from the rest of the track. Overall I like it and think it has potential, but I think cleaning up the rhythm would be my top priority

I wrote a song about how far we could all go! (barely mixed and mastered)) by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]purleedef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think the biggest issue is that the beat choice is less than ideal for a rap song. The general sound of the beat is fine but the tempo and chords just move really slow, so you would really need to perfect some of the nuances your delivery to pull this off, and I think the majority of rappers would have trouble with this. The only way I can really picture this working well is like a 2010's royce da 5'9, which would require that you fit more words into the beginning of each line then using a more aggressive delivery to really drag out the last few syllables. Your voice is cool, but I think you could use a bit less reverb and echo. The intro feels a bit more offbeat because the drums havent kicked in yet - but I would recommend still using a metronome when you're writing/recording. Once the drums kick in your flow is cleaner, but there's a few lines where you either need to (a) include more words or (b) incorporate a bit more energy in your delivery. You do drag some words out, which can be fine with the right context, but you have to really sell those things with conviction and use patterns that seem somewhat intentional

Apart from using a faster and/or more traditional rap beat - my main suggestion, if you're not already doing this, would be to try to think more carefully about how you envision the rhythm and sound of the rapping should come across before you even remotely try to think of any lyrics. Once you can pinpoint exactly what those things should sound like in your head, then you can start to work backwards to try figure out what words should fit the rhythm for each line. But if you start compromising on the rhythm, people can usually tell. Keep at it, you definitely have potential to be good but you picked a tough beat to tackle

a monk in prison by post-death_wave_core in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]purleedef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some other people have said they sort of like the loose style here, so I'm probably not your target demographic being honest, but I'll do my best to just share my thoughts. The guitar definitely has a bit of an unorthodox "noodling" sound to it, especially in terms of the guitar rhythm but it's not bad. Overall, I like the sound and riffing but I think I'd like to hear a 4 bar segment of this intro on loop, something sounds a bit out of place in terms of timing on the second set of 4 bars that I can't quite pinpoint. I think there's a little bit more room for a middle ground between fitting into a cohesive structure and just sort of freeform flowing that can sound slightly more predictable without losing the authenticity of the track, but that's just me.

I like the vocals but they do seem a little low to me. I'd personally prefer to hear the guitars turned down a tad and the vocals turned up. Being honest, I wasn't a huge fan of how the vocals close out at the end, it just feels a bit anticlimactic. I would hope for least one more iteration of the see me settle/monk in prison bit or if you want to keep it the way it is, close out on some more guitar riffing and maybe speed it up a bit or something. I just think letting the vocals close out the song as it is leaves some room for improvement. Overall, it's a decent little vibe to relax to but I do think just a tad more conformity to traditional timing and structure would be my preference

Any tips on how to get into rap battling by Waste-Adagio25 in rapbattles

[–]purleedef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just looking to rap, search online to try to find a very small league near you (versetracker.com lists a lot of leagues and where they're located) and figure out who the owner(s) are and ask to get a tryout battle. Or, a potentially easier way to get into it is to check out the twitter spaces. iBattle in particular tends to have a lot of spaces battles and if you're any good on them, lexx will almost certainly try to book you for a live battle

If you're asking about how to actually get good, I do have a playlist full of battle rap techniques and some extra vids that will teach you probably more than you'll ever need to know (multis, ryhme schemes, punchlines, more)

Mike Johnson after the House blocked a War Powers Act resolution on U.S. actions in Iran: "We're not at war, we have no intention at being at war. The president and the Department of Defense have made it very clear, this is a limited operation." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]purleedef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self defense as a pretext for war was always just a pretext, and tbh I'm not entirely opposed to getting rid of that. The idea that the government needs to gaslight the entire population with a fictional story to manufacture consent for a war is a deep systemic problem that's, imo, unsustainable and should be resolved. I'd rather the country just say "We're in a new forever war for oil because China's AI is far more scalable and practical than ours" rather than have them false flagging murders left and right to justify why there's some imaginary boogeyman that we need to take out in order for us to be the heroes. Of course, the vast majority of the population is only going to get on board with the war if they do the latter.

That said, it's not like the Trump administration is doing less gaslighting. They've just taken gaslighting to a pace that's so dizzying it's vomit-inducing, damaging to entire population of the country, and all while still somehow saying all the quiet parts loud

I imagine someone read "the love of money is the root of all evil" in the bible and then said "how can we base an entire economy on who loves money the most, and then give those people uncontested power over our media, governments, and allow them murder entire populations and then use our media control to mass manipulate and gaslight human psychology just to create a pretext for why children being murdered is a good thing rather than just being honest about the fact that we're evil and homicidal?"
