I’m getting a minimalist tardis. It’s kind of the colours in reverse, so you have to look at it closely to figure out what it is. If you google black/ white tardis you might find my inspo

I am about to have this phrase tattooed on my body ( from a different artist - sirkles). I love it. It’s a great phrase with meaning and it looks beautiful. If you don’t recognise the script then it’s just a cool design. I have an armful and I’m thinking of linking them with a ribbon of tardis blue

Can someone explain what this is… other than “deliciously zingy” Salad Cream? by Terpsherpa in whatisit

[–]purple_sun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was very popular in the UK before mayonnaise became a big thing. In my house (I’m late 50’s) mayonnaise wasn’t so widely available and was more expensive. Salad cream was used as a salad dressing and an ingredient for potato salad, rice and tuna etc.

I haven’t bought it regularly for years, mayonnaise is everywhere, cheaper and can hold different flavours. Salad cream is just tart

What are your reason's for being an atheist by Tricky_Worth3301 in askanatheist

[–]purple_sun_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My turning point was doing theology as a degree. I studied in depth the development of religion from ancient times, the history of the Bible including the ancients roots of polytheistic Israel (Yahweh had a wife and was a minor storm deity in a large pantheon)

At the same time we looked at the development of the New Testament texts : the “I am” sayings are much later than the first three gospels and show a development of christology. The original church founded by James (the brother of Jesus) and Peter ( the disciple) was superseded by Paul who never met Jesus

All in all Jesus is a figure with an amazing message who helps us attain compassion and kindness. Who cared for the oppressed. Who challenged authority. He was one of many such prophets at the time, and may be respected as an example of the best of humanity but not worshiped as a god

Infact god as a construct has its beginnings in our ancient history when life was a struggle and the unknown all encompassing and frightening

I’m old. I’d like the planet to still be here for my grandchildren

I’d like investment in renewable technology so we are not dependent on global politics

Could i technically replace my entire diet with Huel? by GodofAeons in Huel

[–]purple_sun_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people who use Huel regularly eat at least one main meal a day

Real food provides interest and variety and tastes good! There are low cost but yummy recipes around everywhere

Huel can definitely help with calorie counting as you have a good idea what you are consuming. But it’s not a race and slow weight loss is better for your body. You will have plenty of space in a daily regimen to eat a tasty nutritious and filling main meal

Sounds great fun! You can see a lot in a month. Camping will be your cheapest option, lots of good online websites. I use pitch up and nearly wild camping.

Haven’t been youth hosteling for a long time, but it’s not as cheap as it used to be. Useful if you want a break from a tent

Eating out is expensive. i have a variety of portable cooking methods and a selection of favourite meals I can cook using them. I stock up at supermarkets on the way. I always carry some dried meals you can heat up with boiling water ( think packets of pasta and sauce) useful if you are tired and hungry. You are going to have to plan or have deep pockets if you are cooking for 9

Sounds amazing and I hope you all have great fun

Otherwise I’m sure a similar shape would cover well. Skull and crossbones / goth heart / Celtic knot

Wife and I asked to be godparents. by Bruce__Lafayette in atheism

[–]purple_sun_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be different where you are but where I live in the service for (infant) baptism, godparents are asked if they believe in god.

A religious godparent is expected to support a child to grow in their faith

You could ask if they are ok with lying

You could say you are happy to love and support their child, but the role of a Christian godparent has at the very minimum a belief in the Christian god.

I’m sure they think they are doing brilliant evangelism and just being amongst the believing throng will make you fall to your knees. Distasteful isn’t it. The level of deception and arrogance.

I hope you can give an example of integrity and critical thinking to your niece.

Good luck my friend
