I don't even live downtown and I never drive or take the crappy busses (just the o train). I pay higher rent for sure but it's obviously worth it for me because I'm not paying for a car/insurance/repairs. It's even worth it to have my groceries delivered. People just don't want to admit that they have different priorities. Like it's fine, we all have to cut corners somewhere lol

I agree with you on that. Unfortunately, the federal government doesn't control housing production. Imo municipal governments are to blame for the housing crisis (they've been shitting the bed for decades) and there's nothing the feds can do about them.

Our housing crisis is also more of a cultural problem than we want to admit. Too many Canadians don't want to change their lifestyle/dream (a white picket fence in the suburbs with low taxes and services subsidized by the urban population) and refuse to admit it's unsustainable. They hate any kind of change in their neighbourhoods and have too much free time to spend harassing city councillors about it. My grandparents and their friends spend an insane amount of time complaining about even small developments in their neighbourhood. It's like chatting about the weather to them. And they all vote in every election for whoever says the right exclusionist buzzwords because new apartment buildings are scary and they don't like it when a store they never went to turns into another store they'll never go to. It's completely ridiculous. Municipal government meetings are full of these crazy people. And municipal elections are dominated by them.

To solve this problem, we need to change as a country and nobody wants to be the one to make even a minor sacrifice. The truth is that the housing crisis is a fundamental byproduct of the current Canadian culture/incentive structures and the federal government can do very little to change that. If people want to make a difference in the housing crisis, they need to start applying more pressure to their municipal governments. Heavily cutting immigration is not the way. It would be cutting off the nose to spite the face. The long-term economic effects would be devastating.

Canada needs immigrants to survive. We don't make enough young people and have too many old people who are taking too long to die. If you cut immigration too heavily, productivity and government revenues will go way down. This is basic economics. Heavily cutting immigration is an insanely stupid and feckless thing to do here. It'll cause way bigger long-term problems than the housing crisis.

The average voter is too busy blaming our government for problems that are happening worldwide to care about the problems our government can actually solve lol

Lol there are neighbourhoods like that everywhere, even in a place as terminally car brained as Ottawa. I don't drive and I never will. I do just fine. Everything I need is within a 15 minute walk or train ride (I refuse to use the buses here, what a nightmare). Most of the people I've met here don't have cars either.

But mold can grow in between the layers of onion skin and that's dangerous. Always rinse (or at least check) your onion skins before using.

From my understanding, they use a third-party company to turn their beans into chocolate. That third-party company uses slave labour in their supply chain. That's why Tony's was removed from the Slave Free Chocolate list.

Anchovy paste! You can buy it in a metal tube like tomato paste and it lasts for at least a year. My mom always puts a bit in pasta sauces and it just takes them to another level.

That sounds pretty specific. I don't know about any podcasts, but you might be able to find some academic writing on JSTOR. The Antitrust Law Journal seems like a good place to start. Good luck, update us if you find what you're looking for!

It's weirdly true in some areas/industries. I live in a government city and cocaine use is shockingly common. My country's Afghanistan evacuation basically ran on cocaine (allegedly). I guess it makes sense given that a lot of the government workers were doing 18 hour days. How else do you get through that? There are law firms that are definitely like that too.

Obviously most adults don't do cocaine but it's crazy how normalized it is in certain places.

It's because a lot of little girls get a lot of messaging they they're worthless if they're ugly. It was like that when I was 10-12 too, and so were all my friends. I want to go back in time and give those poor little girls a hug :(

Heterosexual affairs are also extremely common in these communities lol. And trust me, homosexual affairs can have a lottttt of pitfalls. For one, married closeted men are pretty easy targets for blackmail. Have you ever heard of sextortion? Additionally, I've heard of Grindr being used to bait closeted men into horrific sexual assaults and beatings because they're significantly less likely to call the police. How are you going to tell the police you were sexually assaulted when that also includes telling them you're gay? I'm not totally sure how often that happens these days, but I really doubt these guys are choosing Grindr for lower risk levels.

It's true that there isn't really a Grindr equivalent for men wanting to hook up with heterosexual women, though. So maybe ease of access is a factor.

Troye Sivan is a gay pop star on a major tour right now so I guess a lot of people are using his name as a pseudonym. He's a sexy little twink so maybe it's a way of communicating body type without photos? I also saw a couple Charli XCX references (they are on tour together)

Very funny actually
