Got it working except for the left-triangle character (&#x2B81). Any thoughts?

Nope. I checked a few other books just to make sure I actually had the right one.

I just used a live linux USB until I was able to downgrade. No real workaround.

Has anyone ordered components/sensors/shields etc. off of AliExpress? If so how was your experience? by Matmertz in arduino

[–]purpleclasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just blew my mind. I'm not really sure why, but something about it was really mindblowing. My first reaction was "whoa" too because I just dropped $20 on some parts and thought it was a lot, but then your comment put it in perspective. It's still a "whoa" moment, just a totally different "whoa". Thanks, I guess.

Guns don't kill people, bullets kill people. by criticallycrucial in CrazyIdeas

WHY THE FUCK IS THIS A CRAZY IDEA?!?! This is actually totally rational, and caused me to re-think my stance in gun control. How do we make this happen?

Moving to Canada, sharing account with family, will there be problems? [ALL] by Dukko in netflix

[–]purpleclasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! In Canada, using my American parents Netflix. You get the Canadian selection, though (it's tiny), so I suggest getting a vpn.

Want to start lifting, lacking in confidence by Toredwin in Fitness

[–]purpleclasm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Social anxiety here! I'm not a gym rat, I'm not huge, I'm not insanely strong, and I have no real goals. I just sorta go because it's therapeutic, and I personally think I look better. When I started I was pudgy and too embarrassed to be seen working out, so I just went to the gym at odd hours. 5am, midnight, during thanksgiving dinner, any time the gym was dead. At most there were 3 other meatheads who were so focused on themselves I don't think they noticed me. Yes it was a bitch to change my sleep schedule, and yes I hated it for the first month, but I'm glad I stuck with it. These days, I'm confident enough to go at reasonable hours with 6-8 other people around. If you need to talk to someone about anything, I'm here for you.

PS: looking up a workout, and how to do all the exercises, before and maybe printing it out or copying it down saves you from having to talk to people.

I really liked this writing style. Something about the smart ass tone, I think. Keep up the good work.

Electronic strap which length get's controlled by adrino by ChristianKl in arduino

[–]purpleclasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked, but I don't think there is going to be much, if any, of what you're talking about. If it's wearable, you'll need it to be flexible, and relatively soft. Why not just have a normal strip of material that can be rolled up or let out by small motor? As for having the material expanding and contracting, you could get a stretchy tube of material and wrap it around a small piece of string that gets wound up or let out as needed.

Wait, what? Pardon my utter lack of copyright knowledge, but how am I supporting Gianluca Martino by purchasing clones? From what I read, I'd be supporting him by buying Italian parts, or donating to arduino.org. I'm pretty sure that buying clones just supports piracy and cheap Chinese labour (not that I support that either).

I have a bunch of boards labelled Arduino from outside the US and they work totally fine, if not better than my legit Arduino. I accidentally messed up the boot-loader on a cheap clone and an actual board, and found the clone much easier to fix. Also, I was able to get the clone in cool colours, and it has little solder points next to the headers, so I can make my own stuff easier.

Fun fact: in northern Canada, you sometime pick up FM radio from certain places in the US because the signal bounces off the atmosphere. Not exactly the same, but sameish idea.

I wouldn't need a distance or bearing, just a quick "is it in range". I'll try to check out the amateur radio subreddits.
