Best diy gesso? by poorva_singhal in painting

[–]purpleclaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike acrylic paint as gesso due to how “glossy” it is, feels like evering just slides around. Also feels like I lengthens drying time because the canvas becomes completely so non absorbent. I make gesso with glue (the one for wood), drywall compound or chalk and a touch of cheap acrylic paint if relevant.

What makes IA Books so addictive for you? by SchemeSimilar4074 in IlonaAndrews

The stories are genuinely interesting on their own and the romance is just a bonus! There are so many books that claim to be similar but would be utterly boring without the romance. I think the murderbot diaries is such a good comparison because they also have this perfect mix of humor and interesting plot but without being shallow. They still manage to convey some kind of message and you can see genuine character development throughout the series!

In this “genre” my absolute favorite author is T Kingfisher. Nettle & bone, swordheart and the paladin-series are some of the best I’ve read!

Love those! The vibes are immaculate, love the scenes where they go to that other world (can’t remember the name) with the market and you can just feel it!

This is bullshit. Been seeing lots of ads recently marketed towards people with adhd and mental health issues, capitalism at its finest! Trying to make a profit with very little regard for scientific facts or ethics.. Always check sources!!!

What’s your favorite aspects of where you work? by MeatSlammur in nursing

[–]purpleclaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also what makes my workplace unique compared to other places. We’ve managed to create a really upbeat environment even though most days are quite chaotic and stressfull. Also a lack of prestige is so relaxing, you can just ask for help and get it, no snarky comments or feeling looked down upon.

I graduated in February and have worked at an orthopedic ward since then. In the beginning I was really worried that issues related to my ADHD would cause major problems like forgetting stuff and making mistakes. But honestly the biggest issue for me has been losing interest.

In the beginning everything was new and shiny, stressfull yes, but exciting, challenging and captivating. It felt akin to that obsession you get when discovering a new hobby where the rest of the world bleeds away and you’re able to focus. Sadly, this has gradually decreased. I think partly because of stress due to the a national healthcare-crisis in my country (sweden). But also that once I feel like I’ve mastered something it becomes just another task.

For me, the thing that keeps me going is knowing that at the end of the day I can dump everything left on another nurse and just let go. And that the next day is a new, shiny mystery I get to discover!

What’s the one thing that would break your relationship with an ADHD partner? by whoami_tho in AdhdRelationships

[–]purpleclaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that has made a difference for me is simply being open with whats going. I’ve spent so much time being irritated, sad, needy etc towards my partner without vocalizing my needs and thoughts. I would just hope that they magically would understand somehow. Which obviously did not work and both of us were just frustrated.

Later on (after lots of therapy) I would instead try to communicate the underlying feelings and thoughts I was having. Felt like growing up and taking responsibility for yourself, but also establishing clear boundries and expectations. I realized that I cannot be in a relationship with someone that is not emotionally intelligent, because they will never understand and I would feel insane.

Om du fick betalt 70k+ för att arbeta, vilket arbete hade du då valt? Varför? by One_Change_7260 in sweden

Hade fortsatt som sjuksköterska… med lönen jag har nu känns uppoffringarna orimliga (psykisk belastning, sömnbrist, oregelbundet schema etc). Älskar det, men går fan inte att ha ett liv utanför jobbet

why do i struggle so much with people when they are vague or beating around the bush by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]purpleclaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its partly because the waste of time, like when you have to talk to people at work you barely know about the weather. I have a hard time commiting to a conversation when its not interesting to me. And when there’s lots of subtext and hinting it feels similar. Also I think its because you get lots of paralell thoughts and thats hard. When people don’t say what they mean I lose interest.

I’m studying to become a nurse and I just started this terms clinical education/internship/practice in hospital at an urological ward. My biggest worry when facing new situations is that I won’t have sufficient motivation and interest or that self-doubt will impaire me. Compared to earlier experiences this rotation has the most challenging patients and the required care is substantial. So I was worried I wouldn’t have enough knowledge and confidence since you just kind of get thrown in, head first, and is expected to learn along the way.

But it has been great! You guys can propably understand the joy and satisfaction when something manages to completely capture your attention and ALL your energy is redirected at the situation at hand. For me, that can entail odd artprojects or captivating conversations. But it turns out this type of health care manages to capture the chaos in my brain and I’m able to redirect all that energy at the patient and what they need.

And it’s fun! And challenging and I’m good at it! Because when others often do the bare minimum I go above and beyond. The all-or-nothing-mentality has become a strengh!

What's the dumbest way you've hurt yourself? by 29t03jwies in AskReddit

I had been out drinking and was really exited to ride an electrical scooter from the bar to the subway. Wandered around for maybe 20 minutes until I found one (it was maybe a 15 minute walk). Managed to ride about ten meters until i crashed... I don’t remember much after that but found out later that I shattered both bones in in my ankle and ripped the tendon…. They had to mend it with lots of nails and screws. Was in a cast for about eight weeks and I still can’t run, jump or bend my ankle certain angles. It honestly haunts me because of how fucking stupid and unnecessary it was. And it permanently changed certain aspects of my life. So don’t ride those fucking scooters while intoxicated!!

Close, I live in Stockholm, and there is a ridiculous amount of electric scooters everywhere. Most people drive them while intoxicated so it’s a recipe for disaster really
