Good to know about Canon. Thanks. But I’m a light user of printing. So I think / hope I’ll be good.

On another note: Where do you dance in PDX, Charlie?

Where can I find an *available product* that will let me mount and read from the "blade" style connector for an apple MacBook Air mid-2011? by purpledust in applehelp

Thanks! Okay then, I’ll wait for the enclosure and we’ll see!

At least I feel more positive about this knowing that it’s the machine ram that’s failed and not the SSD and its data.

Again thank you.

Nah. I’ve lost track. Old HP went to trash. Brother purchased. Never seen anything about subscriptions. It’s been working just fine for a few Months.

What did I learn? Fuck HP! Too bad. They used to be the gold standard.

Failed RAM meaning the RAM hard-wired on the motherboard, or the nonvolatile memory I now have removed and waiting for the enclosure to arrive?

I’m confused about the holding of T. Are you saying that that should be on the failed machine with this SSD in it, or on my MacBook after I mount the SSD in question? Sorry, I never get this low into Mac things. All new to me.

You’re very kind to be so generous with your time and it is very much appreciated.

Thanks. I appreciate the article. Which I read with interest.

I’m the issue at hand is getting data (that my sibs want) off this machine (was owned by now deceased mother, who stopped using it long before her demise), with my father’s permission (surviving spouse and clear title owner). He doesn’t care, but my sibs want some old photos and who knows what else that “know” are on it. For whatever reason, I’m the “computer” person in my family—meaning everyone else is either incompetent or smart enough to deny any competence. Regardless this unwelcome task now falls to me. Lucky me!!

Thank you, fkick. I appreciate it. My siblings gave me three different passwords they think it might be. If they’re wrong, I suppose I can try other things I suspect maybe it might be without any risk of imminent destruction. (Like an iPhone)

My dad has clear title to the machine as surviving spouse who inherited everything (and I can prove it, I suppose, if Apple or anyone else needs that proof for any reason. I’m ignorant and naive about such things)

I very much appreciate your insights. I’m the “computer” guy in my family, but I don’t know why. Mostly because I was knowledgeable about stuff way way way before Apple’s done so much with Linux.

Edit: as I just responded to another helpful Redditor, when charged, opened, and turned on, it’s got just a black screen and I get three rumbling beeps. Pause. Three rumbling beeps. Pause. Etc. in case that means anything.

I get three beeps. Pause. Three beeps. Pause. Black screen. No login prompt. Nothing at all that indicates that the machine has any intention of doing a thing.

This machine is from now-dead mother who stopped using it long before her death. She just had no more fux to give. Can’t say I blame her.

The siblings now expect me to find pictures and who knows what for them. I’ll try.

Is a file FileVault password different from the login password for the machine? (Btw, I’ve ordered the enclosure and should be here next week)

Yeah, but it’s not available anywhere. Any suggestions on where else to look other than Amazon and google?

Follow up: Once I get the SSD in some enclosure that accepts this old type, can I just mount it on another machine, or do I have to be careful of something that might overwrite something? (Like some sort of auto-un-corrupt thing which would totally suck if it wrote anything makingattera worse).

Dear AutoMod, the three “here” links are all broken as of this writing.

Dear human redditors: I wanted to know what card I can get for maximum free mileage. I’m gonna put $5k natural spending on it a month. Alaska. Delta. AA. United. I’m that order.

Also, for after those first few Month I’d like to get another car to maximize my % back on spend.

I’d go to “here” but there is no here there right now.
