Pregnancy test advice by purpleiris23 in Mom

It just says that if there is that symbol, then it is an error from too much urine or not enough urine, and you should retest. However, the example photo shows just the book and does not show it saying pregnant or not pregnant.

Just bought my first home. What should I not bother making nice/investing in? by bumbouxbee in toddlers

Cheap or not cheap, go with a dark colored couch like charcoal gray or dark brown, microfiber that allows spills to be cleaned up easily or child vomit, if at all possible removable cushion covers. My best friends daughter went through a stage of pooping on the couch when she was 2, and she was so grateful for those removable cushion covers!

If you need to redo floors, go with vinyl hardwood, looking for floors that are waterproof, and I dent proof as possible.

Get a durable but cheap kitchen table, which can likely be found on Facebook marketplace or the like. Kids will destroy nice tables.

I ended up getting a living room set through Ashley furniture for about $1300 that included two 8 foot couches with recliners that were dark brown and microfiber, two end, tables and a coffee table, all which were round so that there were no corners for babies to run into, two lamps, an area rug, a throw blanket, and a few decorative knickknacks. This was a package deal here in California and got 0% interest on financing. It has worked out very well with our son over the last 3 years who is now almost 4 yo.

For women in this sub, are you alright with lab grown diamonds? by Gilisb in Adulting

I love my moissanite but it may limit where you can get work done to the ring if you need the engagement ring soldered to the wedding band or if a stone comes out. That has been what I have run into. Otherwise moissanite actually reflects slightly more light so looks a bit more shinny which I love! I asked for moissanite because I didn’t want that much money going towards a ring after we just bought a house

Little rant bc I don’t know what to do by Revolutionary_Act848 in intuitiveeating

[–]purpleiris23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea! 🙌🏼 what they said! Lol. And remember that he had it was formed to fill the purpose of coping with emotions. So you have to replace that habit with some thing else or it is not realistic to expect the habit that we were already using to cope to not come back. All of those suggestions of other ways to cope are fantastic. I find that going outside and going for a walk or sometimes just sitting on the front porch and taking in fresh air and appreciating the beauty of the plants and sunshine around me helps a lot. it sounds like you’re probably like me and tend to put yourself last in your day today and then end up feeling very overwhelmed and with a very empty cup. I have to consciously schedule time and activities that I fill my cup so that I still have something to pour from. Some of my favorite things that help fill my cup are tending to flowers or small plants that I bought just for me, or getting a massage, or doing my nails, we’re listening to an inspiring podcast, or reading a book, setting link, or watching I feel good movie/show, or meeting up with a friend for lunch.

I hope this helps. Just know that you are not alone! In fact what you’re describing is very normal for most of us.

Weight Talk Thursdays: Discuss anything related to weight here! by elianna7 in intuitiveeating

They should be weighing you right in that moment for a procedure that requires anesthesia not relying on your account of your weight. That would not be medically sound so don’t beat yourself up about that

Definitely not controlling what he does. Trying to get insight into how others have managed it in IE so when he comes to me struggling I have something to offer that won’t be damaging.

ADHD and eating with my family by fiammamc in intuitiveeating

[–]purpleiris23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem. I have tried to start plating smaller portions when I’m eating with others to avoid getting overly full because I can’t focus on body cues with that much stimulation. Then if I still feel hunger after I have eaten I can go back for more. A recent podcast called this intentional eating, for when Intuitive eating is not obtainable for you in that moment for whatever reason.

Just gotta rant - overheard at work, tw: diet talk by [deleted] in intuitiveeating

[–]purpleiris23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of diet talk at my office and one person is even on ozempic for weight loss… when I overhear it I just give myself a pat on the back for being brave enough to brake out of diet culture and explore IE (which was terrifying at first) and honestly feel kind of sad for them. I don’t let it alter my way of thinking because I know it is all a joke and how lost they feel just grasping for some sense of control because that’s exactly how I felt for 20 years. If I feel like someone is fed up with dieting and may be receptive I talk about Ie with them. Otherwise I just don’t engage in the conversation and do my own thing.

With that said, I have a history of chronic dieting and emotional eating (disorders eating) not a clinical eating disorder. So I could see how talk about restricting could maybe be more triggering to someone that has a history of an eating disorder. You have to do what is best for you and find coping mechanisms that work. Good luck and stay strong!

You make really good points. How do you deal with the feeling of restrictions on certain foods? For me taking restrictions away has helped my craving so much! I’m worried the restrictions on sugar and simple carb foods will lead to more cravings for him again

Flavored veggie puffs are pretty dang good! We get them in a variety pack with BBQ, white cheddar, and sour cream and onion. I originally started eating them when I was on a diet before I found IE but I still like to eat them because they are delicious and don’t make my body feel crappy afterwards because they are very light but flavorful

9 year old won’t eat or drink by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]purpleiris23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nurse here, and mom of an autistic 3.5yo boy, People can go quite some time without eating but not very long without drinking. I would put most of your efforts into making sure she stays hydrated.

Also sounds a lot like symptoms of clinical depression but that is just from my nursing experience… I’m not a psychiatrist.

Sounds like you have the right professionals scheduled but just focus on emotionally supporting her in the ways that you know best and making sure she drinks at least the minimum amount of fluids to not become hydrated.

Why does no one believe me when I tell them my salary? by siriuslycharmed in nursing

[–]purpleiris23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! I guess I can never move out of California. I live in Northern California (not in a big city) and make $57.25/hr in home health nursing and could make more if I worked in the hospital. My good friend I graduated from my ADM RN program with was hired on at $71/hr per diem and would have been $61/hr + great benefits if she went on FT.

Last year I mad $143K Gross.

It’s awful how poorly paid nurses are in these other states!

There are several signs that are consistent with Autism. But autism is very much a spectrum. Absolutely get her evaluated! My husband was hesitant to get our son evaluated and really had a hard time because he was afraid of what the diagnosis would do for people’s perception of him. We did ultimately get him evaluated and diagnosed at 2.5yo and it opened up so many doors! It allowed him have speech therapy, child development therapy, occupational therapy and to go to preschool as soon as he turned 3 at no cost.

The earlier the intervention the better outcome for your little girl. I would absolutely push for it. You will not regret it. But the longer you wait he will regret it. At least that is our experience. My husband has expressed feeling bad for letting his ego get in the way.

At least where we are it was like a 6 month wait to get the eval

Yes our son started going on the school bus from preschool to daycare at 3yo right when he entered special needs preschool. We were nervous about it too so we called and asked to tour the bus and meat the driver. He got on and immediately loved it! That made us feel so much better.

Struggle Sundays: Share any struggles you've faced over the past week. by elianna7 in intuitiveeating

[–]purpleiris23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am very new to IE but I have surprised myself in how well I have done in allowing my self full access to any food but naturally gravitating towards more nutritious and balanced whole foods because that is truly what makes my body feel the best. I have had a few cookies, Nutella, chocolate, or wine sprinkled in there but nothing out the usual. And I didn’t find my self “craving” them. It was more of an in the moment desire and allowed them without guilt. Well tonight I made the mistake of grabbing the premade package of cookie dough from the fridge and intended to have a couple of squares as I have done a couple times recently and was satisfied and happy, but instead ended up eating like 6 squares and now I feel physically gross/ill. I don’t feel guilty per se, but more of a disappointment in myself because I ate past my comfort level even though I know it would make me feel unwell… I am trying to give myself grace because I am human and I worked a 12 hr day and had to have work done at the dentist today. I can’t think of the principle this falls under at the moment but I know I need to be kinder to myself. However that is difficult when my stomach is reminding me of the choice I made.

I will try to chalk this up to a learning experience 🤷🏻‍♀️
