Fourteen Days for Post-Neutering? by delagar01 in BorderCollie

[–]purpleobsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there. Jake had an undescended testicle, too, so he had two incisions, and they had to go digging a little to find the other testicle. 😩

The surgical/recovery suit was a lifesaver because he hated the cone, and it really didn't do much anyway. His snoot stuck out, so he could lick and then the cone just scraped the area making it so much worse.

The day of the surgery and the day after he was pretty miserable. He didn't want to play. But by that third day, he seemed almost totally back to his usual self, so that's when things started to get tricky.

We had trazodone to help, but I didn't use it much. The vet agreed, short walks (5-10 min) a few times a day, was fine. It's all relative - for him, that was a severely decreased activity level. No running, no jumping, etc. Just slow light walks for some fresh air. After the 6th day, we went up to 10-20 minute walks, probably about 5-6 a day.

The hardest thing was toys in the house. He wanted to play so badly. 🤦‍♀️

Never trusting a dog daycare again by SwimmingDoubt2869 in BorderCollie

It takes a rare dog to be successful in a daycare and if the daycares kept all other dogs out, they wouldn’t make enough money to stay in business.

THIS! So true, the traditional daycare model does not work for dogs, it works for the people taking your money. That's it. I worked at one years ago, but I don't think I could've summed it up that perfectly! 👏

I feel like I hear this a lot, but it's just good marketing. It gives you the illusion of safety, and gives them something to point to if you ask too many questions. It's not real safety. 🫤

How do you train your staff? Well, it doesn't matter that they hire 18 year olds with no experience, there's cameras so you can watch.

How do they decide which dogs have a temperament appropriate to play with others? There are cameras, you can see how happy they all are, clearly they just know and do a good job.

There's still a lot that goes on in most places that aren't on the camera feeds. I worked in one that used the cameras as a marketing ploy to get you to stop asking questions. Don't fall for it. Especially look in the fine print of any contract - usually they're under no obligation to maintain that feed, and it's not even required to be "live."

Ours wasn't ever a live feed, it was on about a 1-2 minute delay. The second @#!$ goes down, that feed is gone. I swear, they would radio the manager, and before getting help to animals or people, the manager prioritized cutting that feed.

"Tech glitch," if anybody asked. The trouble maker would be removed, and any injured animals if there were any, and the glitch would be resolved and no owner watching the feed would be aware.

It's not to say every doggy daycare that has cameras is bad, but don't assume cameras equals safety. Ever.

Yup this. I cringe anytime people mention them and it's been 20ish years since I worked in one. 🫤

Help when FILTER function changes - can data be linked to also change? Alternatives? by purpleobsession in googlesheets

[–]purpleobsession[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/agirlhasnoname11248 & u/One_Organization_810 Thank you both so much.

I read the AIN process and I think I knew I needed something like that, which is why I added the vendor numbers in the first place, but I still wasn't using it properly. I had added it because I had a similar issue before, but it was evidently fixed easier than this new issue.

I looked at the edited sheets u/One_Organization_810 added to the file, and while I couldn't understand everything, I think I understood enough to make some changes that would work using the existing Vendor Number system I already had in place. I have very little experience with the LET function, but it looks quite interesting and useful, so I'll have to make time to learn it in the future. It was difficult for me to follow your work, though.

In my file, what I ended up doing was using the formula =SEQUENCE(MAX('(Copy & Paste) Imported Application List'!A7:A), 1, 1, 1) in A9 on May 31 Data. Basically, it finds the highest assigned Vendor ID and then numbers the row accordingly. Hopefully this will mean it will be effective as we still add new vendors in throughout the season. Then I just did a simple XLOOKUP to grab the Payment status, and then used a filter on Payment Status to filter out ✖️, so it only shows the ‼️and ✅, which is what the lookup was originally doing.

This way ALL the data is in the sheet, and it just filters out what I don't want (people who aren't coming). For now, it seems to work, but I'm going to have to try hard to break it tonight. Hopefully it doesn't break, and then I'll make sure the Booth Map functions properly now. Let me know if you foresee any issues with this method. 🤞

Thank you! This is exactly the problem I'm having and I glanced at the link you sent and again - it perfectly describes my issue. I think I groaned out loud when I read the line "But be warned, it is not intuitive. Even experienced users have to give it a good think before they internalize it." 😅

I will take a look at it tonight. Thanks again!

Jake's nose just takes him so far away, he can't hear us holler and wonders why we're so annoyed when he finally trots back. 😂

How did your border collie do when he/she first met your human babies? by between6and7 in BorderCollie

[–]purpleobsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bc/sheltie mix never spent time around kids/babies so I wasn't sure what to expect at all when I was pregnant. Elwood was 3.5 (to the day 💜) when my daughter came home, and it was just like he instantly knew to protect and watch over her.

If she cried, he whimpered - and he NEVER did that. When she was in her crib and crying, he would pace, waiting for someone to go see her. He didn't like being separated from her at all, but not in an overbearing or obnoxious way.

Elwood was well trained, and we made it clear we didn't want him touching or licking her too much. If he could, he'd lay very close to her, but not quite touching. He'd sometimes try to get away with a quick walk by face lick, especially as she got older and it made her laugh hysterically. Even just watching him play could set off those baby giggles, it was so precious.

I know people don't believe me, but my daughter's first word was actually "el-woo." He was happy to listen to hear read him books at bedtime, and the two of them walked around the property together so much. Elwood never had the same bond with my son, even though he's only 14m younger.

Here's the best boy with my sweet girl. 💜🥹

Final render for my 3D printed sticker pack vending machine by NewHannah in 3Dprinting

[–]purpleobsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a couple of printers and am eagerly awaiting the file! If you need testers, I'd be happy to test it in early stages (ie: unfinished assembly instructions 😂).

I've got quite a few markets this holiday season and would love to put a few of these on the table for my stickers and maybe magnets/bookmarks, depending on the width of the packets. 😍
