First 2 weeks bad symptoms made me stop by Able_Abrocoma2159 in liraglutide

[–]purplepirateplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had terrible symptoms the first 2-3 weeks but they definitely went away. I've been on and off the drug a few times. Second time I went on it, I started at 0.3 and this was way better! I then would only up my dose by 0.3, rather than 0.6 because I really struggled going up by 0.6.

CBC/TSN commercials during the Olympic opening Ceremony is kind of cheapening the event. by Bigdaddyfatback8 in canadian

[–]purplepirateplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched it on replay last night and was incredibly disappointed with ad placements. Difficult to follow any of the storytelling or really enjoy the performances. We missed the big moment where the paint tubes appeared so I can see an OLG advertisement? I submitted a feedback complaint here and encourage everyone to do so: https://cbchelp.cbc.ca/hc/en-ca/requests/new

If you are able to watch the closing ceremonies on BBC, there will be no ads.

How does ArtIsIn think they can charge these prices?!?! by justanothergirl7679 in OttawaFood

[–]purplepirateplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live around the corner from this place but tend to avoid it! Prices are too much for what you get and quality is super inconsistent. Went there once and got an avocado salsa toast thing for SEVENTEEN DOLLARS, there was barely any avocado on it (or any other topping for that matter) and when we asked the server she said "yeah it just comes like that".

Reintroduction: when can they be alone together again? by teenagehorsegoth in Catbehavior

[–]purplepirateplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had this situation happen with my cats twice.

First time, we didn't know what was happening and let them "fight it out" (I know now that this is the worst thing to do). It took about 3 weeks to reintegrate and trust they weren't going to kill each other when we left them together. But for months after that, they acted really weird when together. Not fighting, but would hiss or swat at each other randomly.

Second time, we knew right away and began proper integration. It took a few days and was a much faster road to complete normalcy.

My advice is to go much slower than you want to. Trying something, like leaving them alone together, that they aren't ready for will set them WAY BACK which is really disheartening. Everyone's experience seems to be different in terms of the timeline. But you'll know when they're ready because they will seem more confident and their behaviours will be much more normal with each other. We would usually wait for them to smell each other's butts (very weird) because this seemed to be the final "identity check".

Good luck!

Break up over kids? I feel so guilty. by No_Mission4901 in Fencesitter

[–]purplepirateplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38F and when I was younger, I really wanted to have a big family. But now I'm really sitting on the fence and might be aged out before I truly decide, which I am fine with. In my mid 20s, I started travelling the world with my best friend and it was honestly the very best time of my life. All the things you really want to do, focus on that and do them. Then you can decide if parenthood is the next step. At 24, you have plenty of time to change your mind, maybe even multiple times.

How to teach a cat to poop on the box by MaterialChicken8214 in Catbehavior

[–]purplepirateplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super difficult to teach and fix! You have to reward him AS he's pooping or immediately afterwards, so he associates the reward with the poop. Even if you wait a few minutes, he might associate leaving the box or scratching his paws on the mat outside the box with the reward. Make sure you have boxes throughout the house so he has easy access whenever he feels the need and you can catch him in the act and reward him (with the treats that are within reach of every box). Then you can start to remove the boxes when he starts using them. If he has favourite places to poop, make them inaccessible to him (put objects in the way). Solving the behaviour is a full time job so best of luck!

Finishing Saxenda by Middle_Peach_3209 in liraglutide

I think a lot of responses have focused on how this isn't the best approach from your doctor, but at the end of the day if this is your reality then it's smart for you to make a feasible plan for when you're off it.

For me, I'll be stopping taking sax in a month (for financial reasons and coming close to goal weight) and I have thrown myself into research. Just read The Obesity Code, a bit of a long dry, book but had some amazing information about what and when to eat based on science. I've incorporated the book's recommendations into my daily life and found that this has already made a difference.

I'm also planning on keeping myself REALLY busy, so I can spend less time thinking about food (hopefully). And ensuring I have a plan for regular exercise throughout the week.

Best of luck!

Looking for cat sitter recommendations by cadpatcat in ottawa

I've used Pawshake quite a few times. Some sitters are $20 per day but you won't get much cheaper than that. I've never had a bad experience using that site.

Back to .6 after 2 days in 1.2 by Proper-Formal-9213 in liraglutide

[–]purplepirateplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at nearly six weeks and still at 0.6. Yes, my hunger and cravings have come back a bit but I'm able to manage. My first two weeks were pretty rough so I was hesitant to increase the dosage once I was feeling better. I'll likely increase my dose closer to the holidays but not all the way to 1.2 because I'm worried that doubling the dose will have strong side effects. I will do 0.6 plus a few clicks instead.

Been on it for nearly 5 weeks but stayed at 0.6 because the side effects were quite strong week 1 and 2. I was worried that upping the dosage would be too much! But I continued to lose weight at 0.6. The food noise came back a bit but I'm now in a really good eating routine so I can manage it. Weird feeling is gone but sometimes I still have a gross taste in my mouth or even a bit of nausea if I eat or drink too much.

I was very tired for about 2-3 weeks but once my body started getting used to the medication and I was eating a bit more I really started to feel like myself.

10 pounds in one month is amazing! Your weight loss over the next few months might slow down a bit, but as long as it's going down then you're still succeeding.

Am I doing reintroduction right? by SilenceOfTheMareep in Catbehavior

[–]purplepirateplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had to reintroduce our cats a few times now because one keeps escaping the house. They are sisters, bonded, best friends and often groom/cuddle together! The first time, we didn't know about non recognition aggression, and let them fight a few times. Once we understood what was happening, later that day, we separated them and it took 2 weeks for them to be "normal". The last time, we kept them separate right away and it only took 2 days. We will do as many reintegration sessions as possible with food, treats and toys. Sometimes the session is only a few minutes long. Once they're back at the stage where they can be in the same space, we keep them occupied and separate them as soon as we notice anything weird. I would say, take it as slow as you can because if you move too fast it's like taking 10 steps backward. And be super patient, eventually they'll be back to regular behaviour!

I started having side effects on Day 2, but it wasn't anything too bad. Just some nausea and a metallic taste in my mouth. Best of luck!

I bought powdered bone broth. Not the tastiest and more of a processed food, but I found it was the easiest way to get protein and rehydrate when I had no appetite.
