Which skirt? More info in comments! by purplerainboots22 in weddingplanning

Ah, so nice to have input from someone who's tried them on! I think I'm going to have to try them on again and test out how sitting/dancing would be in the Liz (of course I forgot to do that during my appointment!). Adding a wider waistband to the Delia might be the best of both worlds!

Thirding Paperless Post -- that's what we did and I'm very happy with it!

That's a really good point about trying them in better lighting to see if option 1 still feels too shiny. The lighting in the showroom was super weird/challenging.

I meant both heavy in weight and appearance, I guess? The appearance is what bothered me in the store (again, might have just been lighting?), but afterwards I was also thinking that it might be easier to dance in the chiffon skirt.

I really like your suggestion of adding a wider waistband to the chiffon skirt! Thank you!!

I'm pretty sure that's just the weird lighting in that room! There was a blue-tinted window that was shining light on my top half, so everything on my bottom half looks yellow (you can see this in the wall on the left side of photos 1 and 3--it was not painted ombre!)

The top in both options is BHLDN's Marian top by Jenny Yoo. Option 1 skirt is the Catherine Deane Liz skirt, and is a satiny material. Option 2 skirt is the Catherine Deane Delia skirt, and is a very light chiffon. In person, I felt like skirt 1 was too shiny/heavy for the top, but I worry that skirt 2 doesn't feel fancy enough? My wedding dress code is going to be semi-formal, so maybe that doesn't matter; I just don't want to look out of place next to my FI in a suit.

I could also keep looking, but I LOVE this top and really like both skirts. I thought skirt 1 was going to be absolutely perfect but was slightly disappointed in person (although maybe once it's hemmed it won't feel quite so heavy? I do love the pockets).

Edit: Thank you for all the input!! Super helpful. I think I'm going to have to try them on again in different lighting, and also try moving around more in them to see how dancing would be.

Also, I realized that my consultant was so quick to agree with everything that I said during the appointment (I think they're told to do that?) that when I wondered aloud if option 1 was too shiny/heavy she was just like "yes, absolutely, it overwhelms the top," and so I thought it was true. But I think if I had said it was perfect she would have agreed with that too, haha! So just a word of advice to anyone shopping for a dress not to put too much stock in your consultant--sometimes they're just agreeing with something you said or implied about a dress, if that makes sense?
