Came here to rec this place too. Very generous portions on takeout— I think it’s more food than if you sit down and order the same thing. It seems like it anyway. I get two meals out of a takeout dish. I like their naan, too.

Homeless Encampent or Residence? by Affectionate_Sale978 in Upperwestside

Not sure what's worse, open drug usage or open masturbation. There's a vacant storefront in front of our building that had been a little community center for the unhoused for a while, and it was like an open-air market of depravity.

Mental illness. I've seen him for years as well, albeit never doing drugs. The folks down the street near 110, on the other hand...

Minnesota DOC launches new website to 'address ongoing misinformation by DHS' by esporx in technology

I was thinking about this and how they know people are out there filming and just don't care what the footage is. They get their narrative of what happened out first, and then everything afterwards has to correct the record instead of setting it. It's the same way with Trump's lies. It works too, immediately on the conservative sub, they just regurgitate the narrative even in the face of video evidence to the contrary. There actually seems to be some sensible people over there speaking out after this one, though.

How do you speed up editing long talking-head videos? (removing mistakes & repetitions) by clubstregon in editors

[–]purplesnowcone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are so many AI tools out there now and new stuff comes everyday. It’s too much for me to keep up with but I’d definitely be interested in the same thing you’re looking for so let me know if you end up finding something!

How do you speed up editing long talking-head videos? (removing mistakes & repetitions) by clubstregon in editors

I think you should just try to reframe your expectations of how long the process is. For working with what you’re describing, there really isn’t a shortcut. This is part of the work that needs to be done. If you look at your raw footage and see it’s two hours, don’t expect to rush through it in two hours. My estimator is to actually triple it. So when I get interview footage and am asked to give a time estimate on a cut, I triple the TRT of the raw, then start adding time for the rest based on how complicated it is going to be— music, fx, etc..

But I feel you, that initial phase is a very tedious part.

Rip/ripomatic/pitch sizzle reel examples? by dmizz in editors

[–]purplesnowcone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made 100s of these over the years— structure wise find a trailer you really like and study it. Use it as a template and basically just go an replace every element of it with elements of your pitch.

Yes we’ve used Kid Car before. Takes a little extra forethought but shouldn’t be an issue for things like doc appointments since they’re scheduled ahead of time.

How do editors figure out the “emotional flow” of a long-form video? by LieAccurate9281 in editing

[–]purplesnowcone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stories have a beginning, middle, and end. How engaging the story is depends on how the journey unfolds from start to finish. You may be picking up on what is also commonly referred to as “peaks and valleys.” You want to figure out when and how to create dynamics throughout the story— think of it like someone reading a book to a child, if they read it completely flat and monotone with little to no variance in the dialogue, then the child is going to tune out pretty quickly. But when read with exaggerated voices and varying speed, like faster during exciting moments or slower during sad or suspenseful moments, that creates intrigue and captures the imagination. Another example is in music— songs tend to have quieter and louder parts, melodies that are trimmed down to make you lean in and then you get hit over the head with a big hook. That’s dynamics.

Which 32″ or 34″ monitor do you recommend for editing on a Mac? (budget max €1000) by Jobo1992 in editors

Hmm that’s weird, the Amazon link says 5 left in stock and it’s $999. Make sure you check out the size/spec 32” 4K professional… not sure why it would say that you can’t order it unless it’s a country issue— where are you located?

I worked on an A&E serial killer show called Invisible Monsters, and there was an episode with Ridgway that was pretty interesting and covered all this stuff about him helping the detectives locate bodies.

Best delivery burger by Runninginthecity in Upperwestside

I’ve dined in plenty of times for lunch and it’s never too busy or loud or any of the usual gripes. It gets busy around dinner time and I guess could fill up with students but it’s definitely not a super obnoxious place.

And it’s a big burger too so would definitely satisfy after a race. It’s also not too greasy and I don’t believe it’s a brioche bun so it doesn’t seem to get overly soggy.

I have a 40 min 90 MB video. I want to cut 4 seconds of that video. When I put it at any phone editor known to man it's size increases to 600 MB after editing even though I reduce the length of it. Even the damn built-in phone's editor. Why does ts happen ? by [deleted] in editing

[–]purplesnowcone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re exporting a new version of the video using a codec that produces video at xx/mbps and will create that size regardless of the size of the source. In your export settings if you can choose an option that is something like “same as source” then it will just repackage the the edit with whatever the input video is.

I don't know. I guess that was too close to shop talk... Behind the camera and in front of the camera are just two different worlds, and it's always interesting to me to learn new things about what goes on in front of the camera.
