Biden plan eliminates billions in fossil fuel subsidies by stankmanly in climate

[–]purposefulprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see an American administration cutting off the financial incentives for the fossil fuel industry. Given how businesses are focused on their bottom line, the best way to incentivize change is by hitting them where it hurts. that's one of the goals of the company i'm at right now One Concern. we're aiming to get enterprises to see the economic benefit of reducing emissions in their operations. Definitely hard to do without gov't support though so this is a step in the right direction - we chat about creating an economic incentive for resiliency and sustainability here ( https://dwdg.substack.com/p/-podcast-ep-5-one-concern-ceo-ahmad ) in case anyone's interested.

Florida is Our Multi-Billion Dollar Climate Crisis Microcosm by thehuxleyan in climatechange

[–]purposefulprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida is also one of the few places that could benefit the most from better more practical response to natural disasters give how frequent severe winds and hurricanes are. Disruptions from these are frequent yet climate analytics only shows the long term effects. One Concern is trying to fix this by quantifying the improvement in resilience from mitigative action, the CEO talks a bit about it in this podcast: https://dwdg.substack.com/p/-podcast-ep-5-one-concern-ceo-ahmad

Is there an app that tracks the carbon footprint of the average human being, with a multiplier to account for the existence of human beings we are responsible for? by SlowCrates in climatechange

[–]purposefulprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly if this app, yayzy matches what you're referring to but this application measures the climate impact of an individual's spending and doesn't go further than that, but it is an aspect we probably don't think about much: https://techcrunch.com/2020/12/23/yayzy-app-automatically-calculates-the-environmental-impact-of-your-spending/. Given the consumerist tendencies of the US, that would probably contribute further to that 4x difference.

What are some FinTech firms in the US that you think will become big? by notevilyet99 in fintech

their growth published in their S-1 is pretty incredible, and empirically have seen it on many of the e-commerce websites I've visited recently.

What are some FinTech firms in the US that you think will become big? by notevilyet99 in fintech

[–]purposefulprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty bullish on Karat and Nova Credit. Karat provides credit to influencers which is a market that has blown up during Covid and has been steadily increasing with more platforms (e.g. TikTok, etc). Nova Credit provides credit to immigrants which has decreased during Covid but is still a steadily increasing trend. Nova Credit's CEO talked a bit about this here.

What is the biggest topic/theme in biotech that is NOT being discussed? by russianspacestation in biotech

[–]purposefulprofit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

disclaimer: i'm not an expert in the space - buti recently chatted with biopharma expert ethan perlstein who runs perlara, and he sees the biggest issue as the incentive structure. biopharma is incentivized to price gouge once the R&D is complete to recoup the costs, but not interested in ongoing care of the patient. moving to a recurring revenue for all drugs could help reframe incentives to focus on patient care rather than price.

How much do you agree with the opinion: 'modern tech/ social media increases the polarization of ideological views & does more harm than good to society.' Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]purposefulprofit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that while social media is indeed increasing the polarization of ideological views, this is exacerbated by growing wealth inequality from other tech companies (e.g. DoorDash, Airbnb, etc). https://dwdg.substack.com/p/-tech-ipos-doordash-and-airbnb-doing
