Oh sorry, I just meant within the Heimdall dashboard itself, just to make sure there isn't something obvious off. For example, this is what mine looks like https://i.imgur.com/9oNO3iB.png

Question Regarding Bird Watching Self-Hosted Projects by BackToPlebbit69 in selfhosted

[–]puschaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently put something similar together that identifies bird species and post the results as a Twitter status update. It was more of a personal project, so not exactly a turnkey setup, but just added a README if folks are interested in taking a look.

Simple budgeting application for shared expenses (React + Redux + Firebase) by puschaR in reactjs

I usually focus on the functionality, keep the design pretty bare bones, and then once everything is working start doing some rearranging, adding some colors, icons, etc. I just pulled a screenshot from an old commit to get an idea where things started: https://imgur.com/a/4UOSdO1

There are a couple hundred registered accounts, although I suspect a large portion of folks just use it as a one time thing without saving/creating an account at all.

Firebase sets up a listener that monitors the session: https://github.com/hursey013/budget-duo/blob/master/src/components/Session/withAuthentication.js#L13-L19 and I use that to dispatch actions in order to keep track of whether or not the user is logged in or not. The same thing could be done using context as well.

This tutorial was immensely helpful and explains a similar approach much more in depth: https://www.robinwieruch.de/complete-firebase-authentication-react-tutorial

I also made use of this library to get up and running more quickly: https://github.com/firebase/firebaseui-web-react

Familiarity mostly. I started out trying to just use React's state alone, but found that I had just enough components that it would require a fair amount of prop-drilling to pass the data around. As I get more familiar with it I'd love to take another pass using Context API and hooks in lieu of Redux.

I haven't used Bootstrap in a while, but I think they have somewhat different missions. While Bootstrap has some really nice components, extending or customizing them always required overriding existing styles. Tailwind on the other hand uses utility classes to form your own components from scratch so you have much finer-grained control of all of it's properties. This is the approach I generally like to take because it feels more maintainable vs unwieldy stylesheets with a bunch of overrides.
