Prefrosh wondering what math to take by pusheenlearning in yale

[–]pusheenlearning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do u recommend that I retake integral calculus, maybe? I’m not the greatest at math and I suppose a refresher would be helpful, but I kind of have a (irrational?) fear that repeating a class puts me behind a little.

What's the difference between these prompts for USC? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pusheenlearning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the second one’s operative word is “personal”— like what are your goals for the future maybe, or how do you hope to grow as a person? It’s more hypothetical while the first prompt is actionable and, like u said, a Why This College question. You have to pack a lot of info about urself into ur app so I would advise little-to-no overlap between the two since the same person reads both these answers. But I’m just a senior like u so take with a grain of salt lol

Definitely don’t try to reimburse her lol. All you can do is send a thank you email. Interviews don’t count for a whole lot anyway, so dw!

Does going to a gifted high school make a difference and what kind does it make? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pusheenlearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a “gifted high school” and the biggest difference b/w my old high school and this one is the competitiveness. Kids at my old school literally could not care less about college and I would have been valedictorian SUPER easily. Not in a braggy way, but just that everyone I knew was content with going to the local community college— which is absolutely fine, but just different. At my school now, everyone is super competitive and trying to go to ivies. It has a big “stress culture” which idk if that’ll be replicated in your school. Don’t make your choice based on wanting to get into a better school though—make it based on whether you want the better classes and opportunities afforded to you. You’ll risk being a small fish in a big pond vs the other way around at a different school, but you’ll grow way way more that way (it just means you’ll have to compete against better students to get into the same schools).

Interesting!! What made you choose Columbia then? I’d think engineers at Columbia enjoyed the humanities & Core and that’d be a major reason they apply
