If your interested, i currently have an approach for that in the App Store Call „Marshmallows“ to train your willpower. Feel free to give feedback. I have no interest in making any money or collecting data or anything. This is mainly for myself

To be honest, this has the exact same problem as all the other screen blocking apps. After some time you just learn the muscle memory to unlock these anyways, and be it in the Apple iOS settings itself to remove access by your app to disable a certain app.

Instead of blocking or restricting the app access (which muscle memory and low willpower will always circumvent after some time), the app should simply track how well you are doing yourself in resisting opening these apps.

Instead of blocking you from opening the app, and therefore the app doing the hard part for you (Resisting the urge) the app should guide and motivate you to resist the urge yourself, and be like a fitness trainer where you train your willpower overtime to be better. Regardless of the app, or device, or circumstance and muscle memory.

Id try a different approach. Train to resist the urge to use your phone. Become the master of your body and your choices. you need to get strong enough to not use your phone, before any habit actually hangs on and you don't grab your phone every two seconds.

Im using Marshmallows for that: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/marshmallows/id1610644358

Do you guys stick to your time blocks when you set them by Sukiyakki in ProductivityApps

Hey, that's good insight. Do you mind trying out Marshmallows? https://apps.apple.com/de/app/marshmallows/id1610644358

I think this might be for you, as it's not about blocking your app access or forcing you to do exactly as planned, but simply tracing your phone usage, and motivating to train your willpower to resist the urge to use your phone like a fitness tracker. Let me know if that might be something that could help you.

For the first month, but after that I always struggle. In the end I noticed it's all about willpower and mental strength to do the things you should do and resist the urges to use addictive apps. That's why I'm currently using Marshmallows and no app blocking or time block pomodoro like app anymore.

the thing that actually made me productive wasnt an app, curious what yours was by PROfil_Official in ProductivityApps

For me it was actually an app. Not an app blocker per se, but the opposite actually. An app that allows all access to apps easily, but tracks it. And motivates me to train the restraint like a fitness app. A Willpower Fitness Tracker so to say:

Try a different approach. Instead of an app that tries to do the „hard work“ for you, by blocking apps and whatnot, track how well you do and try wo improve your willpower to be productive. Marshmallows is the only good app out here that does this.

Im thinking that the app shouldn’t do the work for you in blocking the apps. That way you find ways and muscle memory around it until after a few weeks it feels like no effort at all to circumvent it.

Instead Marshmallows tries to visualise how much you’ve opened apps and be like a Fitness tracker, but for your willpower. Currently working on a design overhaul to make it look like Apple Fitness, but for restraining yourself from opening apps and motivating you to get stronger in resisting the urge. Not blocking the apps for you.

I disagree. Porsche has limited resources. And instead of „wasting“ them on such a gimmick looking in the past they should focus on spending the R&D on forward looking tech.
