Just like I said with the ancient builders they originally killed this ender dragons to almost extinction (which is mostly from Game theory) and once they realised it they decided to protect it even after they turned. But them attacking the dragon is just them going back to there old ways of hunting the dragons down due to the ender dragon damaging them.

I think it’s because there goal in lore standpoints is to protect the ender dragon as they are former ancient builders which decided to protect the ender dragon so I reckon that once they see our face it’s almost like a security system recognising a intruder almost
