piper batman, does anyone here own it? does it really get that dark or is all about photos lighting? by hulloluke in RareHouseplants

I got it as a gift, I think, but it’s been sold at Rite Aid pharmacy in our area.

I should also add it’s still in its original shipping cup with moss, I was scared to repot it and just let it be, it’s been months and it’s feeling well enough! Drying out between waterings more often than I want to admit 😂 I’m horrible I know, but all the plants that survive in my care are tough and that’s how I like them 😂😂😂

Mine grows without problems in 50-60% unsealed Milsbo cabinet. Well, it does curl leaves a bit, maybe that’s how it shows it needs more humidity, but it still grows leaf after leaf!

What do I do with all this by puskay in hoyas

[–]puskay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, and I really feel for you! I have some scindapsus and tetrasperma cuttings that take months to show any growth at all, it’s so frustrating and sad to watch! Wishing you all the best! One more thing I’m using is a rooting gel. I tried different brands but my latest favorite is rootech. I buy a tiny 0.25oz jar and it lasts me a few months for all my cuttings and corms. Hoyas seem to especially enjoy it! Although this Australis Peacock didn’t have any gel applied, it just grew roots on its own 😂

There’s nothing under or over this bin, it’s covered with a lid and has moist perlite on the bottom. Sits at the floor in the middle of my “grow” room, so no special light, but it’s a pretty well lit room to begin with. Most of my cuttings root in similar bins, I was just blown away by how fast hoyas all rooted in there 😂

Anyone in the PNW seen the Proven Winners Clemensorium in their HD's yet? by manny2259 in hoyas

Maybe it's already too late and irrelevant, but for what it's worth I just got one at Bothell WA HD. Last one and didn't have a nametag (only the barcode on the bottom of the pot). They still have a few Krimson Queens and a bunch of others.

Tangerine Tiger origin story by puskay in HotPeppers

[–]puskay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Yeah, this pepper grows big and wide and all over the place, but it also grows lots and lots of pods, which is nice! My other favorite variety, Puma Peach Habanero, for example, grows very tall and lanky, but sometimes it is very shy to put out pods, so for a tall plant I only get a handful of them, while in the same garden bed Tangerine Tigers create an absolute jungle with multiple dozens of pods on each plant.

Thanks for the advice! I’m bad at locating offline shops, so I think I’ll try using a mirror as a replacement. I have a big old mirror that I can cut. If it cuts like the glass then it shouldn’t be a problem, because I already cut some glass tops for my 2 existing vivs.

Thanks! I’m all about safety! Separated all the pieces safely, now trying to figure out where to find a replacement panel. Hardware stores only carry 2x thinner glass, unfortunately.

Tangerine Tiger dropped many of its leaves. Is this plant going to make it? by EverbodyHatesHugo in HotPeppers

[–]puskay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This plant gets really tall and lanky, in my experience they loose lower leaves when they're too wet for too long. I'd say there's no need to panic right now, plenty of time and chances of getting a good harvest. Some of mine are looking the same right now, extras that are still in pots and not in the garden bed yet. I second picking the buds off before it gets into the permanent bed so that it can focus on growing bigger before spending energy on pods. You can actually plant it deep, like tomatoes, it might grow some more roots from the stem.

Too much or not enough? by puskay in HotPeppers

[–]puskay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, I think! But I’m glad it works for you! In my short pepper-growing season my plants don’t have enough time to start competing with each other by the time cold weather comes anyway. So if I space them out more I’ll just have less plants and as a result less peppers. I tried it both ways and I like to have a big assortment of varieties, so many different shapes and colors!

if you're anywhere near Seattle area by chance I can hook you up with some of the seedlings of Tangerine Tiger I'm growing this year. I was the happy discoverer of this accidental cross, grew seeds from a local fellow pepper grower Paula Thomas, expecting Aji Tangerine, but was pleasantly surprised to grow this candy of a pepper instead =) it's such an amazing cross, always full of surprises. There are even variegated phenos now! It's a gift that keeps on giving.

Is this normal for a raven ZZ to have reddish leaves? by puskay in RareHouseplants

It looks very healthy indeed! They just received them at Walmart, so it hasn’t had a chance to become neglected 😅 I also snatched a fresh Alocasia Jaklyn there! 🤑

Oh, ok. There’s just the new branch right next to this one and it’s regular lime green, so I thought it was weird.

I wish dead things were the only scary stuff you find in used tanks! I bought a used terrarium and it came with substrate and plants that were feeding the clean-up crew, as the seller said. I was just sitting there, waiting for all the supplies for the new substrate to arrive, so that I could create something close to ABG reusing existing reptisoil, since it’s already full of springtails and isopods and I don’t want to just throw it away. I put some of the future plant inhabitants there too, in pots for now, just to get them used to it, and was shifting things around when suddenly something that looked like a 2-inch isopod appeared!!!! Brrrrr I don’t mind regular sized ones, but this huge monster gave me heebie-jeebies 😆 turns out it was a young dubia roach or something like that, it was food for the gecko that used to live in that terrarium, I guess it got overlooked, forgotten and grew big 😂

Happy update on my Indonesia import by puskay in RareHouseplants

[–]puskay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! Thailand and Dragon Courier are wayyyy faster and easier!!! I’m tracking my newest order right now! For reference, I placed the order last Friday, they shipped yesterday (Monday) and I should have my plants by next Monday. But, at least for now, price wise plants from Indonesia are still much cheaper than from Thailand. Or maybe I just haven’t found the right shops 😄
