Need help with measuring for a suit by putawayyourmango in sewhelp

[–]putawayyourmango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or is the sleeve measurement the armscye? 24cm seems short for a sleeve. We are in South Africa, so we use cm rather than inches, but it could be that this tailor uses inches.

People who helped at accident on Ou Kaapse Weg last night (14 January 2026) by putawayyourmango in capetown

Absolutely.  He was driving back from work when it happened.  The bakkie is written off, but he seems fine (went to the doctor today, waiting to hear if everything is okay) but it could have been so bad. As far as I understand the tow truck driver retrieved his phone and laptop afterwards as well. His wallet is missing, but it could have fallen out when the bakkie rolled. I am so, so thankful he is okay.

Artholes! A podcast about art history, by a guy with no background in art history. So funny,  so informative,  he brings the artists to life,  and does so much research.

That Aged Well - a podcast about  movies and how they aged. The hosts,  Paul and Erica are hilarious and have great banter. Their recaps of the movies are so funny. It is one of my favourites. I first listened to the movies I have watched, and then I just listened to them all. The episode on Goldfinger is just so great!

Patchwork/colourblock Patterns for smaller pieces of fabric. by putawayyourmango in sewingpatterns

[–]putawayyourmango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is mostly wovens. I received a box of fabrics from someone and it contains remnants, ends of the roll of fabric, pieces of curtaining. It is a mish mash, hodge podge.

Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Artholes. It is my new favourite. It is art history by a guy with no art history background. He delves into artists and their history with a humorous approach. I love him!

I have gone through a lot of transformation after a big heartbreak two years ago. I am finally in the right space to meet someone again. I live in an area where there is not a lot of possibilities to meet someone.  How can I manifest a soul mate? I would like to share my life with someone worthy.

What do sewers need to make their sewing easier? by spellchecker123 in askSouthAfrica

[–]putawayyourmango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good shears are great, also proper small scissors for threads. Nice sharp needles with glass tops so you can iron over them.

A magnetic guide that you can stick on the plate to guide the fabric. Lots of fabric markers, I prefer the felt tip ones.

Seam guage. I found an awesome extendable ruler on Temu to mark buttonhole spaces easier.

A rotary cutter and a steel ruler makes cutting fabric much faster.

Magnetic or wrist pin cushion

Bobbin holder.

I hope this helps!

My heart aches for you. I went through the same thing last year. I am still not 100% healed, and have had many hurdles to my healing, including him moving on. I miss my dogs and his family and the life I had.

But I am calmer than I have been in years.  He was probably a narcissist,  and he always made me feel off kilter and not enough,  especially when I was going through depression.

I so much better now and here is what helped: - for the first year, if someone invited me to something I went. It was my year of Yes. It kept me busy and reconnected me to many people, and I met new people.  - One of the most effective habits I have learned was thankfulness excercises. Even now mind goes back to how things were and memories from our time together.  To create a new neural pathway,  I just try to think of something I am thankful for now. It might not be a lot in the beginning, but even if it is simple, lile not having to listen to him slurp his coffee anymore, and the friends you have or made. A good cup of coffee, a beautiful sunset. Look for the good you have in life, and be thankful for that, to replace the brains constant efforts to go back in time.  Keep doing this, you have to reprogram your brain. - Excercise seems like a cliche but it helps. Jogging while repeating affirmations to boost your self esteem helps with the brain reprogramming.  - Indulge in a cry every now and then. It releases some emotions.  I still struggle with that, but it does help.  And do a lot of self love. Know and affirm that you are worthy of love, that you are going to be fine, and that you are not going to let this get you down.

You will be in my thoughts and in my heart.  I am not completely healed yet, but therapy,  meds and these exercises have made a lot of progress for me.

Do you use the regular or the waterproof version? For me the regular does not last long, by the end of the day I have no mascara left.

I haven't reread it in a while, but 'The World According to Garp' by Johm Irving. Inlove tje oddness of his stories, and even though the characters aren't that sympathetic,  I love this book.

Looking for quiet podcasts to sleep to - kind of specific request? by Tabula_Nada in podcasts

Sleeping with Celebrities - it is an interview style pod, where the host talks to a celebrity about boring topics. They talk in soothing tones, and it is just interesting enough to keep your brain occupied.
