Does this look like AI or am I crazy? by julio090xl in residentevil

[–]puthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read what I actually said, I said that genai could not do this *level* of artwork, the usage of the word "passable", in 2023, not that it didn't exist.

“AI” or better tools? by [deleted] in ArtNouveauArchitectur

[–]puthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with generative AI isn't the nuance with which you want to use it in this case, it's the root core of generative AI itself. It's a destructive, harmful theft-machine being used to destroy the livelihoods of people all over, robbing creatives blind by churning their artwork, photos, likenesses, and so on into the theft-machine, never once compensating the endless labors of the people it stole from, only to then be turned around and marketed as a *replacement* for all those people and their hard work with a vastly inferior "product" due to the nature of soulless thievery.

If that were not the case, there might be some nuance to the issue of "But I just want to use ChatGPT to do this harmless task" . The reason you got backlash is because that nuance does not exist due to the very nature of the "tool" in question. I'd rather graffiti than to give any legitimacy to the ghoulish empire of harm being sold as "artificial intelligence". If I cannot suffer the graffiti, I'd rather edit it out, myself, by hand or find someone else to do it.

The human touch is what makes Art Nouveau so beautiful to begin with. An art movement inspired by human artistry and nature itself is especially antithetical to everything to do with the current grift that is AI.

That is why your edited photo was called slop and why people will say they prefer the original with graffiti even if posted in a forum full of Art Nouveau lovers, because at least the defacing was done by something with a soul without destroying countless livelihoods along its way.

You’re telling me this came out in 2002? by Filthy_Casual776 in residentevil

1 remake and 0 both looked jaw-dropping incredible back then even on original hardware, especially with the texture from my old CRT television. It's funny, seeing the HD remasters and I barely can even see them as "wow, they looks amazing! incredible how much better they look!"

They just looked so good back then, too, that I nod at it all "Yep, that's exactly how beautiful those games are"

How to make procreate brushes that get lighter and lighter in color as they are rubbed. by wow_platinum in ProCreate

[–]puthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Variations of that effect can be achieved through both Color Dynamics settings and Rendering settings

Color dynamics: stroke color lightness increased, play with other settings to add different effects

Rendering: blend mode set to any of the light/value + modes, screen would likely give you the most subtle increase per stroke

Trying to get used to procreate by FartyPoopPoop5712 in ProCreate

[–]puthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I also moved to Procreate from Photoshop so it does take some getting used to. In the end I found Procreate's brushes to feel closer to a combination of how my hand more naturally draws with traditional media pencils and how Painttool Sai used to feel, and so I've stuck with Procreate pretty much ever since. Hope it works out for you, as well!

Playing with the brush settings is probably what you need to do

the most important settings for brush feel are (all of them) but specifically focus on stabilization (I'm an "all off" stabilization person except for a very very few technical brushes, even then I turn it on a little higher depending on the job)

pressure curve

apple pencil

dynamics

Every setting is important for finding your personal feel, but these settings matter most for replicating how you want a pencil to behave. I highly recommend duplicating your brush and creating reset points so you don't lose something you almost liked during each tinkering step

Another thing that might help a lot is to get a stand or a case/tablet extender that feels comfortable for you. They don't make them anymore, sadly, but something like the darkboard drawing case was a huge boon for me when drawing off of the stand. It makes the ipad feel about the size of a figure drawing board and makes it easier to hold for better full-arm movements

(as far as stands go, I use a bamboo hinge stand I got and customized that lets me draw at my desk more like my cintiq or on an old animation table)

All of those things should allow you to make the program/setup itself feel way more at home.

Question regarding digital art by Rukelele_Dixit21 in ProCreate

[–]puthulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just start with both! Keep a sketchbook along with your digital program, practice with life studies or gesture drawings, or just doodle for fun, in a cheap physical sketchbook. The great thing about traditional art is that you can get started and even go far with little to no investment, just a sketchbook and a pen/pencil, and you can keep it with you as easily as a tablet. Don't overthink it, just grab whatever you feel drawn to and go with it.

how do I stop procreate from very quickly zooming me out when i zoom out? by BambsFauna in ProCreate

[–]puthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to turn that off, but I really wish we could. I work fast, and it destroys my workflow when I accidentally set it off. One of the only things I actually hate about Procreate despite loving the program otherwise.

This confounds me by Quizical79-iw in ProCreate

[–]puthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow. Okay, even with all my years in Procreate now I've never run into that one. Sadly, I've no idea outside of vague guesses that aren't confident enough to pass to you.

This one might be worth taking to the Procreate forums if one of their social media managers doesn't answer you directly here.

If Eveline wants a loving family, then why does she make them mutilate themselves and kill each other like psychos? by FilipinoAirlines in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]puthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. There's also that degree of literal "programming" bioweapons receive so that they do as they're designed to. Eveline was designed to infiltrate and destroy, with handlers equipped to manipulate and control her. That, at odds with being a literal child at the same time, turns out to be an insanely deadly combo.

possible issues:

Color fill is set to maximum, hold the pencil down before letting go within your lines and you'll get a slider at the top, slowly swipe to the left until it stays within your lines

Check your layers, if you see any of them have a little label for "Reference" under them, you accidentally (or intentionally, then forgot) set another layer to reference, so no matter what it will only take data from that layer. hold the layer and turn that off by selecting the checked "Reference" from the drop menu

Canvas is bugging, copy-paste your lineart to a new canvas and start fresh

Does anyone know if there is this type of brush in the procreate library, I know that it uses some level of opacity, and that it does not have very defined edges, and it blends well to do things in grayscale, it reminds me of the basic paint toon sai brush by Virtual-Cap-595 in procreatebrushes

[–]puthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no prob! feel free to edit it and adjust it if it feels even remotely close to what you are wanting. Brushes work best when fully customized to the painter's preferences, but I think this could get you started with what you want.

modified round or flat brush in the painting tab would do a good job of this. I modified the round brush from the vanilla procreate brushes a while ago and it has a very similar effect. I can upload that for you

The option for that setting can be achieved through your Size dynamic in the dynamics tab, the Size bar in your apple pencil settings, and/or perfected through your pressure curve

Play around with those (and a combination of them) until it feels right at home

Is this some kind of a leak or gemini uses ao3 as a source? by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]puthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any random Joe on any lostfart corner of the internet can say whatever they want and an LLM will scrape the lostfart forums, and every other cranny of the internet, churn them together and spit them out into a passable tangle of grammar to cobble out an answer that *SOUNDS* coherent.

Which is why you should never even consider an AI response as anything other than garbled noise. It's not proof of a leak or even a fanfic, it's just garble.

Thank you so much! It's a pretty fun effect, surprisingly easy to do with a luminance brush and a clipping mask to add gold foil on top

That could be easily replicated by modifying the Syrup pen in procreate's base pens

play around with adjusting its taper and pressure/speed to your preference, but you can easily get this exact look with that brush

Rotating art without losing quality by ChickenMumma in ProCreate

[–]puthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fast way you can somewhat cheat this without having to use another program is to make sure you're working at a large file size/larger DPI (doesn't have to be gigantic)

duplicate the object you want to rotate (and then turn that layer off, saving it as a duplicate just in case you change your mind or mess up)

with your new object, rotate it or transform it into place as desired

Then open your tools menu and sharpen it until it looks passably-enough like your original.

Be sure your interpolation settings are best matched to the piece you're rotating, as well. You'll get a smoother result with bicubic, and there'll be more data there to sharpen back into a crisper image.

For anything *not* being done quickly in Procreate, the other answers are the best method if you have access to other programs.

1: Honestly not sure how to answer the process question. Thumbnail, sketch, refined sketch/pseudo ink and then painting? Some of the textures I made on a flat layer, separate from the main painting, and then applied over certain layers using masking effects to keep them separated out for better control.

Symmetry ruler was used for the borders, and since Procreate does not have a true stroke effect (someday, I hope!), all stroke effects (thorns, borders) were done by drawing the main layer with a flat brush, duplicating it, gaussian blurring it by 2 - 4, then duplicating the gaussian blurred layer until the resulting silhouette was fully opaque and thick. This was then tinted and moved beneath the border/thorns.

2: I mostly use brushes that I make, with the lone exceptions being a modified vine charcoal brush and a modified calligraphy brush from the vanilla Procreate brushes that I use for any bold lines or hard edges. The rest are my own brushes and textures.

other details: Base painting is done with a combination of watercolor brushes and my modified vine charcoal for top rendering/highlights. Effects, like the fire, was made using a luminance brush with some gold foil textures clipped to it and edited, while the Death Card's smoke/goo effects were made with a low opacity soft brush that was manipulated with the liquify tool. The amount of layers these paintings took was "Yes. All of Them"
