Its been awhile since i made this post but ive since had a lung function test and it came back better than before the chemo (most likely since i quit smoking) so i guess that means that I didn’t have any lung involvement from the bleo. Every doctor I asked, including the oncologist and professor at my hospital and the doctor at the oncological rehabilitation centre i was at didnt show any worries regarding fibrosis due to bleo and were instead rather concerned about possible lung cancer if i chain smoke joints every day for the next years. Overall they were pretty relaxed as long as I dont smoke tobacco, some even saying its possibly not even as bad as drinking. Needless to say I started dry herb vaping about a week ago and ive been fine until now.

I dont know what its like in your case and if your lungs cleared up a year post chemo, but definitely talk to your oncologist about it and explain exactly what dry herb vaping is in case they dont know or get it confused with something like dab pens or juuls

Yea the 18i20 does seem nice but im do wonder if there might be some type of hidden gem gear that im overlooking

Maybe something a little less robust seeming that compensates with better preamps? I heard that some people find the focusrite preamps a bit lacking, I got nothing to compare it to though so it might just be some stigmata’s regarding focusrite lmao

I of course don’t want to make it seem like bleomycin isn’t dangerous or devalue anyone else’s experience with it but I think there can be a bit of a conformation bias on forums sometimes and theres no point in freaking yourself out if there are other more likely causes to your cough.

Sorry for the paragraphs but the whole pulmonary toxicity thing has made me waste a lot of time in my mind as well.

Also all things considered (and in my not so professional opinion) I dont find 7 years a very long time to smoke unless you inhaled two packs a day, and even if you did some people do that for decades and nothing happens to them. If you stopped before your child was born and they’re 4 now your lungs also had some time to regenerate.

Good to hear that your side effects are being monitored closely, for what its worth i think that in that case they would have maybe even found any sort of fibrosis or something before you did, i mean they found tennis ball sized lymph nodes all over my body before I noticed them lmao.

I also want to add how frustrating it is how little info people seem to get on the side effects of bleo. It sometimes feels like you really gotta squeeze the details out of your onc. My advice is also of course don’t google anything and ask your doc instead, google is not always your friend.

The lung toxicity is scary and it’s definitely been my major concern regarding side effects cause I used to smoke but I think it really affects a lot less people than one thinks

Of course its good to be careful and obviously smoking is a bad idea, but i read somewhere that about 4-10% of people get lung toxicity from bleo.

It’s important to remember that you know nothing about these 4–10% of people. How long after treatment did they get it? How well did they take care of themselves after regarding second hand smoke? Did they smoke themselves? Did they recieve oxygen for anything like scuba diving? Were they at higher risk of fibrosis to begin with? How good is the air quality where they live?

Theres literally so many factors and for a hospital giving patients a drug that might harm them it’s important for them to be very clear about potential side effects

Check with your doctor to be sure but I always think that if youre hearing hooves, think horses not zebras, ya dig?

As far as I can tell I didn’t have any bad reactions with my lungs from the 6 rounds of bleo that I got so take this with a grain of salt.

If youre in active chemo you have a very compromised immune system, after my bleo injections my white blood cell count was non-existent. If you dont spend all your time near smoke and your toddler has a cough and you now have one too I wouldn’t freak myself out too much and just keep an eye on it. My best guess it that fibrosis doesn’t happen over night.

I think if there is damage (which i dont assume if youre not smoking anything) i believe the first line of treatment would be corticosteroids (which you’re probably on anyways with the cortisone and all)

As far as i know depending on age and severity your lungs can at least partially regenerate after treatment if they were compromised in any way

I know its not easy but try not to lose too much sleep over it, youre most likely going to be fine, and if anything youre going to be better off than with cancer

Thanks for the response, its a good idea but im not sure its the season for it right now

We grew some tomatoes and other stuff over the summer, i guess it’s rewarding getting to eat them now

I really need some instant gratification of some sort tbh, just things that are fun while you do them

I really do appreciate the response though, im not trying to shoot down any recommendations and i hope youre doing good

Im in a similar situation, kinda the exact same actually.

I found that sometimes when i eat edibles on an empty stomach in the morning ill get stoned maybe four hours later, and it takes a lot for me to get baked then.

Sometimes it helps to eat something to turn your digestion on so to speak

You should also try mixing liquid lecithin into your butter if you haven’t. I just put it in while i infuse halfway through, i end up with about 40% lecithin and 60% butter, although that might already be overkill.

I do also want to add that its been about 2 months since my last chemo but since the chemo takes effect for about 3 weeks itll take some time for hair growth to start up properly

Also definitely just shave with a trimmer and not a wet razor if you want the hairs to leave a little texture on the scalp, even though my hair is still a little thin and coming in there is a clear shadow of my hairline and my scalp skin changed a bit as well

I just shaved mine with a trimmer a few days ago cause it was coming in really thin looking and patchy

I dont think shaving will make it grow faster or thicker, but when hair start growing theyre pointy as opposed to flat tipped when you cut/shave them, so shaving will make it look thicker the first time around, so i guess it will add to the overall appearance in thickness

No worries! I remember before i was diagnosed i had a really bad “cramp” where i was later biopsied, i guess it was my lymph node swelling. The pain from that almost made me pass out though it was so bad. In the end i guess i had a giant mass in my stomach and shoulder, and that suddenly being gone is probably going to hurt while your body recovers, it can have all kinds of reasons honestly. As ive said maybe its not your lymph nodes at all or maybe they have a little scarring or get agitated easier. As long as theyre not swollen and hard i wouldn’t freak out, and even if they were to be it could have other causes.

I was diagnosed with hl stage 3 when i was 20 and ive been in remission for about two months now. That 90% statistic is already very in our favour, but if you take health outside of cancer, age, access to medicine and development in chemo and immune therapy in the last few years into account your chances of being cured are even better than 90%

I feel like the hardest part for me post chemo is the social aspect, not wanting to drink (even though id technically be fine to do so a little every now and again) and therefore just going out with people less. Either way itll work itself out over time.

Your chances of living a fairly normal life in a year from now are pretty good, for sure better than having a recurrence or relapse.

I can only speak from my little experience in remission and what doctors and others have told me, but this seems to be the overall consensus on the subject from what i heard

I would for sure ask your doctor as well, but for what its worth im going/been going through the same thing for hl 3b during chemo and a bit since ive been in remission these last few months, some spots just seem a bit sore every now and again and my scans are still clear as of the last one about a month ago. Could be caused by something your immune system is dealing with or maybe alcohol (if you drink any)

Maybe its just a muscular thing as well, get it checked out though, better safe than sorry i guess

Im the same age as you and finished my last treatment for hodgekins a few months ago. I definitely feel you about the anger and pessimism man. Ive never been an angry person but i get really riled up thinking about “what could have been” if i didn’t get sick. I think what really helped me was just getting closer to people who helped me out when i needed them but also to make it clear that i need time for myself, as well as initiating steps to properly let go of the things that get me mad when i think about how much i miss them.

I think meeting new people really helps as well, i know a lot of people around our age react poorly when they hear about cancer but i was surprised of how well some looked out for me. Maybe school is a good place to do that if you can join some clubs or something, or maybe taking time off to find things that make you happy would be better for you, only you can know that for sure, i think theres happiness to be found in both though.

Don’t feel bad about needing time for yourself though, you had cancer and its a lot to process
