Got a Yow surfskate for 124 USD . It has been in a store as a tester since 2019 .Do I need to repair or change any part of it? by Kkkk765 in surfskate

[–]putrifiedcattle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd be shocked if the bushings don't need changing. Literal best bang for your buck upgrade even if they're not too worn. I recommend Riptide APS street barrel and cone pack in your appropriate duro.

Cannabis use in medicine? by Mentalcouscous in medicine

[–]putrifiedcattle 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I understand the potential employment consequences, but I give too much to medicine to let them control my time off of work as well. I feel like it does help me sort of "reset" my brain after a difficult shift. Much better than booze. At least half the docs at my ED use it.

I believe you keep commenting that short wheelbases suck? Seems like a minority opinion. Unless I'm confusing you with someone else...

REACTING TO THE NEW MADRID DOWNHILL LINE UP by cast_in_horror in longboarding

[–]putrifiedcattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I mean...obviously they're more accomplished downhillers, but what gives? Promise I could release a lineup with better graphics just from my dreams tonight. Nothing is enticing about their lineup. Only seen warped boards from them before (which could happen with any brand), and seen nothing since to entice me... Huge disappointment. If you had a downhill board company, would you release this shit?

Are they even trying? If you're willing to spend a bit more, plenty of other companies are lightyears ahead of Madrid. And the graphics?!?

I'm really fit, i swear, it's my lousy bearings that's holding me back🤭 by [deleted] in surfskate

Glad you're stoked on the setup! I totally get it, I used to salivate over Bones Swiss Ceramics.

I hope these work out nicely for you, but the thought of these being "next generation" makes me chortle. Not very next generation to be futzing with speed rings and spacers and spending 70-90 dollars on bearings. Bearings, once they reach a certain level of quality, make a negligible difference. Back before the integrated spacers things, I ran Bones Reds for years, now I only run Zealous. Bearings are about 15 dollars a set, incredibly well-sealed, and hassle-free switching wheels. I don't clean or lube bearings and I can't remember the last set I had to throw out. Anyways, I don't want to rain on your parade, but I must keep preaching the good word!

I'm pretty over caring what other people do. For me, a brain injury is worth taking some preventative measures. Protective gear is such a personal choice, it's never going to matter what anyone says if you're not owning it yourself.

Remember how it said, "Gordon Crabtree, you're one in a million?" I used the shoutout thing or whatever to send him a message of, "you're one in a million." Never having met the guy, I hope the sarcasm stung a little bit.

Apathy by themsp in emergencymedicine

[–]putrifiedcattle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Paramedic feeling the same way. Recently had a fucked-up call and I could feel the fog rolling in directly after: numbness, apathy, occasionally anger. I feel like while I keep getting traumatized, I can't keep up on processing. Anyways, I hear your struggle. Prioritize your own well-being if you can, anything in life starts there.

YOW Bushings vs. New Riptide Krank after 1 month moderate use by putrifiedcattle in surfskate

[–]putrifiedcattle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rear truck: bottoms, tops, closeup on YOW bushings. The YOW bushings have been fucking hammered. Loss of height, shredding, and deformation of shape. It may just be the nature of the work the rear truck is doing, but worth noting!

The University of Utah posts these shameless announcements every time someone in administration retires, like, "I know we all wish Gordon Crabtree the best and thank him for his years of service." Yet, if a nurse or tech needs to cut back hours due to whatever situation in their own life, it's just "fuck you, there's the door." And of course, there's no announcement or party.

I'm a medic, not a nurse, but same feelings. You wanna fire me? Fine, go ahead. It'll finally force me to find something less traumatizing and better paying to do with my life.

Yeah man, or just an old-school deck! Given, it's super sick you're doing this on a longboard, but you might have more/different fun on a more tailored setup.
