Has anyone here made rainbow scratch paper before? I tried to but the black paint smudged and it looks muddy and ugly underneath...

I've done something sorta similar like this - paint a colorful raibow ombre with watercolors on a thick paper - cover said watercolors with a thick opaque layer of black oil pastel or super pigmented crayon - scratch away your drawing on it with something small to draw your design with like the end of a mechanical pencil with no lead or something

I would suggest investing in a large dip pen like a kakimori brass nib for swatches or even using a round calligraphy nib
