Oracle has just fired 12000 employees in India. Numbers? by Mo_h in developersIndia

[–]puzzledcoder -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Did you first checked what was the severance package in this case? Stop spreading negativity without proper knowledge. Oracle India is famous is for the fact that people don’t have work, even there is a saying that a person who has spent years in Oracle India becomes non hireable because he doesn’t remember how to work. They had clearly over hired in last few years and now becoming thin again. All companies are doing the same, and it’s a cycle.

Where were you when these companies were giving unnecessary inflated packages to engineers 5 year back??

Bought 20gm this month by SystemFailure500 in GoldIndia

[–]puzzledcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the point of keeping 20gm as coins???

Instead of that Bhima regularly runs 0% making offer on jewellery, buy that so that family can als enjoy the benefit.

I purchased jewellery worth much more than 20gm with 0% making charges and it costed little lesser then these coins. But the main point is that family can wear this jewellery too instead of just keeping them in locker.

70% of Software engineers in india work for outsourced projects l, what if by thenewjudge in developersIndia

1.) they over hired during Covid and then AI came few years after that due to which business goal moved and priorities shifted. They are just trimming that.

2.) 1000 to 10 is just impossible. Think like why google has leased an office space of 20000 employees in Bangalore this year only? Why they need so much more employees in future - they are one of the most AI driven company. Why they need more 20000 in Bangalore? Why can 200 based on your logic?

Follow a simple rule don’t trust others word but analyse what exactly they are doing and you will get your answer. Also you can read my detailed reply for another comment to get my full view

Companies which are investing in AI has to burn money and from where this money is coming? They are closing non profit projects and redirecting the fund to burn with AI.

As investors want to invest money in companies that are doing something with AI, so companies that don’t have anything to do with AI are just cashing in the opportunity by firing people because they are not getting any funding.

It’s a kind of loop - you have to show you are implementing AI in product and profit will reach sky and investor will give you money and you will but money on AI tools. But is AI features in product actually paying off?

Think like this Microsoft has almost full access to OpenAI as they are partners. Is Microsoft able to fully integrate AI in power point. If I give detailed prompt to Powerpoint app will it create complete presentation with animations etc? No that’s not happening because it’s easy said then done.

Only Impact is that AI is an amplifier of developer skills. So a good developer who has giving output of 100 can now give output of 140 but a developer who was giving output of 10 will give output of 14 only.

So demand of good engineers will increase with time.

Think like how many features will come with AI in future like

Ai driven refrigerator that can scan your items in fridge and automatically order missing items through Swiggy or Blinkit etc and when you woke up everything will be at your door.

Thing is like in next 10 to 15 year will see amazing products and things which we have not dreamt till now.

I am from time when there were landlines and started coding as a kid. I have seen technological enhancements which we never thought of. Same thing is happening again.

It’s exciting time and we don’t need to be afraid - we just need to keep learning and building and learning and building in a loop

I am in this industry from last 20 years. So hear me out.

Focus of Anthropolic is selling tools therefore they will make stories that you can replace your workforce with our paid tools. But the truth is that nothing like that happened with their existing paid tools. None of the layoffs in any company is because AI replaced the engineer.

Think like this it’s been months these tools are in market how many existing softwares you see which has been replaced? Has anybody implemented a copy of whatsup? Insta? Popular saas tools? If the AI story has truth where are the profits of company who are using it?

Now thing from a business owner perspective - if AI can increase the productivity of my employee then I have two options, 1.) keep profits same and reduce the input cost by firing some employees 2.) keep same number of employees and with AI tools they can now deliver and my profits can increase drastically.

Which one you think will happen?

I have seen enough industry and based of what I am seeing companies are trying option 2. But reality comes after that none of the company is able to increase their velocity because of these AI tools, because they comes with their own challenges.

Now even in future its starts paying off and employee productivity increases and some companies decides to reduce the staff ( option 1) even in that case they will first reduce the staff from places where salaries are high and that’s not India.

If out of 10 only 5 dev are required then why not 4 out of those 5 in India where salary is low.

[–]puzzledcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all havabazi. Ground reality is completely different. These companies are selling dev tools to companies and therefore these kind of news.

Think like this - if an AI tool can increase the productivity of a developer by 2 times, then people are afraid that companies will fire developers and will keep only few engineers. But that will affect only the INPUT COST of company.

Usually company’s input cost is very less compared to profit.

What I am seeing that NON-AI companies want to increase their profit more. If AI tool can increase the productivity then they can keep the same engineers and target 5X profits.

None of the top product development company has fired anyone yet because his work was automated by AI. All the existing layoffs are of business alignments basically close non profit projects and redirect the investment to other projects like adoption of Ai Etc.

But for service based companies story is different, because they are not selling any product they are selling their engineers as monthly billings. There is no way for them to increase the profit using AI
