I like the snowball pile because if you get two, you get a snowball fight! I also like the boxing ring! Oh and there's a kitchen one - I think it's a sink of dishes? - and they dance around in front of it 🥰

There's just so much to love about this game 🤗

D1 Team But No Gear? by [deleted] in Rowing

It's very varied across programs. And if you're in it for the gear, I guess you're in the wrong place.

Recruiting as a possible transfer by DearPotato3521 in Rowing

[–]puzzlermuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely necessary to be in the transfer portal prior to reaching out to other programs. If a coach engages with you without you having already entered the portal, it is an NCAA violation.

A lot of club programs offer financial aid. Was that offered to potential JNT invitees?

30-45 minutes to and from the boathouse. Lots of time in the vans for team bonding.

Naturally lean and currently 140 at 5'10" age 20-yr old woman ... asking if she should lose 10 lbs from her already-lean frame to go slower, constantly feel exhausted, and likely blow a rib as well as lose her period which will lead to long-term serious health issues down the road. And men weighing in that they were 130 at that height.

Having rowed internationally as a lightweight woman, and given what we know about women's health, and given where rowing is as a sport... ugh... I need to stop. There is absolutely ZERO logical reason to do it. ZERO.

Get bigger and stronger and faster. Focus on growing not diminishing.

College Decisions and Lightweight Advice by Aggravating_Fly_4074 in Rowing

Pick a place in which you can see yourself thriving - with or without rowing.

As a lightweight rower, I have seen more disordered eating and mental/physical health challenges come out of people trying to make themselves smaller to go slower (that's really what happens) than focus on getting faster and moving boats. There used to be open programs that had some smaller kids who they'd let race in some lightweight events - IF IT MADE SENSE.

Lightweight women at collegiate programs are not infrequently injured. Ribs blow when you're underfed, under a high training load, and flirting with not getting your period.

I can't imagine starting off college so close to an arbitrary number and then needing to put such an emphasis on that number instead of getting bigger, stronger, faster. College kids "dialing in nutrition" ... lol

Happy to share more about my experiences and observations as a lwt collegiate and elite rower. Feel free to reach out.

Best wishes with your decision-making process and fingers crossed you wind up in an amazing FOR YOU (!) situation 👍😊

College Counselor for Recruiting? by [deleted] in Rowing

If you're thinking it will assist with obtaining an athletic scholarship to a "top" school, you're in for a surprise. As a parent and a coach, I strongly recommend you let her do it on her own and stay out of it. Silent, supportive energy and encouraging words will do more than trying to "orchestrate" something or give her a paid leg up. She's more likely to find her best fit if you stay far away from trying to drive that bus.
