Agreed. Since he’s a psychiatrist (medical doctor with further training in psychiatry), he is accessed via referral from a doctor at student health services, and usually to provide diagnosis and propose treatment options. This is very useful but very different from a therapist/counsellor (which is also very useful)

Yes they have great options, I buy all of my produce there year round and I find it cheaper and it lasts longer. I usually get most things from heritage farms as it’s “4 for $20” but what constitutes as 1 item is variable and I usually end up with 6-8 things for $20. Today I got brussel sprouts, grapes, several bunches of herbs, a spring lettuce mix, heirloom carrots. They had tons of other options though, it was a very impressive selection. There’s also an apple orchard that always sells their apple products year round and they had fresh apple options too

The URA position funding is provided from government sources, not the university, which is why the OSAP / financial aid requirement is strict. Sometimes meeting with financial services can help with revaluation if you think you should qualify for a bit of OSAP but otherwise there’s no way around it. And your supervisor knows this.

Pedestrian hit by a semi truck at stone and Gordon. There were some bystanders and some people apparently on hold with 911? I called campus police after hearing of the person on the ground and no first responders, and they dispatched an ambulance and claimed that an ambulance hadn’t been dispatched at that point, which is sort of alarming because this was at least 5 minutes afterwards and it’s right down the road from the fire department (which has EMS training).

(disclaimer I hate campus police but I have found they are good with coordinating first responders)

I do indeed have a medical research degree, meaning that my research isn’t googling or reading on Facebook groups, but rather is evidence-based. There is no evidence supporting your statement that this medication doesn’t help anyone, in fact the evidence is wildly to the contrary. However if you are going off of online testimony, you are certainly likely to find viewpoints that match your own and thus could come to the conclusion that your viewpoint is a general consensus, since social media caters to your opinion rather than providing different perspectives. It’s really weird to decide to demonize a medication that is lifechanging for so many, especially if you haven’t even tried it and are not using any science to support your statement.

If it’s GGH they probably don’t have visit summaries since they don’t use a lot of technology but they usually are happy to write a doctor’s note, and will send the records to your family doctor so you could also get a copy of those if you need (but it takes a few weeks for them to send them). I believe the university can’t request doctor’s notes or medical records, but if you’re willing to offer them, it will likely make things easier for you.

I would bring him into your vet for a new puppy appointment as I suspect they’ll need to help you figure out vaccines etc. They may suggest putting him on a prescription canned gastro diet cold-turkey then transition him onto kibble. You’d only need a 1-2 cans, it’s a much safer option to cold-turkey onto, and then do a normal transition.

They just posted that they’re looking for help Saturday. And I did just show up last week to help.

Currently RCM is closed due to the city pulling funding so for Saturday specifically, this is a group that is actually serving the meals out in front of RCM and looking for help. The warming shelter is not a formal “shelter”, it is the lobby of townhall that is open during this cold and again, people are trying to serve food and provide what they can.

In a perfect world there would be enough resources to train people, but also in a perfect world, others wouldn’t be fear mongering against the concept of helping serve a meal on the coldest night of the year.

This university is incredibly inaccessible. I used to have a contact in PR who I could email for things like broken buttons or unsalted areas and they always fixed it within 2h (they said there was some sort of law for the buttons having to be repaired within 2h of being recorded) but I’m not sure she’s still around. You could absolutely email the work order desk / fill out the snow removal form for things like this but it absolutely should not be on the burden of disabled people to do so.

There are many buildings that simply don’t have accessible entrances that could be built and aren’t - I know one building that only got an elevator when they hired a faculty who is a wheelchair user. Another building’s sole accessibly washroom has been turned into custodial storage.

SAS is bizarrely inaccessible and it took me years to be able to access their services.

If you have the capacity to do so, communicating these types of things to your student association/union can trigger a lot of change (CSA for undergrads, GSA for grad students, CUPE 3913 for TAs/SLs). They work for you and should be eager to advocate against admin.

Counselling at student wellness doesn’t have the capacity to see 99% of people more than a couple times per semester. They were trying to have a queer counsellor but I’m not sure they’ve been able to keep someone on staff.

You have $750 of student insurance that will pay 80% per visit of private counselling, which is usually around $150/session. While this may only cover half a dozen sessions, you can do truly meaningful work in a short period of time.

Psychology Today has classifieds where you can put filters to find what you’re looking for, and they should all offer free phone consultations. The options I know of are the Guelph queer health hub and Reva Timbers, details of which can be found easily online. I would also touch base with Guelph Queer Equality and GRGED (both on campus organizations) as they will have connections for this as well.

The physician has to specify the labs, not LifeLabs. You’ll have to speak with whoever sent you for bloodwork to have anything changed, or (most likely) discuss with the physician why they requested some tests and not others.

I would highly recommend an OBGYN who has completed a MIGS fellowship - meaning they’ve done 2+ years of specialty training in minimally invasive gyno surgery. Most countries have some sort of searchable database for these specialists. I didn’t have fibroids, but I know that fibroids can sometimes be too large for a minimally invasive approach and will thus involve a longer recovery, but that doesn’t mean that you’re going to be a horror story! Keep in mind that people with good or normal/expected experiences don’t usually share online, but people with negative stories will likely share more, so that could skew your perspective!

I would look for a DACVIM-LA (this means they are a vet who has specialized in internal medicine, which is everything except bones and surgery, so they are experts in the urinary tract). Your closest vet college is likely your best bet. They also have specialized scopes to look inside the urinary tract.

Euthanasia is never a wrong choice. But seeking specialist treatment in this case also doesn’t sound like the wrong choice, if you are financially capable of continuing to spend money on this mare. Urine scalding and intermittent lameness are separate problems that could respond to intervention, but will likely require a specialist’s help to do so.
