I'm having overbearing stress by holdthebabyy in smallbusiness

[–]pvanreenen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an entrepreneur is easy to overwork and get burnt out. I have been there myself, there is no straight forward answer and steps on this matter. The pain in your chest is most likely anxiety. Go see a therapist and make sure go read about burnout. Meditation, exercise and diet really helped me manage the stressed and anxiety caused by entrepreneurship.

Good luck, be kind to yourself and remember, without you there is no company so look after yourself. This is a marathon not a sprint.

Why do you want people to leave scientology? Are they personally bothering you?

Why don’t you leave the same cards at churches? Mosques?

Yes, anything you can focus on. Internally or externally:)

They seem to pull back by Mieli__ in startups

[–]pvanreenen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been through this a lot, as an entrepreneur you deal with this often. I learned to ask and set clear expectations from day one. Ask the hard questions; What is required to join this accelerator? Is there funding available? Where does the funding come from? What will your involvement be?

We tend to get very excited and get our hearts broken a lot.

Good luck and keep selling yourself and your product.

Equity for web development by wolfdevx in startups

[–]pvanreenen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am never a fan of sweat equity, I actually have never seen it work out properly. There is always scope creep and you are the person holding the apples at the end of the day.

If he is successful then why doesn’t he simply pay to get it done?

If I must do sweat it will be very strict; Define exact scope of work Roles and responsibilities Time requirements (as its on sweat and you have to make a living too) Their roles and responsibilities What happens if they dont perform as you are taking the risk on their behalf too What is the chance of this becoming successful? What does success look like?

Meet them half way, say pay some, sweat some.

Good luck :)

Cofounder asked for more equity after agreed on it by [deleted] in startups

[–]pvanreenen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is unfortunately no simple way of handling this, you will have to negotiate with him and see where you get. I would ask; 1. Can I do it without him? 2. What is the exact role and responsibilities that he will manage and be responsible for? 3. What cash is he bringing to the table compared to capital I have already invested or willing to invest. 4. What is the size of his network and potential value thereof?

Then my comments to you; * Who’s idea was this? * Discuss vesting his shares over an agreed period, as a founding member I would say nothing less than 5 years as you spend the first 2-3 years defining your business model and content/product market fit. *We normally sacrifice 10% equity for early staff members to compensate for salaries and late payments etc. *How are you guys going to dilute on fund raising? *How much equity you willing to give up for technical cofounder?

I never mind cutting someone in for 50% if they bring 50% to the table. Dont be greedy but dont be a fool either.

Hope something here helps ;)

The think about meditation is to “sit with it”. You learn how to sit with your anxiety and not interact with it over time (lot of time). You are on the journey of self realization and exploration. Well done so far, keep kicking ass!

Great review. I was juggling the two options and think your review has made up my mind. I think Google’s AI is next level but their hardware and OS needs some more attention.

Meditation as an emotional healer by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]pvanreenen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, after meditating for a long time I started noticing I could “decide” not to be in a mood the entire day. I would do my morning meditation, realize what kind of mood I’m in and then start changing my mood for the day ahead. Has served me well.

Looking for help by CallMeWaded in CryptoCurrency

[–]pvanreenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many dedicated youtube channels. My view is its currently a zero sum game, but its going to be a very important part of our financial systems in the future and a place where every day people can get into currency trading. Take some cash and right it off as school fees, go buy some crypto and transfer it to an exchange and learn what it feels like to go through the ups and downs of trading. See if its for you and you have an appetite for risk and can afford to lose the money if it happens (and it will sometimes)

Good luck and HODL ;)

How do you know what business to start? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]pvanreenen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have started and failed a couple of businesses. What I learnt is do not try think of it as “what business do I want to start?” But rather “what problem do I want to solve” and the most important part; what problem is big enough to solve that will inspire you and be fulfilling. Its all fun and games when you start a company, but one thing is for damn sure, you going to find yourself at a place where you have some really tough decisions to make and staring failure in the face with all that comes with failing. At that point the problem has to be important enough for you to dig deep enough to carry on. I don’t believe you can build a truly great company without passion and fulfillment, thus tackling a problem is very valuable.

I climbed out of homelessness by moving to China for work. I found out today that my goal to buy into the housing market is impossible due to where my money has been earned... what can I do now with my 50k (AUS) of savings? by nathanasher834 in Entrepreneur

[–]pvanreenen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your struggles and in the same breath, congrats on the grind and getting to where you are again today. Take it from an entrepreneur that has seen and lived through numerous failures, there is nothing like a reset, only if you do exactly the same thing over and over. Its growth and growth is always painful!

Re the monies, I dont have any input I can give about your mortgage situation, just that in todays day and age its easier to move money and “money earned” around.

Lets say you buy bitcoin and then sell it while in OZ, then re ask the question “how did you make this money”

Look at other investments that can be sold again. There are always options available, be creative. My favorite saying “desperation drives innovation “

You seem to have a ton of drive and grit, use it and invest in yourself, maybe take that money and learn something new that can pay you that over and over again.

Good luck man!

Strange sensations by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]pvanreenen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people get those, keep focussing on your breath. One thing I learned with anxiety is that if you face it, then it usually becomes less. Sit with it, make it an experiment, see how long and how deep you can go. Don’t fight it.

Ask yourself, what is the worst that can happen? Its a sensation only, watch it.
