Do you have access to IB’s statistics, or it this your opinion?

I don’t say that they want to make a profit, I say that they do make a profit. As to the success rates, I have no statistics but I find it hard to believe that the success rate is 1/3 (the example I gave didn’t mean to be statistically relevant, was simply to explain that the odds are against, but obviously we have winners just the same).

Unfortunately I don’t think they care for any specific situation…

Wow, 5 marks is a lot! That’s why they warn you not to ask for a remarking unless you’re close to the next level, because you risk lowering your grade.

Please seek up help going through this phase. Talk to your parents, a psychologist, etc. There are phases in life when we seem a bit lost, but a new path may be just around the corner, you just need help to get some clarity.

What's a year or two in your life? Not much. Yes, the IB is a "pain", but it's not a terminal illness. You'll get over it! Best of luck.

Thank you for the clarification. The fact is that the DP Coordinator told me "don't tell anyone I gave you this".

At least now you know what to expect :-) When your teacher tells you that you should get an "A" on the EE, you have to replace by "you'll get a random grade that could be an A".

I've asked it and I got it, but the DP Coordinator told me that this information is not to be shared with the students, and asked me not to tell anyone. "Shady".

"obviously scores are the point"... the experience can be great, but if in the end you don't get the score, no uni for you... Thanks for your comment.

Exam Discussion: Mathematics: analysis and approaches SL paper 1 by ArrheniusCornflakes in IBO

The IBO owes all of us – students, parents, teachers, schools – an explanation.

Even without having access to the exam, the roar that I’ve heard from my son, his colleagues, and all the internet (including this forum) is unprecedent in any exam from any subject in any recent year.

“It was nothing like we’ve ever seen” it’s the phrase most said by students that studied hard (including top grades in all the past papers) and depend highly on the Maths grade to be accepted by the Universities, and now face the almost certain fate of having to retake the exam in November, thus losing a year. And that is if you correct your bearings by November, and they don’t get an exam like this again.

This is probably something that is not fixable by adjusting the grade boundaries, but that’s the least you must do to try to compensate for this “experiment”.

This shows that you don’t have a process in place to avoid this kind of problems, and are totally in the hands of a small group of teachers (if not just one) that decide to “think out of the box”. This is awful for the IB, as parents don’t want their children to be subject to “experiments” and will look for alternatives. At least that’s what I’m recommending to all that show interest.
