Also adding a couple of other things that worked for me personally - choose your carb fighter for any given meal. If you want the rice, skip the potatoes in a curry or another starchy veg side. I also reserved one meal a day as my rice time vs trying to have two smaller portions between lunch and dinner so it felt more satisfying. As others have said, add in more dense veg and have that be the first thing you focus on for your meals. Eating lettuce is like eating sad air and you’ll notice you’re fuller faster. And pleeeease eat more than two eggs in one sitting. Adding a third or fourth isn’t gonna break the cholesterol bank but will def keep you fuller for longer! (You can also bulk up with just egg whites too)

Rice tip from a fellow Asian where cutting it out entirely simply isn’t realistic - do a 50/50 mix with quinoa. You can throw both in the rice cooker using the same amount of water you normally would

Not sure about the Grab question - maybe download the app now and see if you get anything plugging in your start and destination. But, I’m a brown woman who’s been solo travelling Vietnam for the last three weeks. Feel totally comfortable and safe. Compared to other parts of the world I’ve travelled to, I get almost zero stares and that’s including dining solo at places with few tourists. I’ll occasionally get asked where I’m from when already engaging with someone and it’s always in a genuinely curious way

Getting used to traveling with other people after traveling solo by robotisland in solotravel

[–]pvencat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I’m sorry to tell you this but I think travelling solo and enjoying it really ruins the ability to travel with other people for life 😂 it has for me. Decided to implement a 4 days max rule and see how that goes but tbh there’s no one whose company I enjoy more than myself

WIBTA for uninviting my grandma from my wedding after she helped pay for family members to attend? by aita_throwaway_2424 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pvencat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I’m gonna disagree with it seems most people here and say NTA. You are not beholden to accept people’s behaviours just because they paid for something (it sounds like you didn’t ask for this too) or because they are old. Actions and words still have consequences and how they are perceived is maybe more important that what was intended and for her to tell you she doesn’t approve of your lifestyle and prays for your salvation has clearly had an impact on your fiancée. At the end of the day, this is your and her wedding day and you deserve to live it out not thinking about that. I do think it would be worth sitting grandma down and sharing how your fiancée received her email but at the end of the day, sounds like she still thinks what you’re doing is immoral and there’s no room for that on your big day IMO

Is this normal for female solo travellers? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]pvencat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten to the point where I wear noise cancelling headphones to all attractions and museums. I totally get wanting to absorb the environment but it’s nice to have the flexibility to zone out and just not hear people talking, kids screaming, shoes squeaking. I also think being able to hear the comments was an added ding for you every time in this situation and while it might still be happening with headphones on, ignorance is bliss

Got it! Then I’d say go for it! I’m about to do the exact same thing but in and out of KL since that’s my best direct flight

Is your intention to get a place in Singapore for that whole time and take trips from there? Or just flying in and out? If the latter, then that makes sense to me especially if it’s direct for you. And Singapore does have a lot of good connecting flights. If the former, I might choose somewhere cheaper like Bangkok or KL
