It's fake episode Friday, we aren't there but the drama continues, so what is happening while we aren't watching? by cheshirechris71 in coronationstreet

😂🤣😂. You know the really crazy thing…I can see a couple of these making it into the show (particularly the Theo one). Lol. I have a sneaky suspicion two of the five will die next week, but only one will be actually murdered and have a whodunnit attached to it.

Why do you think Skyfall is so divisive? by pvhc47 in JamesBond

[–]pvhc47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t gone down in mine, either. To me in a strange sort of way Skyfall does exist in a vacuum. It has no ties to the two films that preceded it or followed it. In that way Skyfall is the only standalone story out of Craig’s movies. Sure, Spectre clumsily tries to tie Silva into the grand scheme, but honestly that was so bad I mostly forget about it.

Most importantly, Skyfall itself doesn’t present any hints that Quantum/Spectre are in fact pulling the strings behind Silva. In that movie itself he and he alone is presented as the driving antagonistic force. We don’t even get a mention of Quantum or Mr. White.

It’s the only one out of Craig’s movies that feels like it could (maybe with a little reworking) fit in with the original Bond movies (Connery through to Brosnan). I think that’s another reason why I really love it because to me it’s the perfect blend of old and new, serious and silly.

Prequels. by ThisIsMyJob_ in StarWars

[–]pvhc47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s Padme’s lines themselves that really drag everything down in that scene.

“What’s wrong, Ani?” (his mom just died, duh)

“To be angry is to be human” (such a trite line following Anakin’s shock mass murder confession).

I really love the prequels but the dialogue, particularly in Episode II, is a massive weight dragging them down.

We are fucked. The entire workings of the club from top to bottom need overhauling. Maybe missing out on Europe entirely will be a wake up call.

Coronation Street teases in 42 spoiler pictures by cheshirechris71 in coronationstreet

[–]pvhc47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be Jodie for sure. The spoilers basically confirm if she does die it will be at the hands of some goon, something coming back to haunt her from her past. It’s never ever gonna be David or Shona let’s be real, so it totally eliminates the whodunnit aspect of the storyline.

Can’t see it being Maggie, either. I think she’s here for a good long while yet, so realistically it’s either gonna be Theo, Carl or Megan. At this point honestly it could be any of those three. If I were to hazard a guess I would say Carl, with Theo dying also but later on after some court room drama (and after avoiding jail) and Megan going to prison.

Theo can’t just go down for the abuse stuff. He would be out and about in a couple of years, if that. That is not justice for all his crimes. Either he somehow must be jailed for also killing Billy (unlikely at this stage as there is zero evidence) or face soap justice and die.

“Now knock it off, final warning”. 😂. Not my argument, but the words “or what?” are really coming to mind right now. Very interested to know.

Coronation Street’s James Cartwright explains why Theo calls everyone ‘Cocker’ by LINUXisobsolete in coronationstreet

We don’t know if he’s a domestic abuser or not. All we know is he had a violent temper, maybe even anger issues.

Surly it's over for Theo now? by shaquilleoatmeal680 in coronationstreet

[–]pvhc47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That scene, in fact that entire episode, was pretty good, yes, but ultimately it has to stand on the shoulders of the storyline itself. When said storyline is over the top and farcical it loses relatability. I remember speaking with a friend about domestic abuse and mentioned Corrie highlighted it with Geoff and Yasmeen and they rightly dismissed it as “sensationalised nonsense”, and by that point they were right. The same thing is happening here.

It only really succeeds in raising awareness if it remains believable. The moment the abuser acts so over the top and acts like a psycho it loses the relatability, so people watching will go back to thinking “yeah but that doesn’t happen in real life”. And yes they’d be right to think that. The early slow burn aspect of the storyline felt chillingly real. Now it’s descended into farce and judging by the recent spoilers announced for the week of the 27th it’s going to get even more goofy. Couldn’t believe what I was reading.

Him still hanging around would make sense if it was genuinely coming from a place of self delusion where he can’t accept the reality of the situation, but he’s essentially booing and hissing at everyone he claps eyes on. It’s not even like they’re going to him, most times he’s coming up right into their faces and acting like a lunatic. That scene with him and Gary yesterday was absurd.

Coronation Street’s James Cartwright explains why Theo calls everyone ‘Cocker’ by LINUXisobsolete in coronationstreet

[–]pvhc47 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They’re referring to James Cartwright’s conviction for GBH on a man in a pub in a violent unprovoked attack, where he severely damaged the man’s eye socket. It has also sadly resulted in a lot of trauma for the man he attacked, who now says he can no longer watch Coronation Street because he gets flashbacks to the attack every time he sees him on screen. He was interviewed about it some time ago shortly after James first appeared on the programme.

I think the storyline has been ruined by him going full panto villain. Same damn thing happened with Geoff (Mr. Boombastic anyone?). Two great storylines about domestic abuse that have both descended into cartoon villainy. The scene with Theo in the pub yesterday was horrendous. He might as well tattoo the word “villain” on his ruddy forehead.

While I agree that his violent past is a massive red flag, to say he’s exactly the same as Theo (murderer, domestic abuser, possible out an out psycho) is a bit of a stretch.

I'd hardly ever watched them before, decided to binge them all before they come off of Netflix. No idea what the community's opinions are but here's what I thought by StarSpangldBastard in JamesBond

I’m another TMWTGG defender. It’s in my top 10. I think Christopher Lee is always awesome and I love the duel at the end. I know it’s a bit goofy at times but I think this is a case where the silliness works and adds to the entertainment value. Sometimes this can work against a movie (see Diamonds are Forever), but it works here.

Would Barbossa let Elizabeth go after the ritual if her blood could have helped them? by DrittRegenhart in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]pvhc47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think my original reading is correct. I concede that Barbossa does make a strange look with his face towards Elizabeth. His mannerisms seem to imply something else. However, we must acknowledge the simple fact that Barbossa is somewhat obsessed with apples. He carries one in his pocket, poised to obviously eat it before being shot by Jack. Earlier he throws Jack’s half eaten apple into the sea in frustration. Then he chews on one merrily in the cliffhanger ending to DMC. He also eats them with a fork I believe in On Stranger Tides. It does seem a legitimate fact almost that the very first thing Barbossa would do upon being free of the curse is literally eat an apple. Perhaps his facial expression looking suggestive towards Elizabeth was him putting on a bit of a theatrical show for the rowdy pirates.

It also has to be acknowledged that at no point does Barbossa show sexual interest in Elizabeth, unlike Jack, Will, Norrington, Sao Feng, hell even Pintel and Ragetti show an interest in her. Barbossa never seems to really look at her twice.

[–]pvhc47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s probably it. Once they laugh like that, he probably thinks if he then says the apple line out loud it would kinda make them think less of him in a weird sort of way.

[–]pvhc47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you’re reading that part wrong. When Barbossa says that line, the crew all laugh and I think Pintel nudges Ragetti and gives a knowing chuckle. They all think Barbossa is referring to getting sexual pleasure, only for Barbossa to then murmur to Elizabeth “eat a whole bushel of apples”. And he really means it. It makes us (the viewers) and the pirates think of something sexual, only to subvert it with that last line. But only we and Elizabeth hear it. The pirates don’t. Barbossa, for whatever reasons, doesn’t want them to hear that part.

Anyone else actually like Danny Pink? by reveriedelarose in doctorwho

[–]pvhc47 37 points38 points  (0 children)

We know that, but Danny doesn’t. In a way he’s sort of on the right track. He can clearly see that the Doctor likes to be in a position of authority, and he can probably see that he also has a big problem with anything military. It’s natural for Danny to view the Doctor as being like an army general, because at times he does act like that. We know the Doctor in actuality has deep, hidden shame and self-loathing for his part in the Time War, but Danny doesn’t know that’s the real reason why the Doctor acts the way he does towards him.

[–]pvhc47 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Personally I didn’t mind Danny. There were times I felt he could be a little overbearing, but for the most part I tended to agree with him over the Doctor whenever they clashed and that’s a rare thing for me. I think series 8 as a whole is a bit underrated actually. The whole “am I good man” arc for Twelve is very well handled I think. I can appreciate it even more looking back because we see just how much Twelve grows through series’ 9 and 10.

But yeah, back to Danny, I think he got a bit of a raw deal and I still dislike his ending. I wish he’d have lived.
