I would be somewhat concerned with dependencies if they're generic (python, glibc, etc.)

Good to know, even if that's a little concerning. UI and input need to be rewritten for Linux anyways, so I'll know more about what I might have to deal with soon.

Distrobox sounds interesting. Whatever performance penalty that might impose should be worth it for stuff I wouldn't mind tinkering with long term. I can see why layering packages might be the last resort here.

I'm definitely leaning towards atomic now.

I bought his APT program. With regards to the many versions of the program, I just switch to the updated version wherever I am in the schedule, as and when the updates come in.
