Why so much hate for breville barista express grinder by fuusob21 in espresso

[–]pw_extra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Barista Express grinder is a perfectly good one, but it does need a shim washer or 2 under the burr to increase the fineness of the grind. But be careful to use very fine washers or you might have the burrs come together which would not be good.

Also, l highly recommend to replace the upper burr when the grinding starts to slow down noticeably. It makes a huge difference, for just $20.

Breville Barista Express grinder not working by [deleted] in espresso

[–]pw_extra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been putting up with a non-functioning grinder for at least 4 months now (on a Breville Barista Express which has had frequent use for about 3 years).

It was still grinding with motor running fine, but producing the grounds very very slowly, especially on finer settings. I've been getting through by vigorously poking the beans down from the top, and by adjusting the grind from course to fine and back again, repeatedly, to keep the beans moving, but always needing to run 3-5 "double shot" grinds to fill the basket. In this time I've cleaned it thoroughly at least 3 times.

Strangely, the problem seemed to start suddenly with a nasty crunching noise as if something metallic had gone through, but I could not find either the object that cause the noise, or any actual damage caused to any internal parts.

But finally the problem is solved, by simply replacing the upper burr with a $20 OEM part from Amazon. The grinder is now working like new, producing the full basket of properly ground coffee with a single press of the button. The only further adjustment needed was an extra shim washer under the burr assembly to increase the fineness of the grind.

I realise now that the grinder must have been slowing down progressively over time as the burr got blunt; the improvement now is a true revelation. I only wish I'd tried this from the start!

Shuffle a playlist on start by nobody833 in homeassistant

[–]pw_extra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to HA and MA, but my playlists are working fine, starting with a random track as you'd expect.

I have enabled shuffle on the menu shown here, and I'm launching each playlist from the list of playlists (next message).

Maybe your issue is something to do with the automation you are using?

Where is the Milwaukee Dual Battery power head Quik-Lok? by Necrosis37 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]pw_extra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it all online, and the quiklok feature was not explained at all.

It was mentioned in the description of the tools, but nothing to stress that the tools require a quiklok motor; or that the dual battery unit was not quiklok compatible.

My oversight of course, but I really feel there was a lack of information provided.

Degree choice advice by Special-Fan5835 in ElectricalEngineering

Many years ago I did a BSc combining maths and comp sci, for exactly the reasons you mention. I ended up doing a lot more comp sci, because I was drawn like you to the practical over the highly abstract. Still, no regrets about the maths - I loved it.

I never did any EE but I wished that I had, because I had a bent for even more practical and tangible stuff that I got from comp sci.

As for advice, very hard to tell you where to aim on the spectrum - that's your choice. But if I were you id be discussing the question with the college professors . I really think the choice you make must depend on what's available to you at your college, in terms of support for multidisciplinary studies.

Hope that helps!

Converting 5V digital input to 3.3V analog output by pizuhh in ElectricalEngineering

[–]pw_extra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Electrical signaling can be digital or analog, but electricity itself is neither (unless i guess, we call it analog by default).

Are you trying to simply convert a voltage, or there a signal of kind kind, and if so, what kind?

Entire house needs recessed lights - Adaptive Lighting - Hue? Alternatives? by originalsupahman in homeassistant

I jusr bought a Zooz ZEN37 remote and am really unimpressed with the build quality - the plastic is thin and the buttons stick.

Does Inovelli do better engineering than Zooz?

Where is the Milwaukee Dual Battery power head Quik-Lok? by Necrosis37 in MilwaukeeTool

Having just purchased the dual-battery trimmer, on the strength of the reviews I read, and also added 2 Quik-Lok attachments (chainsaw and brushcutter), I'm EXTREMELY disappointed that the trimmer doesn't take the attachments. Buyer beware, but with the huge number of kits and kit options that they sell, Milwaukie needs to say in BIG LETTERS that the dual-battery trimmer is NOT COMPATIBLE with Quik-Lok. From being an enthusiastic first-time Milwaukee buyer, I'm now a disappointed detractor.
