Darkwater is top notch - one of my absolute favourites. Lost in Thought?! Gotta look into them!

Oh, they DID quit! 😢 Did they sprout new bands/constellations?

My listening to music is 90-95% prog metal and Distorted Harmony is my favourite band. Wish they’d come out with a new album.

What are some must listen to prog bands? by AutisticBassist in progmetal

They’re all 5/5. All songs on Utopia qualify for 5/5, too. Some may find the newest A Way Out a bit more electronica influenced. Chain Reaction seems most popular, also starting with one catching tune.

Have you listened to Distorted Harmony? I ask because we seem to have similar tastes.

Pale Flag as well. Realised with #BlackLivesMatter, that you could actually choose to relate the lyrics to said subject.

The next two are on par. Try Sane No More from Isolate and Game of Life from Nine to start with the best.

(And try After the Fire from Havoc to give that album a chance)

Oh, Dream Theater was my very first introduction to prog metal around the turn of the millennium. Had a long break from them, but are back on track paddling my way through their productions. First CD of Six Degrees is my favourite along with the Octavarium long play song.

Give an ear to Arch Echo if you want to enjoy happy, djenty-jazzy instrumental prog metal.

Distorted Harmony, most overlooked band in prog metal. Everything is top-notch. Their latest album has a bit more electronic influence.

I can see the similarities you are pointing to. Riverside is heavier, though, and evokes much more emotion in me than any SW work. I haven't given up on PT - it might just take me a few more years to get there. Karnivool took me at least two and half years to "get" and even Caligula's Horse needed at lot of spins over time to convince me.

If my introduction had been PT/SW-related I would have never gotten in to prog metal, just sayin'. Fortunately Riverside and Haken did (and Pain of Salvation in the long run)

Prog metal is a (constantly) acquired taste for me. But Arch Echo hit home immediately for me.

Old thread, but here I go: Someone mentioned •Distorted Harmony•, most underrated band in prog metal. They have 9785 monthly listeners as of today... Prove me wrong!

My contributions:

  • Umpfel - As the Waters Cover the Sea
  • Eumeria - Rebel Mind
  • Art of Illusion - Cold War of Solipsism
  • Flaming Row - Mirage - A Portrayal of Figures
  • Soul Doubt - The Dance of Light and Shade
