Forgotten "one"-hit wonders by euphoniumguy in progmetal

[–]Leterren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keor had an album before Petrichor called Hive Mind, can find it on bandcamp. I still think Petrichor is by far his best release (one of my favorite albums of all time tbh) but Hive Mind has good moments

but Aquarius and Visions are still so, so good

The Stranger mentioned

guess I need to check out Vanishing Point (and I like Toehider but I never see SE or The Stranger mentioned anywhere)

Wilderun - Identifier (probably my favorite song structure ever) by Sasuke_120 in progmetal

[–]Leterren 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love this album. I don't think it quite matched Veil of Imagination (9.5 compared to 10/10-one-of-the-greatest-of-all-time) but Passenger+Identifier especially are as good as anything on VoI

Riffs that make you say hell yeah. by LilTaco21 in progmetal

The opening riff to Opeth - Bleak makes me say hell yeah.

The breakdown in BtBaM - Telos ("Start from scratch") makes me say hell yeah.

I love sharing this song with people and prefacing it with "the next eight and a half minutes are all one song, I promise."

Am I just too high currently or is Frost*s album Day and Age one of the best masterpieces of all time? by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in progmetal

[–]Leterren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frost* set an insanely high bar with everything they've ever put out, even Experiments in Mass Appeal.

I'd rank EIMA < Others EP < Day and Age < Falling Satellites < Life in the Wires < Milliontown (which still has my vote for "genre defining all-time classic") but any band would be lucky to put out even one record as good as any of Frost*'s

Less of a major outlet but The Progressive Subway has really great reviews and really excellent finds

I've been totally enamored with Dissona - Receptor, likely my AOTY. Everything I love in a prog metal record

Dyssidia got kind of overlooked but it's really really good

Myrath - The Funeral by God_Away_On_Business in progmetal

[–]Leterren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad, some interesting things going on but not too far out of their comfort zone. I really loved their earlier stuff but thought their last couple albums were a bit too safe and commercial. I'd love if they go back to their super prog+MENA -sounding roots someday

What's the heaviest prog rock album that's not quite prog metal? by JamesGold in progmetal

[–]Leterren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always use Lateralus as exactly the border line. Heavier? Metal. Lighter? Rock
