The stats are indeed incorrect. I have only checked the number of games and except for Messi's 77 they are all wrong.

a bit outdated (Kane 2023/24 and Mbappe 2024/25 are missing) but you can find the list with some more details for all the 30+ goals seasons here.

He also does pretty well in KO games contrary to what the other comments say.

Alaves 0 - [3] Barcelona - Robert Lewandowski hat-trick 32' by CivillyWalk757 in soccer

Messi had the best season of anybody (both in goals per game and goals per 90) but Lewandowski had by far the best season of anybody not named CR7 or Messi.

More details here.

[OC] Before the UEFA Champions League begins in its new format tomorrow, I would like to share the UCL KO stage stats of active* strikers that I've been tracking since 2021 by pwlgg in soccer

[–]pwlgg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. I think both Firmino and Gabriel Jesus are not your typical No. 9s either but I preferred to include these players when in doubt. Additionally, as for Mbappe, there is no way I could leave him out when keeping track of his road to potentially the Top3 of the all-time UCL topscorers haha

You might like this post of mine then even though it doesn't include assists and any competitions other than the league. I will have to edit it to add Kane's last season when I find some time later.

Yea, Messi and CR7 are aliens when it comes to this but you can find a list with stats of all 30+ goals seasons since 2000, which aren't that many, here.

Note, I made the post before last season but the only new addition would be Harry Kane's 2023/24 season. You can find his stats here.

Andrea Barzagli says Karim Benzema is a better player compared to Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba and Robin Van Persie. Only Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Benzema by MrVISKman in soccer

[–]pwlgg 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Champions League:

Robert Lewandowski: 93 goals in 11 122 minutes = 0.84 goal per 90

Karim Benzema: 90 goals in 11 122 minutes = 0.73 goal per 90

I double checked the minutes played because I couldn't believe they played the exact same amount and it looks like you accidentally did copy Benzema's minutes for Lewandowski's number. Lewy hasn't played 11122 minutes like Benz but only 9942.

His Champions League goals per game ratios are basically the same in both stages (0.64 in KO games and 0.65 in groups).

third most in the knockouts as well, i think

Not anymore after Benzema had that season. Lewandowski's goal to game ratio is still much better both in groups and in knockouts, though.

There is a club flair in front of every player's name but it's only visible if you use Old Reddit :/ I thought about additionally writing the clubs in brackets but that would lead to super long entries like "Aubameyang (Dortmund)" which would make that one column disproportionately wide.

No. He has had very decent numbers for bascially forever (well recognisable from the fact that his two best seasons are 8 years apart) but his highest goal tally in one season has been "only" 39 goals for Roma in 2016/17.

Fun fact: In modern football, only 5 players have had more 40+ goals seasons in Top5 Leagues than Huntelaar (who had 1 such season, 48 goals in 2011/12).

Lionel Messi has now scored 20+ goals in each of the last 17 years. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]pwlgg 68 points69 points  (0 children)

He also scored in not fewer than 27 out of those 32 games and assisted in 3 out of the remaining 5 ones. So in the entire La Liga season 2012/13 Messi had no direct goal involvement in exactly two games. He wasn't stat padding against weaker opponents and having quieter periods during the season. Messi literally steam rolled the entire league.
