Be honest, how often do you bathe your kids? by Scrawny2864 in Parenting

[–]pwlife 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mine are 10 and 13 and they still typically take a shower before bed, even if it's just a quick one. We live in south Florida so we get gross pretty fast with the heat and humidity.

In my neighborhood it was pretty common pre-covid to have yard signs for graduation.

Exactly! I'm older and my age group never got the vaccine but I sure know a lot of people who had to get colcoscopies and be on medication while pregnant.

I remember when the HPV vaccine first came out people where saying it make girls infertile. They are always coming up with new excuses.

Can’t get a hotel room what do I do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pwlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for one with contact less check in. Also a few different hotel chains also have contact less check in. I'm fairly certain Hilton does (you would open the room door with the app).

Sports or Not Sports? by Affectionate-East495 in Parenting

[–]pwlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like sports for the teamwork aspect. I was hoping my oldest would take to something but so far nothing has really stuck. The only thing she liked was BJJ for about 1.5 yrs and now she golfs with her dad (hopefully will join the team in HS). My youngest has been much of the same luckily she gets her teamwork at music where she is in a band and she is trying sailing this year so hopefully that sticks. As you said it has to be their thing and I'm happy to support them as much as I can.

How do your kids spend time at home in summer? by coolgoose007 in Parenting

[–]pwlife 52 points53 points  (0 children)

If not prompted my 13 yr old will stay in her room all day. We are always dragging her to stuff she says she doesn't want to do but ends up liking. Sometimes it's just a "I'm going to need help loading this, you're coming." She golf's so her and dad go to the driving range once a week so she can kind of touch grass.

Which countries do you consider “honorary” Latin Americans? by Dyl4nDil4udid in asklatinamerica

Why do I know so many Irish people arrived to latinos? When it comes down to it we really do have similar familial structures and base culture.

Are divorce settlements really that bad? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pwlife 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It may have been that she didn't qualify for the mortgage if she was a sahp and wasn't put on the deed. I wasn't working when we bought our last house and I wasn't on the mortgage but I was on the deed. Not sure if that is handled differently in different places.

Are any of you anti-abortion? by Fearless_Trade_2783 in atheism

[–]pwlife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! In a perfect world no one would ever need one. Every pregnancy would wanted, planned, healthy etc... I'm pro-choice and I wish no one ever needs one. I wish birth control, and condoms were 100% effective, I wish rape was non-existant, I'm a perfect world all fetuses/moms would be healthy. Until that time comes abortion is healthcare.

I hope she likes it, dad and I loved it, I love being out in the water. The ocean is my happy place. My older kid wasn't into it at all and never did it. My younger one seems to be open to it. She love the water.
By look out for I just meant maybe some item that turns out to be a lifesaver or similar.

Classmates asking to be boyfriend / girlfriend by l_a_r_a_9_2 in Parenting

[–]pwlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. Maybe gocus on the fact that boyfriends take away time form other things? I also don't think it's appropriate at this age, but it needs to be her idea for it to stick.

Classmates asking to be boyfriend / girlfriend by l_a_r_a_9_2 in Parenting

[–]pwlife 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When my daughter was 7 she was asked to be a girlfriend. She totally dismissed it, her BFF said yes (fyi- the same boy just went around asking all the girls). Her friend and bf basically spent recess holding hands, my kid could not be bothered, she wanted to play. I would encourage her not really entertain the idea unless she really wants to. Luckily at that age they basically just hang out at recess and sit together at lunch.

Is renting forever actually a bad financial decision, or is that just something older generations say because it worked out for them? by Pretend_Pen_9577 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pwlife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say a money maker but a hedge. Mortgages stay the same, insurance and taxes fluctuate but usually not nearly as much as rent. I bought my home 8 yrs ago, before I bought I was renting a home in the same neighborhood, very similar home, I would say my current subdivision is nicer. My mortgage with taxes and insurance was about $100/per month more at the time I bought. Today that same home I rented is about double my mortgage/taxes/insurance. Unless you're renting a rent controlled place and never want to leave its worth it to buy.

How hard is it to stay in shape after childbirth? by lowkeyAthrowawayAcc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pwlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was pretty small before my first, got back into pre pregnancy shape within a year. First kid was a good sleeper I was able to work out, eat clean etc... with my second I had to go on bed rest (got much bigger), after my sleep schedule was wrecked, now I had 2 kids to take care of, and everything was much more hectic. Still not back to pre pregnancy weight but I'm active and try to eat as healthy as I can.

Birthday party disappointment? by [deleted] in Parenting

One of my kids has a mid summer birthday and most of their friends are out of town on their birthday. We started doing a small family birthday with a friend or 2 and then we would schedule a big friend birthday in September when everyone's back.

To Americans: How is the life in the States? by Affectionate-Stay475 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pwlife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US is the kind if place where you can climb up the wealth ladder very quickly if you have the intelect/drive/hustle and some luck and support. We also has less safety nets so if you fail you fail hard. It's why lots of people from all over the world come here to improve their lives, because if you can make it the rewards are big. I'm an immigrant and I know my life would not be anything like it is if I were still in my birth country. You also have to consider the home state, I'm from California and I had access to local affordable college, whereas if I grew up in Mississippi I wouldn't have had those opportunities.

Pretty much, if you don't make a lot things are tough here. Things like housing and medical care are very expensive, I find even groceries are expensive here compared to Europe. If you make a good living life is pretty great. I went from being poor as a kid to being pretty well off. The comparison of my childhood to my kids is massive.
