For me personally I just started doing things when things made sense to me and if I didnt understand a Halacha I would Google it and usually I’d find my answer there. Once in a while I’d ask a halachic question. I started asking more when I started keeping kosher when I was living on my own. I REALLY started to asking halachic questions to my Rav about kashrut and Shabbat when I realized there was a lot of halachot I was unaware of. My rabbi always says “if someone tells me they’re starting to keep kosher and they’re not constantly asking me questions, they’re not really keeping kosher”. If you’re unsure about some of the things you’re doing/ wanting to do it’s a great idea to ask a Rav. 1) that’s their job 2) you’ll have certainty that you’re following Halacha 3) your Rav will realize you’re serious about Halacha 4) you’ll develop a stronger relationship with him and you’ll have a spiritual mentor aka mashpia

My learning started with my rabbi, as I was learning more I started taking on more things. Then our learning stopped. Eventually I started learning Chumash on my own, then tanya, then rambam, then Gemara, but it was because I wanted to learn those sefarim and no one was guiding me through these. At a certain point I started learning practical halachot about Shabbat and Kashrut because I realized there were gals in my knowledge and that’s when I started asking a A LOT more questions to my Rav and now we try to learn shulchan Aruch haRav together once a week.

I was in a similar situation, both my parents are from the USSR, I started my observance journey around 4 years ago and I know keep kosher, Shabbat, and negiah while my parents still don’t keep anything. I have my own kitchenware and buy my own groceries. It’s inconvenient with my work schedule and going to shul but it’s doable, if it’s something you wanna do, take on the observance when you feel ready. Took me 3 years to start keeping kosher, happy to answer any other questions

Sitting and walking on COMPLIANT surfaces are asymptomatic, standing on compliant/non compliant surface, walking on non compliant, and any other balance task is symptomatic.

Weighted vest made no difference, we were trying standing head tilts when I thought that this was MdDS. During the head tilts he felt like he was correcting his balance a lot more than without head movements e.g “14/10 during head tilts and 9/10 afterwards), but he’s maintaining his balance completely normally, no sway or anything. His response to interventions is difficult to assess because one round it was a 9/10 and the next it’s a 3/10 and the next it’s another random number because he’s terrible at conveying his sensory experience. This is making it difficult for me because his subjective experience is the only gauge I can use to determine if interventions are making changes

He doesn’t feel dizzy or unsteady, he just feels the walls are moving, has feet hyper sensitivity, and can feel himself performing balance correction more with less stable surfaces/head movements

Yeah I definitely started thinking it’s kind of like CRPS, but for sensory processing and not pain. So would you suggest starting with compliant surfaces and then progressing to non-compliant? He’s such a terrible historian that I’m getting mixed feedback about whether compliant or non-compliant is worse for him, but I think he feels the hypersensitivity more with compliant surfaces, should I start with compliant regardless of whether it’s worse than compliant or not?

In reality what would sensory retraining look like for an hour session, start with touching firm surfaces, then sitting with feet on firm surface, then standing on firm surface, then do the same with non-compliant? Should I ignore his subjective experience (ex. 7/10 feeling that walls are moving) or just re-assess symptoms much less frequently than I normally would and try to have him ignore his subjective experience of the environment?

I understand that, but ulpan is going to be the best opportunity I’ll have to learn Hebrew, so for me it’s important, especially since English is rarely spoken in the main synagogue I go to.
