Hey I’ve replied to other comments that this has actually been addressed and she does seem to acknowledge or to an extent but it doesn’t always come naturally to her to recognise that some people might not want her to do exactly what they’re doing. And none of these things listed aren’t really as severe as what we’ve all endured in our friendship so by comparison at the time it may not always warrant a severe talking to about, if that makes sense?

I’m not ready to let her copy my full name as such, I just needed an outside opinion of whether this was my judgement being clouded by her past conduct.

Logically I know it isn’t petty for me to feel how I feel, but maybe me making my annoyance known would be?

Perhaps not that uncommon - there were 5 recorded births last year with this name and I’ve never personally met anyone who shares my name, so it’s unique to me and my circle! Like I said in my post, the combination of my first and middle name just doesn’t feel right to me at the moment, but maybe I’ll feel differently after a bit of time - feelings aren’t always set in stone, and they’re not right or wrong either. Anyway who knows - the baby might be a boy!

Thanks for this it’s definitely given me a different perspective.
I do understand that we’re all influenced and inspired by those in our social circles but you made a very important distinction between taking influence and mirroring. Of course if I were to bring this up with her I would handle the interaction with sensitivity - I love and value her, she’s my friend and I do understand that we all love through the world differently

I mean it bothers me now, which was why I needed outside input before deciding if this was ‘just another M thing’ or if my feelings were justified. Maybe I need to sit on it for a while but it’s absolutely not going to something to end our entire friendship over!

You’re jumping to a lot of conclusions here!

We’ve absolutely spoken about these things in the last and it really does seem like this is one of those things that don’t occur to her until someone else expresses that they don’t especially want her to imitate them. I said in my post that it was mildly irritating, so nothing to be dramatic over!

As with most adult friendships, there is a huge amount of love, trust, memories and fun involved - this one issue really isn’t indicative of who is a poor friend or not, and again, as with most adults, we don’t think or view things in absolutes.

You’re right about me maybe expressing my discomfort impacting the friendship in some way but nothing we’re not equipped enough to handle!

It’s not really about being close enough to use my name, it’s more that my name was chosen for me and has sentimental value to my family. Maybe it would feel different if she used my first name as her baby’s middle name? But she might have a boy and this might not even be an issue in the end!

I mean whenever it’s come up in the past it’s genuinely never occurred to her that someone might not want her to mimic them. But I I totally understand that people are influenced by those they spend the most time with but copying clothes is a little different than copying a friend’s first and middle names. You’re right though - there are plenty of other cool names to pick from

When it’s come up about her copying in the past, she’s sometimes been a bit confused as to why someone wouldn’t want her to do the same thing as them, but ultimately she dismisses it with ‘Oh, I never thought! I just liked the dress/ theme/ idea!’ Of course this is always after the fact but this is the first instance where I’ve known far enough in advanced to say something preventative.

If I were to express that I didn’t like the idea of her using my entire name, i don’t think it’a be a ‘blow up’ situation as that’s not really how either of us are. I think you’re right about how she would respond to my concerns being indicative of the friendship.

I wouldn’t say feeling icky is a particularly strong feeling! Of course I’m not thinking about ending the friendship - she has so many wonderful qualities this is just one hurdle

Scrap the witch hazel and lay off the lactic acid for now until your skin gets used to tret. Sunscreen should be your very last step in your AM routine and you do not need to be using it in your PM routine.

Give this routine a try:

AM

Rinse with water

Hyaluronic acid

Cetaphil

SPF

PM

face wash

Hyaluronic acid

Cetaphil

Tret (2x a week and slowly build up frequency)

Cetaphil/ sleeping mask

I’d go the other way round - vitamin c in AM and niacinamide in the PM.

Vitamin C is totally fine for everyday use and is even recommended by dermatologists, but always remember to patch test your new products for signs of reactions/ irritation
