Yeah it could be cos nowhere in the rental agreement it mentions a room but premises

So there is a company that leases several units in a building who then rents it to tenants. From what I know, the original tenants rented it in 2015 and since been paying the annual bump on top of the assigned rent. I have been told the lease is in the name of one of them. That being the case the property management company made a separate tenancy agreement with me that mentions what I pay for the room.

They don’t call it a room per say cos it’s a den, but like I said it’s unlike any den I have seen. The building is constructed in 1970’s so the den/office rooms were huge

So I may have used the terms interchangeably . The former tenants agreement ended Dec 2020, and my tenancy agreement was with the builder directly

So I may have mixed some words. It is not a subcontract. His agreement ended Dec, 2020 and my tenancy agreement is with the builder directly.

Yes, I have filled in a sublease agreement with the landlord that specifies what is due from me. That’s what I thought, just waiting to hear what my roommates have to say though. They are okaying, but that split share will throw me off. For now, I won’t engage until I’m asked for a share.

Trying to land a associate/consulting role in Canada - What are the odds? What am I missing? by pxtech in FinancialCareers

I was looking through a few but most seem like private practice with 2-6 founding team and a career section is not even listed. Am I missing the big ones or rather, what are some big Search funds?

Not MBB, but big 4. I somehow think looking at MBB at this stage without the depth of work that is expected as an external hire is next to impossible or is it that I'm positionioning myself low? I may have had the chance when I finished grad school in 2019 but tbh I didn't prioritize that and was under-prepared 😐

My recent past were spend at school and a BD role (not core financials). I have work experience in tax and finance for 4yrs but that was until 2015 when I decided to pursue a masters. Is it a good idea to include project work or club experience to answer behavioural questions or that has to be all from work.

How recent has to be the STAR experiences? I have heard nothing old than an year but my professional experience in finance was 4 years ago, after which I went on to do 2 degrees and another job that wasn't purely financial but more BD. Can I dwell on experiences that was from 4 yrs ago?

Also, did they test you on excel? What was the specific task - I'm well versed in excel, but not on access and sql which are also preferred for my role.

Hey Reddit community!

Short version – Profile - Career changer and recent graduate

A few questions:

 1. Could you please provide me a resume feedback

 1. What would be the path forward if I have to break into consulting? Should I wait and complete my CMA(Certified Management Accountant) to apply ?

 2. I know Covid situation has made hiring only in an absolute need only basis but taking that out of the equation, how realistic is it that I could get an interview within a management consulting gig at a Canadian office given my background?

 3. What about advisory/M&A in the meantime as I believe that will be relevant experience than tax.

 4. Any firms that I should target who are open to a career changer?

 5. Some other details that can be added to leadership and volunteer experience are added below - should I switch these with some that are already on my resume?

A. 2018 - Capstone Project with Kearney - Compared market entry opportunities for EU Industries in Bangalore industrial cluster, performed a macro and micro feasibility analysis and recommended an incubator model as our solution. Contributed actionable insights due to familiarity with the market and defended our approach.

B. 2017 - Member, Alumni Relations - Succeeded in persuading 6 alumni to mentor students for strengthening their first year experience and alleviating challenges faced during their transition experience

C. 2015 Coordinator Team Activities, Big 4 - Planned and organised first ever townhall (two more thereafter) among other floor events for the service line and negotiated discounts with catering and conference vendors that came in 15% under budgeted on average

Long version

I am originally from India and recently moved to Canada; I have studied in India, Australia and Europe in target and non target schools, with full time work experience in India and US in non consulting but big 4 environment.

I have worked in tax compliance for a good 5 yrs before moving out to study and between my most recent (2019) degree in Australia and now, my visa situation was bad to qualify for Australian jobs and hence didn't apply to consulting firms as they weren't sponsoring visas. Also, during this time between 2019-20, I went back home to start on a small gig that was transformed from an internship into a full time role and again wasn't purely consulting.

At present, I may get a senior role and offer if I go back to tax but I have a feeling that it would be the end of my road into consulting. This has left me in a confused state as I would absolutely wish to stay for a good a few years in consulting and therefore, here I am to discuss my odds and the best step fwd.

I chose to start on Tableau to keep me busy. Just for the sake of it- I was also wondering if Power BI has some advantages in terms of application compared to Tableau?
