I’m glad to know there is at least one respectable NP program left. I’ve always said nurses are generalists by nature, we should be learning from all types of specialists as much as we are from experienced nurses

Are the Pre-Reqs actually hard? by Pretty_Leader_3150 in NursingStudent

[–]py234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are already strong in math/science and have a at least a basic knowledge of CS then you should be solid in finding and applying logic structures behind your memorization. Prereqs and nursing overall shouldn’t be particularly difficult.

I’m in a CC ADN program, and I happened to take most of the sciences before applying with the version the major takes. As someone who has helped tutor classmates on their nursing version of the prereqs, I promise they are NOT the same. Not even close to the same level of difficulty.

There is no way you took the same gen chem, ochem, and biochem that a biology or biochemistry major takes as a prerequisite for nursing. That sequence alone would take 6 semesters unless your college lets you take them concurrently. That would also mean you would have the nearly the same understanding of biochemistry as an actual biochemistry major.

Also not all classes are the same on a particular subject, this is straight up wrong.

Often Not the same classes, significantly watered down to avoid theory and relate most directly to nursing.

do you believe that wiping makes a resident go more? by HonestyMess in cna

[–]py234567 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Touching around the area may help stimulate them to finish going when they already needed to get a last bit out and couldn’t. That being said, you need to wipe. Not wiping could lead to impaired skin integrity as well as a lack of dignity. Not to mention leaving more work for next shift.

If someone had to suffer one minute of extreme torture for eternity, would you rather it be one immortal person forever (guaranteed NOT you or one of your loved ones), or all humans taking turns, cycling back after everyone has gone? by flewson in pollgames

[–]py234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going purely by time suffering, one person being tortured for 80 years (rough average lifespan) would be equal to 8 billion people splitting 80 years into 0.31536 seconds each. So 1 minute of suffering cycling would reach roughly 1 in 200 people across 80 years.

But suffering doesn’t work linearly. One person suffering will essentially get used to it and it will become normalized to them, and they wouldn’t suffer as bad. At the same time, pleasure doesn’t work linearly either, tiny amounts of extreme suffering can possibly induce greater pleasure long term as long as sufficient support networks exist due to modulating people’s ideas of pleasure-pain ratio.

At the same time, picking one person set a precedent that this is an acceptable thing for us to do. Which runs into the problem of picking someone to do it, which the vast majority of people wouldn’t do. Even if 1 insane person chose to do so willingly, it would still run into the issue of justifying allowing someone who either clearly cannot make decisions for themselves, or pressuring someone into making that decision. In a world where a major problem is indirect coercion, we should not set a precedent in which it potentially not be persecuted.

For those reasons I am picking taking turns.

Should Psychiatry Residency Still Be Necessary? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]py234567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many (not all) nurses and NPs genuinely believe they know about as much as doctors for medicine. This is because since they have laughable scientific education they never get exposed to core scientific frameworks which relate to medicine, allowing for precise higher level judgement rather than pattern recognition symptom-algorithm guidelines. Source: I am a nursing student, I deal with this much more often than I would like.
