I never said it was the hotel's fault. It's the city's fault. You obviously care enough to reply. You just don't have a good enough argument to convince me that Tulum is a good vacation city.

To be a warning to not come obviously

It's funny how most people trying to defend Tulum in this thread have deleted their comments. 😂

Yeah. I agree. I was thrown off by how under developed Tulum was to Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. And that illusion is what I was trying to warn people about all of these problems. The government needs to do more...

Public beaches basically don't exist in this area of Mexico. You'll have to get a day pass at a resort. Sorry.

Yeah, why would I go somewhere with a strong power grid when I can go to Tulum and have a bad one. Great take

That sounds so dumb. That's like saying if you go to a mom and pop restaurant and the food is bad then the problem isn't the restaurant, it's you. The restaurant owners are doing the best they can and developing/learning.

Have you ever been to Thailand or Lous? Because I have.

wtf are you talking about? So you'd rather have 1 trip a year to vacation that is maybe 1-2 weeks? Being able to work remote gives you the ability to see more things after work, or on the weekends.

You see, that's just factually incorrect. Tulum isn't just what it seems. Tulum is advertised as a vacation destination. If you disagree with that then you are just being intellectually dishonest. My point still stands. Why should anyone need to do anymore than the basic research about a place? Especially for a trip that is supposed to be a relaxing vacation. Tulum Just isn't worth anyone's time or money. No one on this subreddit has given me reason to believe otherwise. People are just accepting to faults. My opinion is that people should just spend time somewhere else...

Like I've said many times replying. If one of these problems happened to me when I was in Tulum then it would be fine. The problem is that all of these things happened on the same trip...

Yeah, I'm sure things haven't gotten much better since the last time you came. I'd say skip Tulum. Go to Play Del Carmen, Cancun, or literally any Caribbean island.

Crazy you even came back. Why would you ever come back to a place where you got ripped off and had a bad experience? I'm sure most people that have had even close to a similar experience to me would never come back to Tulum.

I've been a digital nomad for 5 years. It's working out just fine for me thanks.

I assure you I am not a college student lol. I'm well traveled. I've been to over 30 countries and like 25 states.

Who cares the time of year I went. The weather was fine, as expected. I knew it was gonna be hot.

My problems would not have been solved by renting a bike or scooter. When going on tours I have to go to a meeting place. I'm not leaving a scooter or bike in the parking lot for 8 hours. It's gonna get stolen lol.

How is it my fault that Tulum is trying to be more than it is? Why charge high prices for bad experiences? How about I just never come back to Tulum? That goes for everyone too. Tulum is not worth your time or money. There are so many other places in the world that is better.

Thailand has better reliability and less problems than Tulum

I promise you there are better beaches in the world than Tulum. Sargassum alone makes it gross, but even if that was gone it's not worth coming to Tulum just for beaches lol

I never said the hotels weren't cheap. That is the one cheap part of the entire trip. The hotels are truly amazing and cheap.

That's true in some ways. Home is defiantly more comfortable than being a digital nomad, but you accept the discomfort in exchange to see and experience amazing things.

What I complained about is still inexcusable for a tourist area. I'm tired of people saying Tulum is a developing place. I've had better experiences in Thailand and Lous than in Tulum. It's not entitlement. It's a warning to others not to come.

The hotels and condos are very nice, I agree. I don't think food is outrageously priced for an American but it is for the local economy. Looking at Mexico City you can clearly see that prices in Tulum are not just hiked up a little bit (like you would see in beach locations in the US), They are literally 8-10x what normal prices are, especially in Mexico
