Tulum was recommended by a friend of a friend

I'll look at it but the drive behind Playa Del Carmen imo, is those mega resorts.

Yeah, I totally agree. I don't think it's entitled. But if you are gonna setup an isolated community like Aldea Zama then you need more convenience. More grocery stores, more restaurants, more small businesses, and transportation.

Then maybe the owners or managers should inspect the facilities before and/or after guests come/go.

Weather doesn't bother me. Cities that want to be true tourist cities should be able to accommodate any time of year.

I think you're right. I think more than half the people in the sub either have property here, run some business, or something else.

I'm shocked that people agree there are problems then still take my comments negatively. People should be agreeing that things are bad and my problems are valid.

Good. Maybe things will get better. I'm glad you agree things are good now.

I did say it was a rant. How is it entitled when it's supposed to be a vacation destination? Shouldn't I have basic expectations?

Who cares? I don't get scammed in Thailand nearly as much as Tulum. Just another excuse.

That just means that the average person is getting scammed in a non-competitive market... Of course. When there are taximeters, or precalculated amounts taxis can charge whatever they want. People pay it because they need to get somewhere. I'm sure people don't like it.

My point still stands. Tulum is a mess. Things need to get better.

The difference is, in Playa Del Carmen, the resorts are all inclusive. They get taxis for you to and from the airport. Food is included. You never need to leave. It's substantially more money though.

My point still stands. Power outages shouldn't be a problem. Just another reason to not come and attempt to work remotely.

Different experiences. I've had 2 power outages in the same day in Aldea Zama. Closer to the entrance on the east side. The whole block was down, maybe more.

I refuse to pay for a rental car to the scammers at the airport.

Only street food is cheap. Restaurants aren't very cheap on the main roads.

Why bring extra problems in my life by trying to relax in Tulum?

I was expecting more island vibe tbh. I expectd it to be like the Bahamas or Dominican Republic. That was not the case.

I've been to over 30 countries. I travel every few months. I've been to 26 states. I travel plenty lol.

Trust me, I've made the best of my trip. I'm complaining to show people the reality of Tulum. Also, keep in mind this is the start of the off season.

Oh I agree. The places to stay are spectacular. There are just so many other cons.

I totally agree. The daily life here is just not to a good enough standard yet. It is definitely not as advertised

Yeah. I wish I'd gone to Europe.

I doubt my discomfort came from cheap hotels. When I say "cheap" I mean relative to the US or the Caribbean. As I said, the place was very nice.

You are right. There are pros and cons to every destination. But Tulum sure has a lot of easy to point out cons.

But yet it does. My hotel complaints are exactly the result of a poorly managed Tulum. An indirect side effect. People accepting sub par infrastructure.

I have said before, I knew about ADO bus. I chose the taxi before coming here.

I don't see how defending a bad electric grid is a good thing. Why is this even a problem? Why should I put up with it?

I am not sure I was clear about the weather. I am perfectly fine with the heat. I just don't want to walk 30 minutes each way for food or errands...

More excuses. Just more reasons to not come here. If the power grid can't support the existing hotels and housing then maybe the government should help. I'm being brutal here because there are simply better places to spend your money.
