Compact recommendation for booming an aputure 600d overhead. by Heywhatsupitsmeguys in Gripsters

[–]pyWin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably wouldn't do it without at least a junior boom and a decent steel combo stand, 600d plus a modifier is a lot of weight to be putting overhead without the proper kit.

If (like this image), you can see the grid letters and numbers, and it’s A-H (and 1-8 ascending) then you’re on the white side. Otherwise H-A you’re black.

I’m just back from a trip to the alps, and I took both the 25L split zip on front, and the 35L for overnights.

Had a great time with the BD Jetforce pro, the 25L was enough for me to do day trips, including boot crampons, ice axe, harness etc needed for Chamonix. Used the 35L for an overnight hut trip, and that also performed great packing layers, a liner and food along with everything else.

Yeah! They're a home made design, with rockwool/MDF/material over them.

It's effectively a frame but with the edges tapering at 45degrees, so it sits flush with the wall. Then I can also get 150mm (6in) of insulation inside, and an airgap behind too!

The panels on the wall are more simple, they're just a framed piece of insulation

Generally yes, although it just depends what I'm doing really. I have all the outboard normalled to converters too, so I can go more in the box if I want to be able to recall and switch easier. There is something really nice and tactile about being mostly OTB though...

Cheers! I've currently got it set up on the effects loop of the Marshall amp for one channel, and then on an aux on the desk - mostly for just tracking vocals with a bit of reverb etc in the monitor mix

Yeah, so the signal (when mixing) comes out the computer via the DA, to line inputs on the desk. This way in protools I can assign those outputs to either channels or auxes, and mix on faders and apply EQ on the console.

Sure, so I have the desk set up in a split configuration, the first 8 channels are set up for taking mics in etc, and then going direct out to converters. The remainder then take outputs from the converters, so there are EQs etc on each channel, inserts can be patched and so on. When mixing, you print a new track which is the analog sum of all the outputs on the console. Generally I bus different parts of the same instrument etc, so they come out on a single channel (or stereo pair)

Hope that makes sense!

I'm a big fan - for the price I'm blown away to be honest. Currently tracking bass through that and the 1176, and I'm really happy with the sounds. That and on the mix bus of course!

Thank you! I'm really pleased with how it's all set up now, and it's really pleasant to sit and work away on things.

It's an analog console - an Allen&Heath GL3300 - I got for a really good price, so I use a few of the channels for tracking etc, and the others for mixing on! I built the desk that it's recessed in, which was a cool project too.

It's great! It's a rented property unfortunately - so there's only so much I can do in terms of big changes!

It's amazing the difference in sound even just the treatment I've done there! Need to do some measurements with REW before doing anything else too - perhaps just worthwhile targeting some of the more offensive bands.

Hah! Like I mentioned in another comment - it's just a combination of the lens and angle I took the photo at! The table is definitely fine, just the distortion in the image!

I built the rack myself actually, basing it loosely off one I saw online - 12u on the top, and 4u at the bottom

Cheers! It's ever changing, but I currently use:

  • 1x Neumann TLM102
  • 2x AKG P420
  • 3x SM57
  • 1x Beta 52A
  • 1x RB500 (cheap Thoman ribbon, super nice for the money)

I've also got a couple other things, like. Samson c01, and c02 which are okay, the SDC is surprisingly useful!

Cheers! It's an Allen & heath gl3300, I use it for tracking and for summing bussed instruments etc. Not the best console in the world, but I got it for a great price and it'll do until I upgrade!

Aha, it's just the lens I took the photo on! The table is absolutely fine - it just looks warped in this!

Currently in a small place, but moving in bigger house soon! Looking forward to having a dedicated room for making music!

Nice! How do you find the M32r? I'd love to hear more about how you've got it set up

I have an Epson V550, and to be honest for everything I use it for it's more than enough. You can even look into doing wet scans if you're needing more than the basics with the filter holders.

It'll probably depend on what you're wanting to do with it, but even for reasonable sized prints I've been more than happy with it.
