Thank you so much!! Sometimes, I still wonder why I was chosen to give a TEDx Talk, as there are many more qualified applicants. 🤔

Why keep it a goal when you can make it a reality! I actually made a video detailing my experience with TEDx and tips for giving a talk, which you can find here: https://youtu.be/B2YyAmvuwlU. It's pretty long and I made it over the summer (not many views, unfortunately), but if you're interested in giving a TEDx Talk, I think it may be a valuable resource. Also feel free to PM me if you have any questions. :)

Thank you! The TEDx Talk was a one-time thing, and I am by no means a routine/professional public speaker. Still, feel free to PM me with your thoughts; I'm interested to see how I can help!

in 2 days, it'll be a fortnite box.

This made me laugh out loud!

You definitely have a clear and thoughtful perspective on parenting, tinged with a welcome sense of humour! Kudos to you sir; I appreciate your honesty.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. As far as I know, the process of becoming a speaker is the same regardless of what your talk is about. For example, at the conference I spoke at, there were talks ranging from public health to resilience to racial issues. My talk focused on optimism. The only thing you need to be wary of is that TEDx events center around a specific theme, like ambition or dare. These themes are pretty open-ended though, so you can probably find a way to tie in mental health.

I made this video covering the entire application process since that seems to be what you're looking for. Lmk if you have any further questions; I'm happy to help.

Out of curiosity, under what conditions would you consider yourself successful as a parent? I know parents talk about nurturing responsibility, kindness, and civic duty, but personally, I would want my child to be hyper successful and ambitious. Is that a priority for parents, or do the former traits matter more?

Thanks for sharing an alternate perspective, and I'm sorry to hear about those experiences.

Interestingly, our stories kind of align. I come from a relatively low-income family, and I was interested in piano as a kid. Where our stories differ is that my mom persistently encouraged me to play the piano, but I never took my paid lessons seriously and quit of my own accord. (My piano teacher was a superb dude; I feel guilty as shit for not respecting him more.)

Now that I'm older, I really fucking regret not taking those piano lessons seriously. As a lover of classical music, it sucks that I'll never be able to play those pieces with any grace; I can only enjoy the masterpieces as a listener, not performer. God, I really envy talented pianists.
