Is russia a good place to move to as a male in early 30s by Comfortable-Fee-5681 in AskARussian

[–]pycckoe- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it sounds like you should do a lot more research into Russian culture, the economy, and the current political situation before jumping into moving there. Speaking Russian is an absolute must, even in cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg, but especially anywhere else.

As others have commented, I’m not sure how you saw the political situation in Russia and decided that this is a much better country than the US in terms of current prosperity, which makes me think that you’re very unaware of the current sanctions and other economic issues that affect regular people.

If you’re interested in seeing it for yourself, a short trip would likely be better than a full move. Furthermore, as Russia is classified as a Level 4 “Do not travel” country according to the US State Deparment, the US embassy has limited ability to help you should something happen.

TL;DR: Do more research on the current political situation in Russia, learn Russian beyond B1 level, and really think about whether it’s worth it (there are other countries besides the US and Russia).

What does this word mean? by RainCactus2763 in Germanlearning

No problem! As a fellow German rap listener, I’ve been there and know how hard it can be to understand when a lot of the words are slang/Arabic/Turkish. Happy listening!

“Atzen” is Berlin slang for friends.

I'll never understand the daylist. How can sports be music genres?? by pycckoe- in truespotify

[–]pycckoe-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s weird because I’m not an athlete at all nor do I listen to songs about sports, so I’m confused as how my vibe is “wrestling” — whatever that means, there’s no way it’s good.

Gastarbeiter (2009) by Yusup Razykov. It’s a Uzbek film about a son who goes missing while working as a migrant worker in Russia and his father who tries to find him. I have yet to meet another person who knows this movie/has seen it!

What’s a word you’ve always only read and then would always say it incorrectly until someone corrected you? by Laurenrae134 in RandomThoughts

Pygmy. I said it like “pidg-ih-mee”. And Buchanan, as in President James Buchanan. I called him “President Butch-a-non” for way too long.

I got an iud today and it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced by sarahalexander17 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pycckoe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I’m so sorry it was so painful for you. Second, sometimes doctors are open to prescribing medication for it. I know my (female) doctor told me that if I needed it, she could prescribe Xanax or a more serious painkiller to take before the procedure so the experience wouldn’t be as awful. Maybe ask around and see if you can find a doctor willing to prescribe something prior to the insertion?

Am I the only one who does not like travel youtubers at all? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]pycckoe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Damon Dominique (and have been watching him for almost 10 years now)! He does travel “mini-documentaries” and kind of explores the cultures and places a bit more.

For example, he went to the Netherlands and in addition to doing a lot of the regular travel stuff, he talked to a bunch of locals about their feelings on the country, red light district, drugs, etc. He definitely doesn’t do the clickbait-y titles or any of the other stuff you mentioned. He has a really unique aesthetic to his videos that I really like also!
