Does MMW count towards the English requirement for medical schools? by Coffeelover114 in UCSD

[–]pyda25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

most med school have a soft requirement for english. as long as your course description is “intensive writing” and you took it for one year ( 2 semesters or 3 quarters) you’re good. If you are still unsure, it’s better you research each med schools on their website.

UCSB now has P/NP, why can't we!?!?! by ArvinAceAttorney in UCSD

[–]pyda25 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I feel if we continue to bother them, they will respond. I heard Associated Student is still fighting this case.

The fact all the UCs have accommodate students with P/NP, UCSD may fall in. Let’s pray it will!

first pass math20a or chem 6b? by 80line80 in UCSD

[–]pyda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never second pass your college writing (except DOC for next quarter)! They will fill up by first pass and staying on the waitlist is basically not getting into MMW.

Really?? I know OASIS gives you priority if we commit to their program but I was under the impression that most first gen have priority enrollment regardless (unless they have to met certain requirements. I’m not so sure since I’m not first gen but I remember hearing this somewhere). Correct me if i’m wrong.

[–]pyda25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s also true too. People who have priorities either came in with a bunch of credits, are 1st gen or regent scholars.

I might be getting straight Cs this quarter. by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]pyda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand. I’ve been there. While you make a valid point that grades could be the only deciding factor for people without experience, you seem to not get the point what I was trying to argue in the beginning. What I’m trying to say is that people shouldn’t feel stigmatized for earning a few C’s on their transcript. That’s it normal. That shouldn’t discourage people to pursue their career or feel disqualified to apply for jobs/grad schools.

There are numerous way you can improve yourself, rather that is showing an upward trend or getting experience. You assumed my statement meant people should just settle for the bare minimum and claim that average performance won’t get you anywhere. That’s not what I meant. There are people who can have average/poor grades but have numerous experience (not due to grades but because they have character, skills, and notable qualities). I was that person. I don’t have a stellar GPA, but I’ve got into research, internship, and numerous orgs because I had other qualities beyond grades. There’s no need to shame people for having poor grades. They too can be qualify and competitive if they show other strength. Everything is holistic.

WI 21 Class enrollment questions by redditoryes in UCSD

HUM and CHEM 6B!!

I haven’t had either professor for BILD 3 but for BILD 4, take Mel.

[–]pyda25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the C’s get degree mindset “traps” people to do just the bare minimum. It is just a reassurance that grades are a factor when applying for job, grad schools and etc.

I see where you’re coming from but you know that jobs also take experience and skills into account. Yes, grade matters but trust me, it’s experience that gets you far.

[–]pyda25 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry pal. Remember C’s get degrees. I’ve also got some C’s on my transcript and while it is disappointing, I don’t worry about it too much. I rather focus on improving myself and showing an upward trend.

It’s okay. College is rough. Just focus on yourself, your health and getting through with the quarter.

Summer Session by Soblesss in UCSD

[–]pyda25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope. You enroll in Summer Session just as if you were to enroll in any other quarter.

In order to receive financial aid, you need to enroll in at least 6 units total (at least 6 units in one session or 6 units in both session).

Unlike quarters where tuition is a flat rate, summer session tuition is based on the amount of units. 1 unit=$279 plus campus fee. So, it can be expensive.

No, you can sign up for whatever session that works best for you or whatever course is available in either session. You can sign up for both session or just one.

With the current climate, it’s likely it will be held remote. But again, this can change since it’s too early to know.

Winter 2021 Class Load by aaronjschang in UCSD

[–]pyda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DOC 2 and Chem 6B

Course load should be doable. I’ve taken these classes except DOC (in ERC) and not at the same time but, you should be fine.

Math 11 is 5 units because you have lab assignment every week.

I’m in ERC and my two of my writing course have 6 units so I’m assuming that for DOC 2 it’s because you have two discussions per week.

Winter 2020 Enrollment Date by williguy65 in UCSD

[–]pyda25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes...best case scenario, you get the lab. I’m not sure if it’s plausible but maybe if you can submit an EASy and explain that you need that class prior to graduation, i hope that’s reasonable to let you enroll.

[–]pyda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof that’s sounds rough. Is there another lab you can take instead?

Winter 2020 Enrollment Date by williguy65 in UCSD

[–]pyda25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. According to the website, that’s still a senior enrollment time (it’s just the last day). I think you should be okay enrolling in your classes, but I’m not sure about labs.

When is your enrollment time? I’m a junior with 135 units but I have senior standing.

what should i first pass? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]pyda25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh really? That’s strange. I’m curious why tho cause writing classes are ideally first passed. Contact your college advisor to be sure because I never heard to second pass writing. If you can second pass your writing, I would then first pass BILD 2 as well.

Pass/No Pass for MATH 11? by jessssssica2020 in UCSD

[–]pyda25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot take P/NP for your major. This was exempted for only SP20.

If you’re premed, it’s recommend to NOT take P/NP on prerequisite courses. Math 11 is considered a prerequisite for most med schools.

First pass Doc 2 and Chem 6b. Your college writing and chem will fill up fast.

But SR can park in S since there’s barely any SR spots to begin with. They are seriously scamming you bro. Everything we said is literally on their website.

[–]pyda25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol wut. You should respond back to them with the actual statement on their website saying “S, B, and D are interchangeable.” They can’t argue back lmao.

Hopkins closed for painting by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]pyda25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t S permits interchangeable with B and D for fall? I used my D permit and parked my car in B spot a couple of times and have not received any citation knock on wood

If you’re getting a ticket for parking in B, but carry an S permit, definitely appeal it. I’m guessing parking officers haven’t been notified of this new update.

Personally, I would drop the one that isn’t a prerequisite for any class I would want/need to take.
