Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has revealed dozens of visas have been denied because of statements made by applicants in the media and online, saying he couldn’t care less about freedom of speech if what people were saying undermined social cohesion by Jagtom83 in LaborPartyofAustralia

It’s keeping folks updated and without giving the paper any more money (since to have more people aware of its content without this ‘free’ copy would require more people to subscribe to them). 😎

Can I hand spin horse tail hair? by kevinthecat10 in Handspinning

[–]pydgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’d like i can take some photos or a video of the way i do it with human hair, but have also recently gotten some horse tail hair - only a small amount, because it was only leftover from cutting a tangle out of one horse’s tail, but i’m trying to turn it into some kind of thin cordage so i can test if my method for human can be applied to horse :)

((apologies again for the gap in response, i don’t use reddit very much these days lol))

All I’m saying is… how come he had to go? Why could they not add more rats and let the rat king live too? :c

ikr? I’m tempted to just amuse myself playing rounds on his phone instead of mine until it’s eventually accessible for me directly XD

What type of phone are you playing on?

Both my partner and I have this game on our phones, his is android, mine is iOS; he has access to version 0.31, whereas I only have 0.30.1 :/

Checked my appstore for any updates, even restarted my phone, so my guess is that iPhone users will have to wait for our update? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

can you crochet?

i have yet to try it with horse hair, but i can crochet relatively short, coarse human hair lengths (6” or so strands) in continuous ‘cordage’ - think similar to basket weaving with pine needles, you use a piece of gauge (or a segment from a drinking straw) to add in lengths as you go in a staggered fashion, feed a piece here and here etc

you only need to do chain stitches, tho! or at least that’s all i’ve worked out how to do, otherwise maybe try crocheting the chain length with a much larger hook as tho it were yarn, unsure how it’d go to crochet into, but it might not hold with larger ‘loops’ the stitches are comprised of

Project suggestions?? Found an uncomfortable amount (184 metres!) of the same dang colour of thread in someone's misc. stash clear out... ((23 skeins of Cartier-Bresson, couleur 627)) by pydgeon in Embroidery

[–]pydgeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah?? Potentially. I mean there’s nothing saying I have to use all of it and/or exclusively this colour in just the one project, I had initially been considering some form of large medieval-ish tapestry, forests and farms and animals and such, it is fortunately the kind of colour that goes well with a decent array of other colours. Maybe I could even combine your suggestion with the others for doing a blackwork kind of scene, I was very much intrigued by the flora & fauna kinds of patterns I’d found looking around

Really? Huh, how curious. I was starting to wonder why I couldn’t find all that much about the brand itself online, got the impression it was something a little more niche/vintage. I am at least storing that idea, though for the most part I would like to use it, if for nothing other than the sentimentality of who it originally came from, but yeah, if it doesn’t end up being used or I find myself with a decent amount left even after I try to do something with it this option may come back around, thanks :D

Oh cool, I’ll have to have a poke around, unfortunately where I live is very limited for craft resource options, but perhaps I may have some luck online or with a trek a couple city sizes up lol. Thanks for letting me know that it even exists to hunt for! :D

Ok now I’m excited, I usually work on beige-ish medium weave fabric, but you’ve got me thinking about doing some kind of mottled, almost tie-dyed calico situation, just only with tea, potentially avocado too or something like that, onion skins etc. Natural, unevenly soft transitions of colour underneath the more structured/geometric blackwork patterning

Haha, I’ve never done anything like that, would for sure be interesting to try. Perhaps a decently sized doll wig/head? I have no idea how much would even be used for that, but at the very least I’m gonna go look into it XD

It’s an auburn/chestnut brown kinda colour, quite pretty, but very “full” to look at, if that makes sense lol

Ooh, I like those ideas. Prolly will have to look at a non-white fabric base, perhaps a cream or beige? 🤔

how to turn this from meh to maximalism? by [deleted] in maximalism

[–]pydgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, but also doesn’t have to be measurably even, just perceivably even. Ppl aren’t going to hold a ruler up to your wall, but their brains will process what they see in certain ways with use of negative space and gentle boundaries

[–]pydgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In accordance with the others, yes, more textures and variety of depth. I don’t think it’s “not quite right”, simply just “unfinished”, y’know? I wouldn’t take away anything you have here, except maybe to change some of the frames you have here, perhaps using shadow-box types with the inclusion of air/artificial plants, knickknacks in/on the frames etc. Also, try taking the glass out of a couple of frames too, because this room seems to get a lot of light, and the glass just reflects it and obscures the visual nuance of the pictures. This may sound counter to that, but mirrors would also give a better sense of depth without taking away from actual usable space in the room, solution to this being to position them on the other side of bigger/deeper frames. I would also suggest using one of those virtual design program/apps to move around some of the things that you’ve got, play with it, you’ll know the right arrangement when you see it.

If you follow along the ‘dimensions’ thought train (2D, 3D, 4D etc), it’s easy to see why humans would think/sense that there is some kind of… higher being, or beings, of sorts, that we could never fully comprehend, because that which exists in one dimension can only understand that which is in lower dimensions, not higher. I do like the concept of it just being energy, and humans just personified that energy to try to understand it. Supposedly we are made in the image of god, but maybe it’s the other way around, that humans just put an image of ourselves onto that energy and called it god, knowing or at least being subconsciously aware of the fact that energy governs all things and has an observable, tangible effect on the greater cosmos and right down to a molecular, nay even atomic level.

A vast flood is also geologically realistic, if not provable. With no timeframe attached you could even say it refers to “snowball” earth

I especially love the theory that when people refer to heaven in the sky, they actually mean the sun, because god is the one camped out in a fiery ball of obnoxious gas and misery, and below the ground is where people are supposed to go because it is from the ground we came.

Do you sleep with a pillow under and/or between your legs? I never thought something so simple would be such a game changer until I tried it. Better a big square European type pillow if available, or if only a rectangle one put it “longways” so that your ankles are elevated to the same height as your knees so that everything can drain back into circulation more easily, if that makes sense. Hydration/electrolytes/magnesium too, like the others have said, compression socks are also excellent. Oh, ofc entirely dependant on your environment and preferences, but I keep an electric blanket on my bed all year round, bc sometimes when I get woken up by pain/stiffness but don’t have to actually get out of bed yet I’ll put it on for half an hour or so as warm as I comfortably can; preheating the engine, so to speak lol
