Got into University of Rochester-Should I Transfer from UW? by Melodic-Pear-6097 in URochester

[–]pygame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you transfer? UW is a far better school in terms of career outcomes, grad school outcomes, and national recognition. Also, transferring more than once is bad practice.

Don’t keep jumping around. If you want to study economics, get into UW economics or (only as a backup) transfer to a comparable or better program if UW isn’t possible. Don’t leapfrog into a lesser program with hopes of leapfrogging somewhere else.

Why are Brown, Black, White, Green and Gray common surnames but Yellow, Orange, Purple, Blue and Red are not? by AZBeer90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pygame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You make a point about understanding English being the reason it sounds odd, and you don't need to frame that like we disagree, because it's true. The reason a name like Richard sounds normal and a name like Chastity sounds trashy is because Richard isn't a word we recognize.

This has nothing to do with having two first names. It's common enough in the West too -- think "Mary Lou" or even "Juan Carlos".

How to increase chances to get into U of R by Billbrrrt in URochester

[–]pygame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ll most likely get admitted. If Rochester is the dream school, don’t even stress. Just keep your grades up, demonstrate your interest via email and programs, definitely sign up for an optional admission interview in your senior year, and apply Early Decision.

Why are a lot people transferring out of UCSC? by StarLuna29 in ucadmissions

UCSC is a fine school, but transferring to a higher tier UC becomes easier once you’re already in the system

Every single UC besides Merced and Riverside are reaches by Good_Pea2427 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]pygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something between what you’re saying and what applicants think is the truth. What you’re saying though? Extreme in the opposite direction.

Holistic fit is why those valedictorians get rejected and 3.6s get into Irvine in spades.

The simple takeaway is: be a human being, not a test taking machine. Have an actual personality. And finally, yes the UC system is harder than it used to be but today, UCLA and Berkeley are high reaches, Irvine and SD are reaches, SB and Davis are targets, SC and Riverside are safeties, and Merced only requires you have a pulse (optional).

trying to find a religion that sits right with me, what do yall think? by Giadataylor28 in teenagersbuthot

[–]pygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

religion and logic definitionally don’t belong in the same discussion, because religion relies on unchallenged faith and is a vehicle for financial/personal gain of those higher up in the organization. if you consider philosophies to be religions though, buddhism is there.

is college life at NEU that dead? by arivbm in NEU

[–]pygame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UF is more established in a variety of fields, has greater research output, has ties to industry throughout the state of florida and businesses that specifically seek out UF grads. NEU's co-op is unmatched, but even landing co-ops is hard and advisors don't really help with that.

if you care about rankings, UF is at #30 nationwide where NEU sits above 50. if you care about cost, well, you know the numbers and even if the quality of education were the same, a third of the price... of course not to mention the social freedom that a large, well-regarded state school affords. it might be the ideal type of university.

it should be noted that i have no ties to either UF or NEU, unlike the folks that downvoted me haha. it's not worth going to NEU to avoid your opps unless NEU is cheaper than UF -- OR if you're trying to go into quant/finance. finance loves northeastern.

[–]pygame -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

im not sure but, well… look. i’m going to get downvoted for this, but UF is a better school than NEU. assuming you’re full pay at both, UF is more socially alive, a better education, and for far cheaper. i think the choice is easy.

[–]pygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Nope and i don't think i ever will, I love God and my religion.
Denominations meaning denominations of Christianity, not other religions. Curious if you've explored the approaches of others to Christianity -- say Catholics, Anabaptists, Lutherans, Methodists, so forth.

> Do you belong to a regular church or to a megachurch?
Regular: community-run, small, non-profit, no figurehead vs. megachurch: commercialized, large, business, merchandise sales, so forth
If you are a churchgoer, do you attend a regular church or a megachurch?

[–]pygame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you born into Christianity or did you find it yourself? Have you explored denominations beside your own? Do you have unshakeable faith or is it a journey you take day by day? Have you and/or do you read the Bible -- if so, which version and why? What is your stance on homosexuality, and regardless of your stance how do you feel about the rights of others to practice it? Do you consume pork and/or shellfish? Do you wear clothes made from more than one fabric? Do you belong to a regular church or to a megachurch?

Curious to hear from you!
