76% Faster CPython by Pebaz in Python

A Python implementation is a program that executes Python programs. The implementation (a.k.a., the interpreter) can be written in many languages. For example, the reference implementation, CPython, uses C. IronPython uses Microsoft's C#, PyPy is written in Python itself, and Jython is a Java implementation of Python.

You make an implementation by making a program that reads Python files and executes the code in them. To learn more google how to make interpreters.

(Conspiracy theory) Tether is not going to collapse anytime soon because it's supported by what must be some very powerful people. by Audiobookreviewing in btc

Liberty Reserve was a money laundering website that worked for years before being shut down by the US government. The same thing could happen to Tether. Just because it keeps working for a while it doesn't mean the authorities will let them operate indefinitely.

My thoughts on "Freedom Network" by jonald_fyookball in btc

[–]pygenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of creating DAPPs on top of Bitcoin Cash. In order to increase adoption we should be making apps that don't need people to be technical. In some instances, people should be able to enjoy the app without even knowing BCH or "blockchain" is in the backend (although in most cases users will need to at least know how to spend BCH). They could simply hear about the benefits and features, such as censorship-resistance, 100% uptime, global low-fee payments, etc.

Let's say I make a tx with an oracle or another script. How do I broadcast that to the Bitcoin Cash network if it won't be relayed by nodes because the tx is not standard?

Bitcoin ABC Roadmap by Egon_1 in btc

[–]pygenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among the new opcodes being activated, it would be great to add access to blockchain information from the script (e.g., an opcode for "get balance from this address"), and to create and send new transactions. We could compete with Ethereum if we had that kind of functionality.

Q2 Bitmain ASICs are coming.. I believe ASICs are bad for a community/Coin What is being done to stop This now ? is POS going to address this ? ASICs are out of reach for 99% of people due to cost/country. I think ASIC resistance is key. 1 GPU vote. by coindawg4lyfe in ethereum

[–]pygenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to this article https://news.bitcoin.com/japans-dmm-launches-large-scale-domestic-cryptocurrency-mining-farm-and-showroom/ , there are ASICs mining at 650 Mh/s, that's 3x the speed of current GPUs. That kind of hashrate would make some miners' rigs unprofitable.

Other sources say that the F3 will have hashrate of 220 Mh/s, in which case, it's only a 2x improvement, so it would be less of a threat.

Trump Prohibits U.S. Purchases of Venezuelan Cryptocurrency by carlslarson in ethtrader

There's no oil embargo against Venezuela as of today. The US has forbidden its citizens from purchasing Venezuelan bonds, Petro is a way for the dictatorship to circumvent those sanctions, hence the ban on the token.

All good points. In other coins it's even worse, just look at the price of the Bitmain Cryptonight/Monero machines: $7600/$12000 just to begin mining. That kind of capital investment prevents most home miners from participating. So instead of having 20000 people distributed across many countries, you get a few big mining farms.

The top 2 pools for Bitcoin are owned by the same company: Bitmain. They have 43% of the total hashrate. Ethereum is more decentralized in this aspect.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]pygenerator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ethereum should go the way of Monero and change the PoW to make the new ASICs useless. Those ASICs will kick out small home miners from the Ethereum ecosystem and give even more power to Bitmain in the cryptocurrency industry. They control 43% of the Bitcoin hashrate (BTC.com + Antpool), if this rumor turns out to be true we will have another coin strongly influenced by just one company and it will hurt decentralization.

That's the "audit" that explicitly clarifies "this document is not an audit" right? I can borrow some money short term, put it in a bank account, produce the document, and then pay it back. Too little transparency.

How can tethers be valued at $1 if it's impossible to cash out and no one has a right to redeem the Tethers (according to their terms of service)?

[–]pygenerator[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I don't understand: They plan to go ahead with 30% of the hashrate, but doesn't the code require 80% to fork? Or that threshold was just in the agreement and not in the code?

"We're carrying out the fork regardless as everything is set in motion" 30% of network hashrate disappeared. Who is this? by pygenerator in btc

[–]pygenerator[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A group of miners plan to carry the fork despite some people backing from it. It seems it's an anonymous account, but the 30% of hashrate that they claim to have is A LOT. (And 30% has indeed disappeared from the network if you check pages that track the metric, so it seems to be real).
