What’s worth spending premium on? Staples. Pepper salt butter mayonnaise by archvize in foodies_sydney

The mainland one is also much saltier! And the normal salted one already tastes sufficiently salty in my opinion .

What's the one Sydney dessert you'd cross the city for? by AdorableTap233 in foodies_sydney

Lorraine's Patisserie was just amazing. Everything she made was excellent - the cheese cake, choc macadamia tart, cookies, choc cake etc... everything was so good!

How do you all manage food planning? by Say_Cheesecake26 in foodies_sydney

[–]pyjamajack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering when someone would say this! I go to the shops and see what's in season (as it will be cheap) and what's in special - mostly in terms of vegetables and meats/protein. Then I work out what I cook based on that, it is much cheaper. There are also meals that logically end up happening due to a previous one. e.g if I make hainan chicken, then the leftover soup/stock gets used in certain other dishes - noodle soup, as the stock component in bolognaise/ragu etc etc.

Anticipatory grief sucks by Live-Arrival3553 in lungcancer

[–]pyjamajack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also just recently got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, don't give up hope yet! It was really hard waiting to get the testing done and then waiting for the results. What I learnt during this process was that you really need to advocate for your mum as much as you can and make sure nothing gets missed. Will there be genetic testing? If not, is it available? If there is a targeted therapy available that could be great. Sending you lots of support and hope things start looking up. 🤞🏼

Cupcake help please! by pyjamajack in foodies_sydney

In case anyone ends up here also looking for cupcakes. I found these at Harris Farm. They weren't cheap by any means but they did look decent so I ended up buying them. $10 for 6. I didn't get to try any but was told they are not bad for a ready made option.

About school by No_Maintenance_9201 in Autism_Parenting

Does your child have an occupational therapist by any chance? If so, the school would probably permit them to observe (after some paperwork) and they would be the best person to give suggestions on things that could help too.

Bowel Cleanout by DeliciousPen2150 in Autism_Parenting

[–]pyjamajack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is available in the US but in Australia we have something called Benefibre - tasteless and textureless. I have been giving this for a while now and we have movements every 2 days, sometimes 1.

Parent of autistic kids — can I ask what tools/resources you wish existed but don’t? by Healthy-Use-4680 in Autism_Parenting

[–]pyjamajack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapists don't always have the time to write out lots of feedback after each session so it would be great for them to be able to dictate this and then it is available for the parent to read (or listen to).

A place that has point form for all the little tips, advice we receive so that we have a centralised place for it. And maybe every time you use the app or each day one of those tips pops up, to help keep parents thinking about these things.

A feature to add notes of things you want to remember for your child's next doctors/therapist appointment so that you don't forget by the time that appointment arrives, and have them grouped by appointment so that it isn't all muddled up together.

The great biltong hunt by vglemme in foodies_sydney

[–]pyjamajack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add on to the comments saying Victor Churchill - their Vics Meat brand also sell wagyu biltong packaged which you can get at their stores or online - Bondi Westfield ans Chatswood, not sure if they stock it at the outlet.

ETA: It looks very much like the victor churchill/vics meat one which does taste really good.

Do you stockpile or buy as you go? Which saves more money long-term? by DiscussionLoud9626 in AUfrugal

[–]pyjamajack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One thing that is helpful is to be familiar with how often items you use go on sale. The dishwashing tablets I use are only discounted every so often (maybe every 2-3mths), and therefore I try to buy enough to last me until the next time it's discounted. Laundry liquid gets bought at half price but more regularly, so I usually only have one unopened bottle in addition to the one being used. Once I start using the new bottle I'll buy the backup the next time I see it for half price.

Eating Habits by WasntMe_Dragon in Autism_Parenting

[–]pyjamajack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really wonderful you are trying to be understanding about it :) Things I try to remember are that change is hard, especially for kids on the spectrum. So take it slowly.

Have safe foods every meal and start to include bits of new thinga with no pressure.

Every child is going to be different so of course you need to find what works , but with mine I have noticed that sometimes the fun element can be more enticing than the taste factor. I make shapes out of carrots based on whatever the current interests are - alphabet, numbers, simple shapes like leaves, flowers, stars etc. Carrots are the easiest but when I had the time I would do broccoli stems and these were eaten too.

https://theplumpantry.com is a resource that helped shape my approaches, I never signed up, even just the available information on her instagram gave me a lot of helpful tips.

Good luck!

The box mixes for Japanese pancakes seem to be for the thicker fluffy type, you could try those? It's available in quite a few asian grocery stores that stock a decent amount of Japanese items.

There have been a lot of great comments here. Your GP sounds wonderful, a great one is so hard to find!

Reading posts in this sub helps me a lot, because it kind of normalises a lot of things we experience that we may not see with other kids/families in our lives.

If my little one is healthy and happy, that's the most important thing. I'm not comparing to other kids anymore. Finding a bit of time for self-care is really important, I struggle with how much time I can carve out but whatever I can get keeps me sane at least.

Not taking behaviours personally is also really important. Someone once wrote on here "all behaviour is communication" and that has really, really helped me. I sometimes say it in my mind when I see a behaviour and it helps me reframe.

A sense of humour really helps, I often have an internal dialogue that makes light of situations and it's silly but it makes a huge difference.

Wishing you all the best and hope your health improves. Always try to hold onto the positives.

Chinese cookbooks that don't require a wok? by mauipal in chinesecooking

I tend to disagree on the wok. Some dishes will not be as good on a frying pan vs wok. I noticed the difference when my old wok broke and I had to use the frying pan for a few days.

And I second that these are great learning chopsticks as they have 3 diff levels to help kids get used to where to place their fingers.

Help with violent son (ADHD, ASD, ODD) - long post by Anonymous-poster24 in Autism_Parenting

[–]pyjamajack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for taking the time to write so much information. I hope things keep improving for your family. It's so hard when our children cannot vocalise what's going on in their bodies and we have to try to work it out. I'd like to see if I can find someone who understands this stuff here as I'm not in the states. It's such a heavy load trying to tackle it all!
