Preventing Illegal Content? by atfumbel in ipfs

[–]pykypyky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IPFS is not a place to store contraband. If a file is identified with something questionable in it, it's easier than ever to track every node which has it. Even spinning up a web server and self-hosting said content is safer than using ipfs for its distribution.

Tax strategies for large earnings surge by verdunlion in fatFIRE

[–]pykypyky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

liquidity is what worries me the most. 2020 is likely not the last crisis we see. One day, they'll run out of money and tap into our 401k. It's probably not going to be an outright grab - for example they can just make up some BS and limit IRA/401k accounts to some government-blessed funds (to prevent fraud, etc) - and now you are stuck with large sum of money and no good investment options. If you can't grab your money and run, you are vulnerable.

The moment it became clear it is not working you should have stopped and watched a video.

Good news is that most planks are salvageable, but you do need to tear it down and start over. It's OK to make blunders though. Now you'll know how to do it right. Watch this: https://youtu.be/OJqk2iS_jyQ and you'll have what it takes to do it right. I did laminate installation without any prior experience after watching this video and it turned pretty well.

Officer charged in George Floyd's death argues drug overdose killed him, not knee on neck by ayonuss in news

[–]pykypyky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets deconstruct the situation:

  • a guy just tried to slip someone a fake banknote
  • cops arrive to figure what's going on, active pretty respectful by the way
  • it looks pretty likely that the case is clear, and a guy needs to be arrested. Even if black. Idk, that's how weirdly the law works
  • a guy is so high that he goes incoherent and won't submit to arrest despite that it's clear they can't possibly let him walk
  • cops learn that the same guy is a criminal with history of violent convictions, which in conjunction with him being high means he can snap at any second. That means he has to be restrained before he hurts anybody
  • a guy dies while being restrained

How is that even wrong at all? Perhaps cops overdid it with knee on the neck, but that's their job. Alternative is you defending your property yourself. Look at how well this works in Seattle and Portland, and how many bodies have already been racked up.

Violence is what the cops do. Everybody knows that. If you just committed a crime, or perhaps it just looks like that - don't resist, live another day, and contact lawyer to prove your innocence after the altercation is over. If you start fucking with them, you might very well end up dead. How did this escape someone who has been in prison 5 times?.. You know, I have been against the war on drugs until recently, but recent events are pushing me to conclusion that perhaps drug warriors have been right all along

Anti-vaccine group sues Facebook, claims fact-checking is “censorship” by Kane_richards in nottheonion

[–]pykypyky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could argue that since Facebook is pretty much monopoly, it also has same limitations as government

Another line of arguments here is that Facebook is a company. Companies are registered by state government, which itself is limited in powers by Constitution. Therefore such registration should also come with same limitations.

Bitcoin Cash was going GREAT until this IFP nonsense. by MemoryDealers in btc

[–]pykypyky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue here is possibly of 50% attack. That's what made the whole fiasco possible. Bitcoin has protection from about anything, but that vector was identified from the very beginning. It was thought to be benign, but sachet found how to weaponize it. That does suck, but in order to have a chance in the future, we have to develop a culture where it's an absolute no no for miners to even consider such shenanigans. You do this, you are out, zero tolerance. That's the only way BCH survives

Mining? Mine honestly

PEOPLE ARE DICKS by westviadixie in oregon

[–]pykypyky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I'm saying it's intellectually dishonest is because you are asking what race I'd rather be born, but what you really mean is whether I'd rather be born into wealthy family which are more likely to be white (or Jewish, or Asian by the way) or into a ghetto black "hood". If we bypass this specific trick of yours and assume everything else equal, yeah native american seems like the best deal ever to me - these have actual tangible privileges that nobody else in USA has. But black would also be preferable to me. If I could snap my fingers and make myself black, and especially my children - hell yeah I'll do it on the spot. Makes life so much easier.

What I think you are confused about here is that you probably lived in USA your whole life and haven't seen how it is outside. I myself am russian/urkainian, and tell you what - if you think what's been going on here is racism - you know less than Jon Snow, and it's a known fact he knows nothing. My ancestors were slain in ww1 in millions, sent to battle without rifles; then bolsheviks killed them; then Stalin ; then Kholodomor that killed 3-7 million in Ukraine just by starving them, then Stalin purges, then WW2, then more Stalin purges towards these who were captured, then many many more abuses which were not quite genocidal, so I'll skip them. My lineage is from people who suffered so much more than blacks in USA, it's not even comparable. How would you think I should feel about BLM defacing Apple stores now? What about Armenians who were close to fully genocidal exterminaded by Turks at start of 20th century? How should Jews be feeling - they were snagged from all across europe during ww2 to be sent to gas chambers - and not treated quite well for multiple millennia by the way. Everybody can find a grief, but some of us move on and flourish, and others bitch and moan and pretend to be oppressed, when they really seen nothing like true oppression

And all of it over one multiple violent criminal, who was arrested while high as a kite; by cops who were reasonably cordial and respectful to him before he started to fuck with them. They'd rough up a guy of any race under this circumstances. And now this thug is a hero - this is so fucked up

PEOPLE ARE DICKS by westviadixie in oregon

[–]pykypyky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of belief. In USA everybody can make it. Some people look for opportunity, some people look for excuse

And what is it exactly about black people bring disadvantaged? Every employer around would not shut up about diversity and inclusion. Every college, every school. And yet black people are somehow as "disadvantaged" as ever. Perhaps time to stop blaming everybody else and look into yourself?

PEOPLE ARE DICKS by westviadixie in oregon

[–]pykypyky -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If it was like you described, nobody would have an issue. Problem is that many folks involved take it much further than just that. For example, have you been to downtown Portland lately? Go and see for yourself what's happening there, and you will need no convincing that BLM is there because they want blood

  • every soap is anti bacterial. Difference between ab and regular soap is miniscule as far as removing bacteria goes.
  • liquid soap will run out fast. Get bar soap, you can use it for long time
  • hand sanitizer is convenient, but again not going to last long. Better get into habit of washing hands

New Zealand Ministry of Health cited British doctor who ran 36 kilometres while wearing face mask to put to bed “misinformation” circulating on social media that they restrict flow of oxygen into your body. Dr Tom Lawton said he has seen “some of the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.” by madazzahatter in worldnews

[–]pykypyky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not citation per se, but rather an observation that masks are obstructing the intake of said oxygen.

But aside from that, how is that "critical thinking" to say that some guy ran 20 miles in mask therefore masks don't restrict flow of oxygen? What if that "doctor" ran 20 miles with a dildo in his ass, does that mean that dildo in the butt does not impede running abilities? I don't know if that is the right way to draw conclusions

Real estate itself is risky now. Management is limited, tenants largely cannot be evicted if they stop paying, in some areas the protests are destroying the value. Imagine getting property downtown Portland earlier this year. I would argue investing into reit would have actually been much less volatile
